We were nervous about the water being cold since we went in the beginning of October but the wetsuit keeps you very warm (granted, it was quite sunny when we went). We forgot to grab our complimentary sticker the lesson and dropped by its location in Tofino the day after. It's a nice place and has a great collection of stickers to pick from. I liked the small and intimate session. Our instructor taught us the basics for surfing and was super helpful when we were in the water. ​​​​​​​​​​I would definitely sign up for lessons again! They provide wet suits, shoes, and surf boards. You can also lock up your items in their truck. Don't bring food with you if you are leaving it on the beach. The birds will peck at your bags looking for food!

The provide the board and the wetsuits, which is awesome since we're from Alberta and can't lug boards all the way here. It was a simple and easy process. They take you to Cox Beach and work with you for 3 hours. I recommend the private group instead of the big one. We got a lot more attention and direction! Even stood a few times!

I ended up renting a beginner board from the shop for the next three days, calling every afternoon to ask if I could extend my rental of the board and wetsuit "just one more day." I had recently turned 50 and the encouragement I received from owner who was a woman of a similar "vintage" was gold. When I finally brought my board back after 4 days I felt like I had been adopted into the surfing tribe...a tribe with a rare woman surf shop owner generously opening the door. I feared not being able to fit into a wetsuit and the embarrassment of it all. The store manager reassured me that it was a non-issue, and was very discreet. I think i got a men's size. Oh well! The instructors, Heath and Shannon, were the bestest sweetest boys. Super laid back, as you'd expect. I will be back! My only complaint is that i'd like more time in the water, and a bit of time at the end to snap some pics of our tired selves with surfboards and silly grins.

We are staying at Raph's coach house (little blue cabin on airbnb which is am awesome place to stay). We were picked up in a really cool old school military troop carrier and taken to South chesterman Beach which was a great Beach to learn on for our first time. I highly recommend learning with these guys. They are great!
