ETA: Removed comment about admin fee, which is mandated by the state of Utah, and is most likely simply a tax the state collects. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The morning of September 14th, while staying with a group of friends at Bryce Canyon Resort, we experienced a tragedy, when one of our party had a heart attack that he did not survive. As it was a motorcycle trip, we needed to have the motorcycle towed and secured, until our friend's wife could make arrangements to secure the bike. The Garfield County Sheriff's deputy on the scene told us he would have the bike towed, and would store it at the Sheriff's location until further arrangements could be made. He called Bryce Canton Towing, Joel Walter showed up, loaded the bike, passed out business cards, and was on his way. Last week, I was contacted by one of my friends who was on the ride, who told me he would be going to Panguitch to pick up the bike, at the request of the widow. I was also contacted by the widow, who told me the charges would be $1,118.99! She went on to tell me that Joel told her he would only release the bike to the bike's owner, (evidently forgetting why he had been called to tow the bike, just two weeks earlier), and that he would not take an overnighted cashier's check for the amount due, the only thing that would work was cash, or a credit card with identification. Luckily, my friend picking up the bike agreed to put it on his card, and get reimbursed later. Someone was thinking of the woman who had just buried her husband, and it sure wasn't Joel. The same day the bike was picked up, I contacted the Sheriff's deputy who had originally called the towing service, and he said the charges were "chickens**t", the bike wasn't impounded, so there shouldn't have been any impound fees, and that he was going to "make some calls". Of course, saying and doing are two different things these days, so after hearing nothing further from the deputy, I called Jim Perkins, the Garfield County Sheriff, today. Jim told me that the bike was never stored at the Sheriff's department, as there "wasn't room for a pair of roller skates" there, something the deputy evidently didn't know when he told us what he did. The Sheriff told Joel to store the bike at the towing business, which he did. For those scoring at home, Joel towed the bike from Bryce Canyon Resort to the Garfield County Sheriff's location, (21.6 miles), then to the Bryce Canyon Towing facility, (0.3 Miles), where the bike sat until it was retrieved. The invoice is attached, and I want to mention a couple of things: - The "fuel surcharge" is $144.99, and this is to drive approximately 44 miles, (from the towing business to Bryce Canyon Resort and back). Isn't fuel a cost of doing business for a towing company? And $144.99 for 44 miles? I drove my truck home at the end of the week long ride, also a jacked up bro-dozer like Joel was driving, and pulling a motorcycle on a trailer. My trip was 969 miles, and I spent $250 on gas. I can only imagine what it would have cost me, if 44 miles of Joel's trip was $144.99... - And finally, 3 "Impounds/Wrecks", at $179 each. The bike was never wrecked, it was still on the kickstand as the EMTs tried vainly to save my friend's life next to it. Impound? Nope, a fact that the deputy pointed out when I talked to him, and the Sheriff agreed. Yet my friend's wife, in order to get the bike released, had to pay $537 for absolutely nothing. The Sheriff, while he agreed that my friend's wife was overcharged, said he couldn't do anything; that Bryce Canyon Towing is on the rotational list for Garfield County, and evidently they were next in line when the deputy called for a towing service. Lovely, huh? You die, then things get worse, when Bryce Canyon Towing shows up. He said we could take them to court, but I talked to the widow this afternoon, and with the travel and headaches, it would be throwing good money after bad (actors). So if you're in the area and need a tow, my suggestion is to use anyone but Bryce Canyon Towing. If they'll blatantly overcharge a widow, no telling what they'll do to you. read more

Totally saved by Bryce Canyon Towing when I made a bad decision in Antimony, UT. About 8 miles off the paved road, around 8500 feet and half way into a ravine in the Dixie Nat'l Forest. Their yellow Dodge could only make it so far, had to HAND CARRY the Warn M1500 about a mile in and 1500 feet up. We did it, saved the truck (maybe broke our backs though.) In short, you made a mistake with your vehicle in Utah? Call these dudes because they WILL get it done. read more

Per an earlier review from this week regarding our motorcycle friend who unexpectedly passed away in the middle of our week long trip which required his motorcycle to be towed by this company, words cannot express my disgust and disappointment with how they have taken advantage of our friends wife. DO NOT support businesses such as this who lack business ethics and instead choose to take excessive financial advantage of the family who is going through tragedy. A business who clearly understood the circumstances of the tragedy flat out did not care that adding a tow and storage bill of over $1100 to the grieving wife is ..... well, I can't even invent an appropriate and printable description. Joel came all the way to Bryce Canyon NP via our roadside assistance membership. He was friendly, courteous, kind and showed us everything he was doing to change the tire in our new truck. This was all done within an hour of making the initial call. read more

My boyfriend and I were visiting and staying in Best Western Plus Ruby Inn. We were on the way to Zion National Park when our car broke down. We called our insurance and asked to be towed to a Sinclair to get it fixed. The tow company came very quickly and we were able to ride in the tow truck with the driver. The entire ride was very enjoyable as we held a conversation the whole ride. The driver was extremely kind and made us feel very comfortable! Bryce Canyon Towing saved our stranded family when our minivan blew a belt. We were very far from our hotel and it was getting dark, they were fast and got us towed all the way back to our hotel. Have waited 2 years to write this review but think about it every time I drive trough Hatch which is often. I hit a deer right in the middle of town and our trailer came unhitched totaling our suburban and trailer plus 2 ATV's. The towns people in Hatch were awesome! Came out after midnight and helped us clean everything up even offered us a place to Stay. Bryce canyon towing was called to tow away a three spot ATV trailer and one ATV. Towed it about 4 miles to their place on the north end of town. When I went to pick up they charged me over $800!!! Thought they were joking but quickly found out otherwise. I realize they had to come in the middle of the night but that kind of money for about 45 minutes and a 4 mile tow is outrageous. Don't know how they sleep at night. Rod H. Draper Utah read more

My front wheels got stuck in the mud on a back country road and Bryce Canyon Towing was the only company that would agree to come get us out. They were extremely professional and worked very hard to find us despite many obstacles such as the poor cell service and the bad directions given to them by my insurance company. Excellent service and response to my towing needs from a remote location in the Monument. I was so grateful for the call being answered on the weekend, and the immediate commitment that they could help me out. The tow was tricky, and we ended up using two different vehicles to get me where I needed to go. Our car broke down between Boulder and Escalante. Dispatcher was very kind, set up the tow and communicated with us throughout, and even set up for mechanic to be waiting for us on a Friday evening. Joel, the tow truck driver, was very kind and even waited with us while the mechanic at Royal Express Transmission diagnosed the problem to be sure that we did not need him to take us to our hotel. Bryce Canyon Towing takes advantage of tragic situations. Perhaps all towing companies do, but I will share the experience my family had with this company. They were called to tow my ex husbands vehicle near Bryce Woodlands. He had been missing for 3 weeks and someone called the police about seeing the vehicle in the same place (thank goodness). It would have been an easy tow and probably about 30-35 miles. Shortly after this, my boys father's body was found. It was a suicide (not in vehicle). This was devastating to our family. The boys wanted to pick up the vehicle a day in half later and were told it would be $630! My boys talked to them and they dropped it to $480 (the car was not worth that, The boys wanted it because it was their fathers). The offer from this company was give us $200 and the title and we will take the car! My son told them the circumstances of the death and their final offer was they would take the car for free if we gave them the title. We would have gladly paid them up to $200, but $600 for a simple tow. I would not recommend this company. What an awful ting to do to anyone, but especially to kids that lost their father. read more

I used Bryce Canyon Towing and feel that I paid way to much because they aren't knowledgeable. The driver couldn't get my tire lowered, he had radio contact so he could have asked for help. A job that should have taken one and a half hours took five hours. Should have cost $280.00 but ended up costing $880.00. I called the owner the next day and told him I felt I was overcharged and that his employee should have more knowledge, he stated that his employee's aren't mechanics and can't fix things like that. I took it to Ramseys towing in Kanab and everyone there knew about the problem of the spare truck tires getting stuck in the receptacle. The gentleman there sprayed some lub on it and had it down in less than 15 minutes. He didn't put it on a lift or anything fancy, just lubed it and got it down. If you are in the towing business I feel you should be able to problem solve or ask for help instead of the customer paying an extra $600.00. If you can, I recommend using Ramseys towing in Kanab. read more
