George's has been a staple in the SMU end of the south end for many years. The proprietor is always Smiling and willing to help with decisions. If it's your first time with bubble tea I recommend trying the peach or mango with no milk, after that start trying out some of the more exotic flavours like litchi with milk or taro. The signature milk tea is the Magic Tea, highly recommended. There are probably 100 different teas on the menu. Summer time is the best time for the chillers, essentially a bubble tea slushy. Price wise they are pretty reasonable for this type of experience, but be prepared to spend 15.00 for two. If it's getting late best to give them a call and make sure they have bubbles left. :) read more

The store has decent bubble tea but it is overpriced. 6 dollars for a regular size... a little to rich for my blood. My main complaint, however, is the fact that the owner is so rude. I went in there one night when he was with a bunch of his friends and he stated that they are all out of bubble yea... I find that very hard to believe. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and went back a few days later. I was greeted by the same unfriendly owner who acted as though he was doing me a favor and did not even greet me upon entrance. I was asking which flavor was his favourite and he simply asked me to turn the menu around to reflect the "best in Halifax" marking on the front. A real jerk, I will not be returning and the Indochine Banh M near spring garden will be my go to, the tea is better anyways.... Spare yourself the time. Stopped by after work on Friday with with a friend. I was not impressed with the product and service having been to a chain in Florida and experienced this at Ginger Grass as well. The server was sitting and chatting with friends at the front table when we came in which was ok but he continued to talk to his friends in another language while he was serving us. I could have overlooked this but the place was simply dirty looking. The free tables were sticky looking and had not been wiped clean even though the place was empty beside the servers guests. The food prep area was not clean either and the menus were dirty too! I ordered the lg peach and my friend got a lg coffee flavored, both with milk. The price advertised in the menu was around 5.60 yet the price for two came above $14 which means I was overcharged $1.00 compared to the menu price. It seemed like he had rounded the cost up so he would have change. At this point I didn't want to argue and wanted to sample the tea. The tea flavor was nice and I noticed the tea more than at other places I have been. The tapioca balls were a bit starchy (mushy) compared to other places I've been instead of being more firm. The beverage was not very cold and uniform which could have been solved by shaking the beverage longer. Overall the product was 3 out of 5 but for $14 dollars it was a ripoff. This small shop should be clean, the product should be more refreshing, and the prices should be correct. It's rude to talk to other people when you are serving customers. read more

Bubble tea is one of my favourite beverages. By way of background, bubble tea is a sweetly flavoured tea beverage invented in Taiwan. Most bubble teas contain a tea base mixed with fruit and/or milk. The drinks usually contain tapioca balls (big chewy blobs that don't look the greatest but are tasty). Easy to find in large centres like Toronto and Montreal, I thought bubble tea was scarcer than hens' teeth around here until I discovered George's Bubble Tea, a reliable source of the real deal in the South End. George's is a small hole in the wall on Inglis Street. Spartan in its decor, minimalist wood furniture anchored by a bright orange wall with a few Christmas lights, this place is clearly about beverages. The menu lists hot and cold beverages of various types--black and green ice milk tea, iced syrup drinks, yogurt drinks and so on. A wide range of flavours ranging from traditional flavours including taro and honey to fruit flavours like lemon and strawberry is available. There is also a menu of additions which can be added to the drinks, the most familiar being tapioca pearls. Drinks are mixed as you wait. The servings are large, close to 16 oz, which is a whole lot of sweetness. I consider the price to be a little on the large side as well at $5 each. For me, this puts the tea in the special treat category. A small food menu is available. Items include traditional dishes such as Kung Pao chicken, spicy chicken and fried sauce noodles as well as some puzzling items like pork chops. Whatever drink you get at George's, you'll get a whole lot of it. read more

I hadn't had the pleasure of trying bubble tea until a few days ago, despite having traveled past George's many times in the past. My boyfriend is a bit of a bubble tea connoisseur - tea shops are a dime a dozen back home - and so we went in. It's a tiny, spartan little place - the furniture nearest the counter is awesome - empty except for another couple. The fellow who served us was pretty friendly. My boyfriend ordered a medium taro bubble tea and I chose strawberry (though it was difficult to choose - there are loads of flavors!). I found strawberry to be a bit too mild for my liking, though it was otherwise tasty. Taro seemed to have been the better choice. The tapioca pearls, despite looking odd, were numerous and delicious. Two regular drinks came to just under $10, which seemed pretty pricey to me. I'm glad I tried George's Bubble Tea but I think I'll try making my own next time. read more

I love bubble tea but this place is disappointing. The establishment itself has an old, abandoned vibe to it, and the owner is weird/aloof with service. My bubble tea was watery and uninspired. It's not a difficult drink to make, provided you have the ingredients, so a mediocre bubble tea is quite confounding. As scarce as this delicious beverage is around Halifax, I won't be venturing to the depths of the south end for the ghostly Bubble Tea Shop version. gingergrass and Indochine offer better quality beverages at similar prices (i.e. typical costly Halifax eatery prices -- 5ish dollars). read more

This place used to be good. The atmosphere was very musty smelling, unkept, and very unclean. The tupperwares that had the bubble tea powders were all dirty and looked like some water got into some and it was caked onto the containers. The chairs and tables were not sturdy and were very wobbly. The guy didn't seem too clean either. Never going back there again. read more

Creamy, mouth watering, with sweet and chewy pearl tapioca balls. I haven't had one of these since I lift Ottawa 6 years ago. And this place embodies everything I like about this drink. The combinations of flavors, colors and textures make this a fun and silly way to top an afternoon. read more

This is my second time having bubble tea and I love this place! I liked it better here then the place on Brenton (Chatime? I think). The bubbles were tastier! I had the melon flavour, I asked the guy what was a good one to have for someone who was new to bubble tea and he recommended this one and it was so good!! So excited to try all the flavours. It's definitely a little weird if you're trying it for the first time so be prepared for the bubbles. Definitely will be back! read more

Really tasty bubble tea, with so many flavors to choose from. While I was there I also tried their fried chicken and it was amazing ! The seasoning on it starts out sweet and then turns salty, and it was perfectly crispy. Would recommend! read more

I absolutely adore this place! I go there quite a bit whenever I'm in the area. The owner recognizes me lol. I adore bubble tea and this place makes the best bubble tea. We went there to check out their bubble tea and ordered one with milk, one with syrup. Both where delicious, held the flavour well, and the finely puréd ice with the flavours was delicious! I can't think of a better bubble tea I've had in Halifax or Winnipeg. I recommend checking it out if you want a light snack. read more

While I'm no expert in bubble tea, I do like it and I have been meaning to check out George's Bubble Tea Shop because I keep walking by it. My first impressions walking into the shop were quite positive- it's a small, simple space but the colours are bright; which gave the place a warm welcoming feel. The furniture (what there is) kind of remains me of the milk bar in a Clockwork Orange. There is a good choice of flavours which can make it difficult to choose. The person at the counter was OK, but it seemed that he was distracted for some reason and helping us didn't seem to be something he really wanted to do. However, with enough prodding from us, he helped my wife and I pick a couple of the more popular ones- melon for me and mango for her. The bubble tea itself was OK. The tapioca was at the right level of chewiness and there was plenty of it so that was good. My melon tea, however, was very bland and I couldn't taste any melon flavour (or any real flavour at all). My wife's mango tea was much better and if I could have ordered again, I would have picked that one or tried my luck with something else. Our drinks came to a little over $10, which is a little to rich in my opinion. I didn't come away thinking that it was money well spent. You should also make sure you bring cash, as there is no debit or credit. Now that my curiosity is satisfied, I don't think I'll be back. The price alone would keep me away, but the "hit and miss" experience and the lukewarm service help make the decision easier. I'll have to look elsewhere for my next bubble tea. read more
