My 17-year-old dog had been a patient at Brunswick Animal Hospital for most of her life. Over the years, I entrusted them with her care and spent a significant amount of money there without hesitation, believing we had a relationship built on trust and continuity. When she began actively dying and was clearly in distress, I called expecting urgency, guidance, and compassion. Instead, I was told they could not fit her in. I was informed I could come as a walk-in but would likely sit in the waiting room for hours. I was then referred to an emergency veterinary clinic nearly an hour away, essentially told to take my suffering senior dog elsewhere. The interaction felt cold and dismissive, completely lacking the compassion you would expect in such a devastating moment. This is the same practice where I have previously waited well beyond scheduled appointment times because emergencies and euthanasias were prioritized. I accepted that without complaint because that is what hospitals do, they respond to urgent need. What is heartbreaking is that when my own loyal, long-term patient required that same urgency at the end of her life, there was no accommodation, no sense of responsibility, and no empathy. Now that he has sold his business, the new people don't take walk ins or emergencies. Dr Rabon, working by himself, could always take walk ins and emergencies. These new vets want you to take your emergency to wilmington, even during the day. They have several vets working and just can't seem to get their shit together.i love Dr Rabon, he is still there a few days a week. Adopted a dog and found out she had heart worms. Dr ordered prednisone and Heartguard . We followed the directions given on Prednisone and finished, went back for more labs and told to continue Prednisone, I asked for another script as we were out, the office told us we should have enough for a month. The script given was a taper for one week. Needless to say, the labs then showed liver damage. We then had to treat that before even considering Heartworm treatment. It took about 3 months to be considered for treatment. By this time, we decided that they are just money hungry and idiots. Considering the cost and risk, trying to keep a happy energetic dog pinned up in a kettle, We decided to not seek treatment. She's having a great life with us with no issues at this time. read more

My dog is in heart failure and his health is getting critical. My husband and I called them and were assured they would talk to the vet and call us back with recommendations. Numerous calls, still no call back. All they seem to care about is money and passing out appointments far in the future for immediate concerns. I've never heard of a dying dog needing medication and have to wait for 5-7 days for it to come in the mail. No meds on site. My dog is at the mercy of their pharmacy partner and the postal system. After booking an appointment 17 days from the appointment date they call and say sorry the Doctor that see you pet is not available that date and we need to rebook you another month out from your original date. I do not recommend this practice. They push unnecessary testing, and unnecessary drugs, and often contradict themselves. 3 years ago I was advised that my dogs had heart murmurs and they were pushing a $300 ultrasound for each dog prior to doing the $700 dental work for a broken tooth.. I skipped the testing, was warned the tooth would abscess, three years later the tooth is fine and the vets now say the heart murmur is gone. They insisted on glucose testing even though they said the insulin I gave her after leaving out at night was bad (and to throw it away), so I said can't we skip the bloodwork if the insulin was bad? What's the point? They did it anyway and I came back to a $250 bill and a dog so stressed out her skin color had changed. Test was good, which meant I threw that insulin($$) away for nothing. Boxes of insulin needles purchased have come with ten missing twice. differing advice was given like ear drops fill canal and on the box they wrote a drop, To pay so much money at every appointment I expect to leave the office with clear instructions and a plan of action to help my dogs feel their best. I've since gotten a second opinion and am much happier, and feel more valued as a client at the new office. Unless you've got a money tree in your backyard.. I'd really think twice about bringing your pets here. The way they act trying to get you to use more stuff from them. You would think they actually got a commission the last time I went they tried to sell me all different things on top of the 400 I was already spending one of which was the heartworm that I do the yearly injection From them. I saw recommendations for this vet on Nextdoor, so we made our first visit when our dog needed help for itching. The vet we saw was retired, I think he said, but regardless he seemed like he was only partly there with us. He was barely looking at our dog? In fact we asked him to look at his ears again please because I detected an odor. He literally flapped his ear back, leaned over and gave a glance and announced that it was fine? He still has an odor that's off so we'll have to bring him elsewhere. It doesn't get any better I'm afraid. He prescribed pills for his itching and they were awfully expensive. $87.00 for 14 pills to get us by until I could get through Chewy. Long story short, two aggressive staff which included an assistant manager, gave me an arms folded across chest resistance to calling Chewy with my dogs prescribed meds saying it's a new policy they will not do it. Of course, mail being slow during the holidays, two weeks later and Chewy still hasn't received it. Now we are forced for our dogs well being to go back to these same combative women and pay yet another $87.00 for two more weeks. Btw, it's half this price for 30 day supply at Chewy. read more

We lost our 13 and a half year old Yorkie last Thursday. It was a tough decision for our entire family as Drake has been a part of our family since he was 6 weeks old. He's been sick for the last few months and we've been at the animal hospital trying to help him but as he got older it was just too much for him. Our decision was made while we were there with Dr. Thompson. My wife and I decided it was time, we were met with the most caring staff and doctor that I have ever encountered during the situations. Sadly I have had to do this once before, and that experience was also heartbreaking. This is never easy and I'm not saying it was easy it was awful but between the time Drake was put down, but first put to sleep and he was resting comfortably to the time we received his ashes a day and a half later we were mad with the kindest and most caring people who no doubt understands what we went through. I would like to thank everyone at Brunswick animal hospital and I certainly would like to recommend them to any family that has a pet that they love as family. They said they would not see him because they would not have enough time because they were only there till 12. They charged 55.00 for a 5-way shot you can order from Jeffers for 8.99, do I have to pay for the whole case you are buying?? Then said her ears were very dirty and tried to sell my daughter some 30.00 ear cleaner, then said that the puppy had pink eye and sold her medicine for that. Not to mention that they don't have the liquid puppy wormer that I have used for over 50 years, now they want to sell you one pill for worms that is 28.50 for the pill. I have never had these issues when Dr. Rabon was there, he always cared about the animals first and money second. I sent my daughter with 90.00 so she called me and I told them I would pay the balance the next day when I got paid and they would not let her take the medicine home even though I told them I would pay them the next day. These new owners DO NOT care about the health or welfare of the animals, they only care about how much money they can make. 210.00 for a first puppy visit is outrageous. I have taken my pets to Brunswick Animal Hospital ever since I moved back home 7 years ago. I had a miniature schnauzer and she was ver sick. Took her everyday for fluids. They did all kinds of tests and said it was kidney failure and did nothing else to help her. I had to have her put to sleep as she had not eaten in over a week. She had lost a lot of weight and they never asked before why this had happened. Do you not look for this type of thing during the yearly exam? Well I got to the point that I could go there again with my other animals. Today I call because my dog is in agony because her anal gland needs to be cleaned. I am told it will be two weeks to wait for an appointment. She is dragging on floor and moaning and can't be still. I told them this was not acceptable. How long does it take to do this and a Dr is not even required. She was very rude, saying to take her to another vet or emergency clinic and hung up on me. I called another vet and they would not see them unless they had the records to verify vaccines. I called back and got the same person which is still rude and could care less about human decency let alone the welfare of an animal. I told her to have Dr Rabon call me. She didn't want my name or number. I also told her to send all records for my two pets to a specific hospital. She said we sure will and said have a good day!! Being new to the area, we were a bit nervous about bringing our miniature dachshund Samson in to see someone new., especially for an emergency. We were also very glad to find a doctor that took walk-ins on Friday afternoon. Dr Emily Reed's experience and genuine compassion for her patients made us feel comfortable right away. My cat was attacked by a wild Tomcat while we were vacationing at our residence here. I didn't think she was hurt, no visible signs, however after a couple of days she started hiding under the couch. I called my home vet and he recommended Dr. Rabon, as he went to vet school with him. Turned out she had a huge abscess and infection on her back hindquarter. Dr. Rabon drained it, cleaned it out, gave her a 2 week antibiotic shot and sent me home with some sulfa powder for her open wound. I do wildlife rehab, and he even examined a small cottontail I was nursing back to health. This is my go to vet when I am down here. BTW, Dr. Rabon was the first vet in NC to do a kidney transplant on a cat! read more
