We'd been trying several different ice cream shops and "taste testing" them. When we went to the new Bruster's near their school in Farragut we unanimously decided Bruster's was the very best!! So we go to the Farragut Bruster's during the week and then the Bruster's on Northshore near my house on the weekends. Our big thrill has been going for ice cream when the weather is super cold! After a delicious dinner at Savelli's, the next step was obvious...Ice Cream. We normally go to the location on Middlebrook Pike, but since we were on Sutherland anyway we decided to go to this location. Pretty much same setup. I picked the small waffle cone...this surprisingly came with two scoops so I picked the Turtle, and the Oreo. I thought it would go together and it made a pretty good pairing. The ice cream is called "Premium" and that is pretty accurate. It has a good amount of "chewable" ingredients, but it isn't creamy enough for the "Super Premium" tag. At first, we couldn't tell if it was open. The lights were on but we didn't see anyone.. as we ordered, The service was pretty good. The ice creams were really good but I wouldn't recommend the brownies w/ the ice cream. It doesn't seem as fresh.. My husband got ice cream with a brownie and I got a waffle bowl with ice cream. I've got to say this no frills ice cream shop just does it right and doesn't break the bank. I've been coming here for years and the fresh made ice cream that Brusters makes is some of the best in Knoxville. We came in on a Friday night and we were able to quickly order. We both opted for waffle cones with butter pecan, coffee, and turtle ice cream flavors. I had the two scoop and that top scoop was a bit short, but overall it was an excellent value. I always like to try something new whenever I come here; they have a lot of flavors to choose from and they change it up almost weekly it seems like. It was a Sunday night when we went, it was a little past 9pm and they close at 11pm. I just would like to commend Joshua who was doing his best to tend to the customers. I noticed three more of his co-workers inside but they seemed to ignore the long line forming and kept on "cleaning" the store even though it was that early. You know when people pretend to look busy? That's what it looked like. I didn't care to wait, I just felt bad for the seemingly uneven division of labor. Came here on a 30 degree weather night and there were still people coming to get ice cream! That's how good this place is. I got a small waffle cone with cake batter ice cream and it is DELICIOUS. It's like a premium vanilla flavor which I loved. The cone was also very crispy and yummy. The ice cream itself is very thick and it gets "wispy" whenever I put my spoon on it and I love that. Its hand scooped ice cream with a thick soft serve consistency. The small waffle cone was already huge for me and I was very satisfied. They have seasonal flavors that they rotate in and out. My favorite is the coffee and the graham canyon. I've come here before and they did not have any coffee flavors of any sort. It was a bit of a disappointment but I got over it. With the lack of that flavor, I had open my palette up to trying other none go-to flavors. Had the birthday cake and then white chico chocolate Oreo the birthday cake literally taste like I was eating cake icing the cream tasted like the batter was very creamy not this watered down ice cream at other places. one of my favorite flavors was birthday cake. The white chocolate Oreo was amazing they were literally had whole Oreos not just a little bit of dust like other ice cream place. Bruster's may be the only reason that I'm glad to be in Knoxville. On this visit, the guy who took our order was extremely patient as my sister asked him 100 questions about the flavors. He never rolled his eyes, huffed, or anything. We ended up tipping him. I got the mudslide flavor in a waffle cone. It has chunks of Oreo and other bits in it. A word of advice. Bring plenty of paper towels and baby wipes because I was a mess while eating my cone. The cone held up, it was just that the ice cream began to melt rather quickly. The taste of the ice cream is phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. You can tell that it's real ice cream. The extra coin that you spend here is worth it. They give nice portions. No skimping here. I love Bruster's and this location is great. Always get fast and friendly service. Scoop sizes are decent and so is the price. My favorite flavors are graham central station- a must try even if you aren't a fan of graham crackers, Oreo- the cookies are the perfect consistency, white turtle- pecans taste fresh and you even get a hint of salt every now and then, and mint chocolate chip- they know how to do their chocolate chips right. Of course I like a whole bunch of other flavors too. Their cakes are great because the ice cream is top quality. The ice cream is the same great Bruster's ice cream they have at every location. It's a sweeter ice cream and they carry a lot of great flavors. My favorites are the blueberry cheesecake in the spring, pumpkin ice cream in the fall, and the blasts with candy mixed in. My only complaint is that prices are a bit steep, in my opinion. This particular location is nice because there's a lot more outdoor seating than the Cedar Bluff one and the lines are usually not very long, though it's still spring. Certainly, Bruster's will get you by just fine in this regard, just any other respectable brand would. Because I can taste no discernible difference between the quality of Bruster's vs., say, Dreyer's. If I were hard-pressed to think of major distinguishing factors about Bruster's, I would come up with flavor selection and serving size, namely the latter. I found the key lime pie ice cream to be refreshing if not remarkable, but a "Small" probably supplied my recommended daily caloric intake without the cone. If you're looking for exorbitant amounts of decent ice cream at a fair price, Bruster's is the place to be. read more
