If I could give zero stars I would, I have been to this school for three years and it was absolutely miserable. Prepare yourselves for a very unorganized list of my grievances. First of all, the schools staff does NOTHING if you report being physically, verbally, or sexually harassed or assaulted. I had reported all three and the biggest result I saw was the kids getting told to "stop because it is not nice", you heard it here folks, threatening to rape someone isn't nice. The staff at this school are all for the most part racist, homophobic, or in general very judgmental and make assumptions before even interacting with you. The staff also fully ignore your 504 or IEP accommodations, or despite being in a roll where they were supposed to be made aware of the said accommodations are not told. I have had a teacher tell my class(along the lines of) "You all don't put in effort, none of you will be able to get into college like this", which I find pretty cruel to say to a bunch of kids??? I've had a staff member make me clean up broken glass on the ground that I wasn't involved in breaking, I had happened to be in the room(across from the class when it broke) and was left in during motor break trying to clean it up with no supplies, so of course I got cut, and then I got in trouble for not going out to motor break when I was told to clean up glass. My last problem with the staff is, the social worker, Ms. Wood, is AWFUL(respectfully), she tries to blame your parents and won't do what she says she will do, she caused more harm to me then any good. Moving away from the staff, the school itself is in awful condition, we have little to no AC, the sinks and toilets regularly just stop working and will be left inoperable for months on end, not to mention the bathrooms are totally unmonitored, I can't count the amount of times fights have broken out or things have been purposely broken and the staff are unaware, which to me seems like a major safety risk but what do I know. Some classrooms in this school are sinking into the ground, one of which drops a foot suddenly(It is not built to do that for the record). I can count on both hands the amount of times I've heard of rats or mice running into classrooms, which is a health hazard for the record. Finally for the school itself, false fire alarms regularly go off, I have been subjected to the school evacuating around 15 times in the last three years. Moving away from this, the student body of this school are all very rude and caused my mental health to plumet multiple times, and the school is VERY aware and doesn't care, picking to project the popular kids and allowing unpopular or "weird" kids to be harassed daily. Also the school hardly takes the vaping problem seriously, I see kids walking around openly carrying vapes which I find absurd. Overall this school is horrible, do NOT send your child here if you want them to have a good school experience and mental health. I beg of you to homeschool your kids, send them to a different district, anything besides this absolute shitshow of a school. I cannot think of any positives to give this school. The only teacher I liked is Mr. Ellis, give him a raise or something he's chill and doesn't judge you. Ps. Not a really good school. There's too many scrict rules and plus the review got token down from the school so yea now I'm remaking this because I hope ur child doesn't go here even if u are interviewing. Don't work here, anything, etc. If ur kid has an interview here I would wait until he or she is in 9th grade and then have them go to the high school here in brunswick. I'm going to be really honest, this school sucks. I'm scared to walk through the halls, with some weird older students running through them and saying some... not very good things, My favorite thing about this school is being in choir, which takes place in the abandoned elementary school which looks like it just came from a horror movie, it's dark, and just very eerie. Legit saw a rat in the hallway. Lots of the staff don't know what they are doing, which is made very apparent by my friends who have shared experiences with guidance counselors where they sit there, say nothing, and then report everything you say to your parents or other staff. The one time I have visited the councilor in my years here, the next day the teachers made it very clear that our "confidential, safe space" was just another way for teachers to gossip about us. The bullying and harassment that takes place around me is genuinely scary. the amount of my friends that tripped on the way into different rooms in sixth grade because of how sunken in the floor was, is INSANE. the school is literally sinking into the ground. We are literally slipping into hell- I have never felt more uncomfortable in school than I do here, my mental health has taken a deep drop, waking up so early and having an intense amount of homework and practically no release from it. My sleep schedule has gone down the drain. It gets worse when we have stupid stuff like "mental health week" If you do care about our mental health it shouldn't just be one week, why do we only care for five days?! And the announcements- "Make sure to get lots of sleep! Turn off those electronics" as if the only reason I can't fall asleep is my phone! If you cared about my mental health maybe you should re-arrange the schools schedule, and don't allow your teachers to give us as much homework as they do, so we don't have to stay up to 11 doing homework, and we don't have to wake up at 5 in the morning! There are countless things that need to be improved, but will anything be improved? NO! They will continue to pour all of the money into the elementary schools, they will not pay attention to people's mental health issues and no matter how many reviews are written they will continue doing nothing! The school is terrible, the power goes out frequently and a gas leak a couple months ago. The principal doesn't follow protocol to avoid a favorite student from getting in trouble from what he did. The school also has a mold and rat problem. Sometimes you can see a rat scurrying across the classroom. Some cafeteria staff like Barbara are rude and yells a lot. There were some cafeteria staff who were very nice and friendly like Mrs. Sarah and Mrs. Julie.The sports teams suck, but the physical education teachers are nice. Most staff are rude but some are nice and made my time at this terrible school slightly better like Mr. Weafer and Mrs. Matson. I do not recommend this terrible school and you should go to a different school. read more

This school is terrible and I do not recommend sending your children to this school. The school department dumps thousands of dollars on the elementary schools and putting in gardens and gazebos meanwhile the junior High is severely outdated and needs updated, or even better build a new school. The building does not have enough room for every class room and some classes are in the old run down elementary school, which is just as bad as the junior high And shut down for many reasons. The school claims it has a "no bullying policy" yet when a student threatened me Mrs. Catanese, the principal protected the student because they were friends with the family And said CPS "looked and didn't find anything wrong" Major issues like stated above are rarely taken care and little things seem like a big issue to staff. Power outages, gas leaks, mold problems, mice and squirrels are all usual things that happen at BJHS, along with some ceiling tiles falling down or not on the ceiling at all. Food and staff are questionable and staff are not fair and don't typically follow the handbook that is enforced at BJHS. Some of the staff are kind and very reasonable but most are crazy and their grading is completely unfair. Please consider another school, as the Brunswick Junior High School should be a last resort for all. read more

This is a hellhole, would rate 0 if possible. the only good thing is the music department, which is underfunded and has had mice fall on people while singing. This place actually sucks. I've been here a while and 80% of the teachers are really bad. Some are pretty chill but certain ones are quite concerning... One of the teachers is in love with Elon Musk. Yeah. Also, it's a weeeeee bit sinking to the ground! Just noting that! There have been multiple gas leaks in my three years here, which raises safety concerns. People also vape in the bathrooms and when you walk in you're hit with a cloud of sickly sweet vape smells which is nasty. Also some of the buses smell like drugs in the back. We don't even have a generator either, and the power has gone out at least once or twice per year. The school district is heavily funding elementary schools where the kids don't even care about having new things all the time. Us middle school students are currently sinking into the ground while the younger kids (who won't even remember any of their new equipment) are being built up to only later plummet to the depths of Brunswick Junior High. The wildly run-down place is also quite gross. There was once a leak in the ceiling above the salad bar and nobody noticed for several hours. Ew. I'm glad to be leaving in like a month. read more

I hate this school so much. The staff is awful except for a handful of great teachers who actually care about the students. The vaping and drug problems are insane, the bathrooms and locker rooms smell terrible. The staff cant even manage the smallest of problems and all the bullying that happens here. The school pours thousands of dollars into HBS and KFS, adding things like greenhouses and gardens while BJHS sinks into the ground. Earlier this year the doors into the bathrooms were removed because of the chaos that happens in there. When the staff realized that they could possibly get in trouble for doing that, they felt cute and added plastic shower curtains over the entrances. I am in choir and this year a rat fell out of the ceiling in the middle of class. I think this also happened in the band room during a before school ensemble. We have been evacuated a total of five times throughout my 3 years here, (I am an 8th grader in 2025) and that is just gas leaks alone. The music and sports programs are a few gems that I enjoyed while I was here, but it doesn't nearly make up for all of the other crazy stuff that has happened. The ceiling tiles in the bathrooms are all falling down, and we didn't have soap or paper towels for a while during Trimester 2 this year. Dumb bullshit is prioritized over real problems like bullying and harassment which are pretty much never handled properly. I hate this school and am indescribably excited to move up to the high school next school year. The three worst years of my life were the years I spent here, only made better by my great friends. If you are a family moving to Brunswick and looking for a place to educate your kids, please just homeschool them until they can go to the high school. It isn't worth it to send them here. read more

District has been pouring thousands of dollars into elementary schools, meanwhile half of our classrooms are shut down. floor sinking into the ground, needs to be rebuilt. next to old elementary school which was shut down for many reasons. now the middle school has class in the shit down building due to everything listed above. going into my third year, genuinely disgusted. needs to be rebuilt and our district needs to stop putting stupid things like gardens into the elementary schools and save up for a new middle school. read more

This school sucks. They call this a no bullying place but this school is filled with drama. The staff absolutely suck. Schuft does absolutely nothing and neither does guidance, Schuft will call you into his office to talk about what's been happening and as you talk it out HE DOES NOTHING?! All he does is give them a warning about it or give them an ISS or Lunch Detention, that doesn't help!! And the guidance people don't freaking listen at all. They say "yeah" after everything you say (WHICH DOES NOT HELP.) and they say it's only between ourselves and them, THEY SHARE IT WITH OTHER TEACHERS AND MAYBE EVEN THE WHOLE DANG TEAM. They don't help at all. And when I'm speaking with them, it's like they don't even care. It's like they're listening to get this over with. These staff don't do their fucking job and this place is fucking hell. This school is pretty fucking racist too. They only say something when people are racists towards black students. What about Hispanics and other races?? They don't do shit!! In the end Mr. Schuft takes the people who is bullying side. And I find that pretty fucking ridiculous. They need to find a new way to work their shit and I am sick of this. People will drag you into their shit and drama and have you get in trouble too, but for what? You could be just a bystander or innocent and still get a fucking call home and if they're feeling extra cute an email too. They call shit on and off for the most pettiest reasons and act somewhat nice when you and the assistant principal or just the principal are talking one on one and then talk crap about you with other teachers? If these people can't manage to do their job properly they might as well reconsider about their job, they should quit at this rate if they can't handle all the bullshit and be petty with their own fucking actions. I went there for a solid 3 terrible years, and speaking from my experience and plenty others I don't recommend. Going to this place seriously can diagnose you with mental problems, I am not fucking joking. And the grading system also sucks. They gave me a pile of homework just in a range of 8 periods, and I got so fucking stressed. Ms. Beede's class is top tier, her grading system is amazing while other classes make me want to cry. The schoolhouse is a jewel from American institutional design circa late 1970s / early 1980s....hopefully the new school will keep some of the old design fundamentals when designing a friendly space to learn. We do not need pretty we need functional and sustainable with this campus! Great teachers, Awesome location and fond memories of Middle School! This is MY school! It is set up just like all schools should be setup. It could use some updating but all in all it is a great schoolhouse with Amazing opportunities for students of all levels. But we could use an auditorium.....the music/band/theater students need help sounding as good as they are. So maybe a little splurge for the sake of acoustics and comfort could be arranged I Love that this place has always had a Breakfast Club feel to it. ;-) The interior decor will bring you back! I have fond memories of the education I received at BJHS! I am also excited that my children will have a similar experience, not much has changed here since the olden days! Ha Go Huskies! read more
