This place is the real deal. I tried going to the gym, which worked out for a while, but I soon became bored with the constant repetition. I needed something a little more interesting. Lo and behold, I stumbled across this gym. Met the owner Jeff on an open gym day, who offered a free class before a membership, but I decided to become a member right then and there anyways. Best decision I could've possibly made. Here's a mental picture of a typical weekday evening, maybe around 7: walking into the gym, the first thing you see and hear are the punching bags. The smack of gloves against rubber, and then a timer going off every minute or so at a constant rate. Look to your right, a small class of new members doing a warm up. Look up at the boxing ring, a sparring match is taking place while the owner Jeff is on the sideline throwing in commentary for improvement. Chairs by the front might be occupied by a mom or two, watching as her little ones learn the basics of shadow boxing and how to wrap their hands for protection. All whilst rap music is blasting throughout the gym. With this scene in front of you, you won't be able to shake off this need to put in some work. Moving onto the actual classes. Not going to lie, the first few days suck. The workout with the instructor Jorge is going to kick your ass- I've been here for a little more than a month and for some classes I show up to, there's someone running to the bushes outside to puke at the very end. I've seen a military personnel practically winded- guess boot camp has nothing on here! But as the weeks pass by, you start noticing that hey... I did 10 more than the last time. This doesn't suck as much. And you start noticing how your stamina is improving, and that makes everything so incredibly worthwhile. You can thank Jorge for that, an amazing instructor who will push you beyond your boundaries, but understands that the body still has physical limits and will always want your health to come first. All around fantastic gym with great energy. I highly recommend to anyone seeking out a good workout for a very good deal, wants to relieve some stress, or plan on becoming the next Rocky. This is the place you want to be at.

The two girls at the front desk were evasive about answering my questions. They said I couldn't have a tour without filling out their "Liability Waiver". This form required A LOT of personal information. I told them, I was not signing up for a membership, I simply wanted to walk around and see the place. I wouldn't touch anything. They said I couldn't see it without filling out this waiver. I told them I didn't want to give them all of my personal information if I might not even sign up for a membership. I asked how they were going to use all of this information? These two girls said they don't use it. I asked, "Then why do you need it? Are you going to contact me? Are you going to sell my information?" They said no. So I asked if their company was going to contact me or sell my information, and they just looked at each other. I then said, "I don't have to fill out a liability waiver to shop at stores, get gas, eat at a restaurant, or go to a park. How dangerous is this gym that I need to complete a liability waiver filled with my personal information just to walk around and see it?" They couldn't answer that either. Then I asked which plan I would have to have in order to use my membership, if I bought one, at other TruFit locations as well as this one. It took five minutes of evasive answers before one of the girls finally gave me a direct answer that I would need to buy the most expensive plan to visit any gym location I wanted. From other reviews I have read about the classes themselves, the instructors are very good people and their classes are good, but the upkeep of the class rooms, bathrooms, and general gym equipment leaves a lot to be desired. Many reviews also state never being able to get the gym to stop charging them if they wanted to quit the program. I wouldn't know because I refused to complete their stupid "liability waiver", which should be called "Our Identity theft Business Model where You can check out, but you will never stop paying for".

The center is easy to find located just off of Briarcrest Drive near the Wal Mart and Bryan High. They have a few really great slides for the older kids and a kiddie pool for the little ones, if you like to swim laps there is a designated time in the morning for this and even some evening hours at different points throughout the year. It is well worth the admission or even the cost of a family pass.

You can even sign up for their email list and be notified if they have a maintenance shut down or if their hours change. It's a terrific place.

The coaches are top notch, no better boxing coaches in the Brazos Valley. Coach Joe Martinez is a 3-Time Olympic Boxing Coach, and coached fighters such as Oscar De La Hoya, Evander Holyfield, Raul Marquez, among many more. Coach Perry is a 2x Pro MMA Champion. They showed almost no interest in trying something new. So, yes, I had to kind of push them (gently) to give it a try. They have done other athletic things and grew to not enjoy them and I don't want them to come home every day and play videogames. The first class is a trial run and your kid can go without a uniform. They also have a starter pack where you can save a little money if everyone can commit. We've now been going for over a year (nearing 2 actually) and we're still going strong. Yes, my boys might say they don't want to go sometimes, but we have a lot more positive days than negative. They now are in leadership as well, and this gets them on a path to rank up faster while also finding more opportunities to lead and learn. What I enjoy watching the most is how they've improved SO MUCH with sparring. They don't hesitate anymore and just go at their opponent, or play defense when the time is right. It's truly a wonderful program that is essential for all kids, especially with the distractions we have today. ATA will teach them about respect, honor, integrity, and selflessness that will carry on into adulthood. We've also gotten to know the Palmisano's quite a bit and they are great people. They are always willing to talk and listen, all while they've got a business to run. They've done this for many years and have interesting stories. I hope to be here in another year and beyond when my kids should be black belts. Now if we could just convince them to try a tournament. But hey, baby steps!
