There was about four employees there only one was helping any customers. Two of them were just sitting there chatting with each other about random every day stuff. I couldn't believe all of the native Michigan flavors were available in Tennessee (Mackinac island fudge, Superman, etc ) Dinged them a star as the hot fudge was overcooked and probably should not have been served. So, the ice cream was ice cream. The staff was super friendly and kind to my family of 6. They did have a nice patio front we sat at to enjoy our investment. I have to tell you though, for 4 root beer floats and 1 double dip of chocolate in a dish, and 1 scoop of blue cloud in a cone (over the top 10yo), I NEVER thought we would be paying $50. These are BASIC ice cream orders (with the exception of the 10yo). I admit I should have looked at the prices- but honestly that's why we kept it basic!! I thought $25 tops....I will never step foot in a Kilwans again. They do weigh the ice cream on a scale after they scoop it so what you get is what you get, we didn't get a "bad experience". I have been to Kilwins several times and your experience truly depends on the item you order. Or items...because, let's be honest, you can't go to a chocolate shop and get one thing. This little shop is on Gay St., near Mast General and it is said to have amazing ice cream. With Phoenix Pharmacy and Cruze within a stone's throw, I have yet to try the ice cream here but I have tried several fudge varieties and chocolates. We did not honestly care too much for the fudge. It was a bit dense and lacking the creaminess as it melts in your mouth. Instead, it just crumbled apart. However, the chocolates we have tried were really great. I've purchased Buckeyes, which after living in Ohio for a bit, we had become quite accustomed to (and divas about). Kilwins version is very good and the peanut butter mixture is the perfect consistency and saltiness. Their version of a giant salted turtle chocolate is amazing! It is really pricy at over $7, but it was very good. My kiddos also loved the rice krispie treats on a stick that were covered in chocolate and toppings like m&ms and sprinkles. I loved that the stick kept the chocolate off of their hands. Win! The shop is small but they pack a lot of variety in there. Chocolate to bake with, chocolate to drink, chocolate to chow down on, a whole section for ice cream, and currently a seasonal section for Christmas goodies and stocking stuffers. The service is also wonderful. You will definitely spend a pretty penny, but it is worth it. read more

This place is absolute cheek. I paid $23 for ice cream that was completely freezer burnt. I asked how many scoops were on the regular cone in this little nerd kid rolled his eyes and told me that " we don't do scoops because it's not a linear". Wth bro it was 2 scoops. The girl ringing us up was smiling until I clicked no tip because I already paid ridiculous money for some trash ice cream and then roll her eyes when I clicked the tip. Cutest ice cream shop on the strip in Knoxville, TN! Never really been a fudge gal nor ice cream, but today, I decided to order pistachio in a waffle cone bowl and it was fantastic! The waffle was crunchy and wasn't stale. There's whole pistachio nut pieces in the ice cream which adds texture and crunch to the dessert. My favorite ice cream or in general are matcha (green tea), cookies x cream, mint chocolate and pistachio! Decided to get They also have variety of fine chocolates, cakes, candies and fudge. This is a great gem downtown. The place always smells so yummy when we go in there and we always stop in to look at the treats even if we are full from lunch or dinner. The staff is TOP NOTCH. They always greet us with a smile, welcome us, and then, even if we don't buy anything thank us for stopping by. Of course, when we buy something they are just as wonderful. Charming shop right downtown with attentive staff and wonderful hand-scooped ice cream. We got pistachio and mint cookies and cream. But here at Kilwins, I didn't feel rushed or pressured. My son had the Superman ice cream flavor. It was not my favorite, tasted like bubblegum. I went with the butter pecan one. Both the ice creams were very rich. Just a little too rich for me. I could tell that was their thing though. The base flavor was very sweet. I was drawn in by the extreme brightness and crowd on a Friday night. Upon entrance and browsing, we were offered chocolate samples. Of course, we consumed. All of the samples were extremely sweet that it left us with a gross feeling. The flavors sounded cool but this is the type of chocolate that you can only have 2 bites of and be done with. We scooted off to the ice cream - the main reason for entering. They offer a lot of ice cream flavors and aim to be unique but the taste was too artificial. Also, for the price of a single scoop, you are way better off taking a few more steps for gelato and be extremely satisfied. Great customer service. The five-year-old in me really loved this place. Kilwins has some great dessert options - about two dozen ice cream flavors, countless chocolate flavors, tons of in-house fudge, cookies, and candied and caramel apples. It's great that they're so generous with samples, because for someone like me, it's overwhelming to figure out what it is you want. I did sample their cappuccino and chocolate coconut ice cream flavors, and their chocolate raspberry, chocolate peanut butter, and chocolate pecan fudges. Although it's not homemade, I loved the ice cream, especially the cappuccino, and thought their best fudge was the raspberry, although it's so overly rich that I couldn't take more than the sample size. In the end, we settled on a praline cookie and a caramel peanut butter apple. Seriously loved both; the cookie was so creamy, and the apple was heavy on the nuts and had a thin layer of caramel, so it wasn't too indulgent! The prices are quite high for what you're getting, but it's worth it if you find something you're in love with. The service is super sweet and patient, too! Enjoy the calories! read more

Kilwins has tasty ice cream, but it's a bit too pricey in my opinion. I went last night with my dad and we both ordered a small waffle cone. It ended up being $12 dollars for both. They do give you a pretty big scoop, but I was still disappointed in the price. The ice cream is good, but not phenomenal. There are other ice cream places downtown that are more affordable, so I'm not sure I will frequent this place. They do have other delicious looking treats that I would like to try though. I'm not sure the prices, but their fudge looks wonderful. Maybe night time I will forgo the ice cream and go for one of those instead. All in all this place is a thumbs up, but I decided to give it three stars because I feel it could be more affordable. read more

Kilwins on Gay street has many sweets and treats arrayed in glass cases down their rather long and lovely downtown space, however there is no kitchen. What is the lesson? That the employees are paid not to make amazing sweets, but to take them out of boxes and place them under a glass case. After waiting at the register and attempting a chat with an employee who could make no suggestions to me on what flavors to get, I finally settled on cookies n cream. I again waited in the cashier's line for five minutes to then learn that I needed to order at the line which had spontaneously formed next to the ice creams, thus I was told to get to the back of the line. I was able to pay after waiting in the fourth line of my visit (and then asked to wait several moments longer for the milkshake). I will spare more gorey details and finish with a recommendation to Kilwins: before charging ten dollars for a milkshake, please ensure that it is better than what one can get an Chick FIl A. Ever drink a glass of milk? This milkshake is a similar experience. Please, Knoxville is one of the burgeoning cities of the Smokies, it is a shame these passionless stores even stay open. I would recommend waiting in line for Cruz Farm where at least you will receive service from people who are happy to work there. read more

Kilwin's is usually a pretty good spot to go for a waffle cone or whatever your heart desires... but this time was not so great. The girl scooping the cone had absolutely no idea what she was doing. When she scooped my partner's cone, she broke the cone, and gave it it to him with a napkin tightly wrapped around it to hold it together. Upon finishing his cone.... the ice cream that melted through the crack and basically created paper mache around the cone making this treat very fibrous... When the girl made my cone... she broke the cone as well, so I gave her "the look" and she got a new cone.... well of course you're supposed to 'salvage' what you can for the sake of food cost, but when you hover my ice cream and THE SCOOP over the trash can 3 inches.... and yes she put that very ice cream in the cone and handed the ice cream to me... paid definitely did not eat that literal Trash! I later went back that evening with my family and bought a $10 slice of fudge to consume over a period of time and to generously share with others. Metallic, lard taste. However, my boyfriend and I were in from OHIO, we passed this place walking downtown Knoxville, and eventually decided to go in and see what it was all about. Their presentation of quality looking treats is exceptional. However, we got a slab of maple walnut, cookies and cream, and peanut butter fudge. Needless to say the texture was very fudge like. I understand times are hard and workers are very spars, but not even trying to rectify a problem with a customer is beyond me. I understand, which only means " (as in me) I understand only means me, when you offer the choice to change or omit something from an order, that's what should happen. If it can't, then the customer should be notified.
