If you are staying at the Marriott Hotel, it's a short less than 10 minute walk over to Bryggens Spisehus. We had been here before but only to have a beer and sit along the banks of the canal.
They have a nice patio area, with heat lamps and blankets for those cooler evening, as well as a much smaller space inside. This evening we decided to eat inside. The huge windows allow the evening sun to come streaming in and it's quite warm in the restaurant. We arrived and didn't know if there was table service or order counter. There wasn't a sign saying "Please wait to be seated" So we assumed it was order at the counter. We stepped up and ordered our food and a beer each. Once we found a table we realized there is table service, but it really didn't matter much to us. When we placed our order we were told that due to a high volume the kitchen was a bit backed up and that our food could take up to 30 mins. No big deal, we had our beers and it was nice to sit in the sun and just relax. After 15 mins our food appeared on the table.
We had ordered the fish and chips and a pulled chicken sandwich. The fish was lightly breaded, not battered, and was fresh and delish. The Pulled Chicken was served with lettuce and coleslaw on the inside of the bun, which was very good and roasted new potatoes. Both meals were very good.
One thing we realized as we were here is that there were a few families around us, but most notably. We think we were the only tourists in the place. This was a locals hangout.
Overall, The food is fresh and good, beer is served up cold and the servers were very friendly to us. This local hang out has a great location and if you want to just grab a beer and sit by the canal and enjoy the evening sun, Bryggens has a fabulous location for doing that. I like this place ! read more
