The atmosphere is amazing and the customer service is always sweet. There is so much to choose from for all ages, the selection goes from trinkets to cups/dishes and so much more. We have been going here for almost 2 years. We always had what I call pleasant experiences until today. I understand that accidents happen first off. The employee clearly stated that she broke my piece during the glaze dipping process. She fired it anyhow so I could see how it turned out, but clearly stated I was not allowed to take the piece with me. Upon further inspection of my piece it was altered in other ways as the lettering I had painted on had clearly been smeared and an attempt to clean it off had been made. I was then told I could come back and paint another piece for "free". No, not free. I already paid for it and was not taking a completed piece home with me. Oh and laughing about it didn't help matters ladies. We will not be back. read more

You know that line in 10 Things I Hate About You when Chastity says, "I know you can be overwhelmed, and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed?" This imaginary adjective best sums up my walk-away impression after my first go at Brush Strokes II. Brush Strokes is located right next door to Squeak Soda Shop. It is run by a nice older lady named Linda who has owned the business for 8 years. It started as a "paint your own pottery" place, and Linda has recently expanded it to also include a (very) small bead shop, "Kritter Korner" (where you can stuff & dress your own stuffed animal), glass fusing (still not entirely sure what this entails) and creating your own tshirt design. Each of these last 4 ventures occupies a very small space in the shop- DON'T go expecting to find a great alternative to Build-A-Bear or a full-size bead shop. The majority of the space is dedicated to the pottery & painting materials. There are TONS of pottery pieces in all shapes and sizes to choose from. Plates, bowls, mugs, tea pots, dog bowls, light switch covers, vases, jewelry boxes, and plenty of ceramic creatures (frogs, dogs, butterflies, mermaids, eggs, etc.,). Options make me happy, and I already have my next two painting projects planned out. There is a "Kids Corner" with smaller ceramic pieces that are all $10 or less. Each piece of pottery has its price written on the bottom, and they seem reasonably priced. I purchased a large mug to paint for $21.48 with tax. I'm not a huge fan of how the paint system works. If you buy one of the smaller pieces, you get a complimentary choice of 3 different paint colors to work with. If you get a larger piece, you can choose 5. Any additional colors are $1/color, which seems pretty steep considering how little paint you need to use most of the time. The paint color selection is good, but not great. Linda fires twice a week, Mondays and Fridays around 3 PM, so the max length you'd have to wait for your piece to be ready would be 4 days. While the type of arts & crafts that Brush Strokes provides can appeal to just about anybody (and I will probably go back to paint more things because I am a dork), it's definitely BEST suited for kids, and ideally a small group of kids. As an adult with no children I may not exactly be Brush Strokes' target customer, but I did enjoy my time there and will go back. read more

Brush Strokes is a WONDERFUL pottery painting studio! My daughter attended a birthday party here and painted a fun mug. There is a separate room for parties, which is great with kids who want to run and be a little silly, since it keeps the kids from running in the main paint studio area where other patrons might be and more importantly where other pieces are that could be broken. I had brought my 2 year old to the party with me and she was able to paint a fun turtle while the other kids were painting. The owner was very attentive during the party and I learned she even supplied many of the decorations for the party! The whole painting experience is VERY reasonable in price. They don't charge a studio fee so you only pay for the piece you are painting...which beats their competitor who charges $10 just for the benefit of sitting in their store location. The owner is friendly and wonderful! We plan to frequent this shop regularly! One additional note...I left my coffee mug at the studio when we were painting and when we returned to pick up our finished products, the owner had washed my mug and returned it to me! Great place for beginners or someone with experience. This was our first time at Brush Strokes. My wife and I took her 74 year old mother to do some pottery painting(glazing) for something to do together. We had a nice time. The studio is set up with several tables and easy to sit down with a group and talk, visit, and craft together. There is also separate rooms for groups/parties. We saw a couple of small groups with young children and some with older kids come in to work on projects. Linda, the owner, is wonderful. She gives you as much as you want as far as instruction and stops by to check on the new kids to give them encouragement or tips for success. She doesn't hover over and push opinions on your art choices. My wife and I did a lot of pottery several years ago and Linda runs a nice shop that is welcoming to all and, as the other reviews stated, she is a sweetheart. The cost is up front, the price that is on the piece includes the base choice of paints and the firing. So, if it shows $12, thats what you pay plus tax. A lot of places we have seen charge for every step and some even make you by whole bottles of glaze for the few drops you need, charge studio time, and then a separate kiln fee for the firing. When we came in, I couldn't finish my piece in the first visit and had to come back two separate days to do it, it was a detailed piece and I was in no rush, anyway, the point is that I did not have to pay any extra for the time that I spent in the studio and then I came back and got our pieces. What I paid the first day, for the item I selected, was was my only cost. Plan on a few hours, most of the pottery requires 3 coats of glaze(paint) to get the right finish, so paint, dry, paint, dry, and paint. It is not hard, just takes a little time. Also, you do have to wait of few days for it to be fired in the kiln before you can take it home. read more

My family and I visited brush strokes today and had a great experience. We have never been to a pottery painting place before and wasn't sure what to expect. After reading some negative reviews about color me mine, I decided on brush strokes. There was a birthday party going on but the owner was still very attentive from the moment we walked in. I read that color me mine has "studio fees", this place does not. The price on the bottom of the pottery is the total price minus tax (piece, paint, & fire). There was a large variety of pieces, including a whole kids section that is all under $10. She also offers military discount. Great prices, large variety, very nice owner=great experience. We go to Brush Strokes II each year for Christmas ornaments and other gifts (soap dishes, spoon rests, etc.) as well as usually once in the summer. It's a clean, well-lit place with a great selection. Service is quick and we've never been disappointed. While she takes credit cards, she prefers cash or checks (less fees, I am guessing). The owner is super friendly. They have a nice selection. It's not as perfect as the other ceramic paint places we've been to, but it's also not as expensive. We went here to save some $. I wasn't used to not having sponges to wash the ceramic. We were told not to. Not exactly sure what you do if you don't like your painting and want to wash away to start over, but I'm sure she'd be very happy to help. read more
