Many of the rooms are still dated in exactly the same way, although to be fair many have been renovated in a very nice, modern minimalist theme. Covid has reduced many of the niceties of the fancy hotel variety (Valet parking, I'm looking at you!) there's a lot of assorted bars and restaurants inside, even a little gift shop. Service is okay; not stellar. Free wifi that's a reasonable speed to help bang out your Yelp reviews is helpful. There are some good deals to be had while Covid restrictions are still technically in place- if you can grab a bargain price, why not? Just try and get a renovated room!

There is a large car park so ample parking is available for hotel guest and visitors. Besides the casino there are several restaurants onsite for guests from more casual establishments to more sit down and formal. Of note while we were there, there is a bit of construction going on not quite sure what they are doing, it appears to be renovations. While there we dined at the Chinese restaurant Kwan Ho, the food and service were tremendous not to mention they sat us within view of the harbor so that was a nice plus for us as we were visiting from the US. One issue with the restaurant was that it was a pretty warm day I think the news said they broke a very old record in Hobart, and it felt as though the air conditioner didn't work. I was hot and uncomfortable during our entire meal. I felt worse for the poor workers in the restaurant since they are decked out in black uniforms. I'd definitely recommend eating at the Chinese restaurant if you're visiting. Its a bit pricey but was well worth it.

Hotel Bruny was unexpectedly small, unexpectedly charming, and unexpectedly delicious! It may well be the best meal we had on our trip. We made a reservation in typical me fashion and rushed from the rookery lookout to meet it but it was utterly unnecessary. We were the only ones there on a weekday lunch for an half hour ish before more groups trickled in! It has all the hipster decor like pineapples of different shapes on the wall, wooden everything. We ordered 4 entrees to share among 5 of us. The standouts- /Fish of the day (Pink Ling)- served with a side of chips, tartare sauce and salad. This was seriously beautiful. I mean it when I say that it reminded me of an amazingly buttery and soft char I had in Jean Georges. This was just lightly grilled, and flaked away when you use your fork to poke at it. It was a pretty generous piece too. After this meal, we ordered pink ling in several other places in a desperate attempt to re-experience this fish. But nope. It wasn't just the fish, but the way Hotel Bruny cooked it, that made it so outstanding. /lamb shank with pink potatoes - this was a generous, large hunk of meat, and incredibly soft and delicious. The lightly roasted potatoes and Chinese broccoli went along well too. Seems like a weird dish to order by the seaside but very solid. The chicken parm was a cutlet larger than my head, layered with ham and baked with tomato sauce. As I don't quite like chicken parm in general, I can't really comment...but my sister loved it. Seafood chowder was also good, but nothing extremely spectacular. The cubes of seafood and prawns inside were not that substantial though. It's clear that a lot of care is invested in each dish - or maybe the produce is just so abundant and fresh in Tasmania, but I doubt it. We delighted at how there were so many types of veggies in the salad including thin slices of bitter gourd and leeks. Deducting a star only because I can't imagine myself going all the way to Bruny Island just to eat it (that's what a 5 star would be!).

The menu offered home style cooking with the focus on local and seasonal produce and extensive wine list. I opted for the freshly made gnocchi with tomato sugo and parmesan crisps and the super rich chocolate an forest berry ice-cream salad to end a very indulgent night. The Islington makes you feel completely at home (we even spied a couple in there bath robes eating!). It's open plan design with a recently contemporary renovation in the rooms downstairs, it truly is the epitome of luxe!

The overnight manager greeted us in her robe and led us to our room. Since it was so late we just went straight to our room and eventually missed out on the story and tour of the hotel. Our room faced the back garden with a wonderful view. I loved that their bathroom is stocked with Aesop products. The big downside is that it is far from everything. We ended up walking to and back from Templo, which I really didn't mind since I grew up in San Francisco and is used to walking up and down a ton of hills, but it can be inconvenient. The breakfast here is great and my hubby loves the cafe lattes here! They recently brought on a new head chef who was previously at Saffire, so I'm sure the food is going to get even better than it already is!

A company featuring coastline cruises on the southeast side of Bruny island. We had been seated…read morenext to a local guy on the flight down from Sydney who strongly recommended this excursion and boy are we glad he did. We were up early so headed down to catch an early ferry to The island. We were ahead of the rush despite the busy summer season and unseasonably warm day and arrived at 6:50 and easily got on the 7 am ferry. (They warn you to arrive at least 30 min ahead). At that time of day the island was pretty quiet and after a quick breakfast we headed over to check in for the Cruise. They strongly recommend long pants and layers but as it was in the mid 80's and sunny, it wasn't necessary the day we went. Our skipper Michael and our "deckie" Ange, did a wonderful job explaining the landscapes while exploring the coastline. After sttarting our tour promptly on time at 10 am, we meandered along stopping to look at rock formations, caves and wildlife. They even poked the boat into a couple of caves and narrow spots and did a great job moving the boat around so everyone could get pictures. Despite a stiff wind, the ride was fairly smooth and the seats were comfortable and roomy. It got a bit rough once we reached the far end of the route where winds and currents from the southern ocean threw up some swells but that was short-lived and Michael did a superb job of working to minimize any discomfort or spray. That's where you see the Australian fur seals en mass so you have to tough it out a bit. On the return trip it's more about looking for dolphins and sea birds and again we weren't disappointed-several dolphins emerged right alongside the boat. Bottom line: this activity alone is reason enough to make the drive to Bruny. It was comfortable, informative and so well hosted and organized. A+ to the crew and staff. Highly recommended.

The cruise was highly entertaining starting with the pre cruise speech if anybody falls into the water yet man overboard as you will be right 90% of the time. The scenery was why we came and we were not disappointed. The seas (we sailed in 2) were pretty calm. We we got to lowest point there is no land between us and Antarctic.
