Place was too busy the first time I came, which is a good sign. When I came back later they did an excellent job. Had breakfast in their cafe. They have better rates for cabbies. Should change my career. read more

Pulled in today, no queue - very strange as normally have to wait. 3 not very happy guys washed n dried. For £10 you get your car washes and hand dried and the interior cleaned and polished as well as your wheels cleaned too. It's not quite as spectacular as what you'd get from a main dealer or professional valet but it's less than a quarter of the price and it still gives you that new car feeling when you get back inside!! :-)

The 2nd time i'm half sure they scratched my car, but again I can't be sure as i'm not 100% it wasn't there beforehand. The fact it was a new car and I only noticed this afterwards would suggest so though. That car is now no longer anyway :( We went very recently to just get my borrowed courtesy car cleaned inside and out. They somehow managed to blast off half the letters on the front number plate, then refused to admit any responsibility and charged us the full £15. We ended up having to spend another £23 ish at Halfords getting this corrected. Not happy.

This time I didn't check until after travelling about 30 miles but there were bits which were clearly dirt "older" than 30 miles. Several batches which had not seen a sponge. Patches higher up around door handle, but further back and pretty much all of the bottom sides of the car. I am not going to give it 1/5 though because I deserve that just for things which are total crap. Uploaded photo showing side of my car. Probably looks even dirtier than it is actually is, in the photo. Plus I am sure some dirt is from the 30 miles travelled which did involve a bit of country lane.

As far as handwashes go this place is OK. I mean, its a good service, not the cheapest and its in a…read morereally handy place. But I do have not-so-fond memories of pulling off the road here, entering a queue of about a dozen cars waiting for my turn to be washed. I waited for ages before I started calculating how long it would take in all. I measured each car was taking approximately 6 minutes and there were 10 cars in front of me. You do the math! (as they say) so I wasn't prepared to wait an hour for a 'handy' handwash so I tried to get out of the queue. No can do. Here the queue was so tightly packed (in order to stop it spilling out onto the main road) that there was no chance. So I had to actually wait around 40 mins in the end before it was my turn. Now fairs fair - there isn't usually that many people in the queue, but i have been to other places which aren't nearly as slow so they could have done better. After that disastrous experience, I'll always check if there's a few cars in front before pulling off the road!

Charnock Richard Services is a fairly nice motorway services, it is located just off the M6, three…read moremiles away from Chorley town centre and is operated by Welcome Break. It is split across Northbound and Southbound, the Northbound is the larger of the two Here you will find TWO different Starbucks locations as well as a Little Waitrose and Partners, WHSmith, Subway and a Ramada Hotel in a separate building. The Southbound side is a little smaller but still has good facilities including a Starbucks, WHSmith and a Post box, with a large parking area and petrol station (very overpriced petrol) on both sides. On the bridge connecting the two, there is a KFC and Burger King - so plenty of choice across both services for fast food. The bridge is fairly modern, it has the benefit of being fully inside so you do not need to leave the service station and go back out again, do be advised that the Northbound side does NOT have an elevator, it has an upwards escalator, and a staircase. The southbound side however has an upwards escalator, and an elevator - It was a little odd how they only had escalators in one direction and an elevator/lift on one side, but at least I got my exercise for the day! I always visit service stations on Christmas Day for something to do, they always seem to have basic facilities here including at least Starbucks and one of their stores open, alongside the usual bathroom/shower facilities. Fairly clean and modern, nothing too exciting but well worth calling in as a stop-off point along your journey. 4*

The facilities are basic but pretty much what you'd expect including slightly expensive petrol, a store selling basic essentials, toilets, I do think a Subway or a food outlet would have been handy, but Starbucks is obviously great for coffee, plus if you're in a rush the convenience store (Spar) also has a coffee machine, meaning you can instantly get your drink without having to actually go inside Starbucks, but do visit the Starbucks too if you have a chance as it is a rather nice location. With the petrol station being Esso branded, you are able to collect Nectar points on fuel, as far as I'm aware this doesn't extend to other parts of the store meaning any groceries/coffee you buy, you can't claim points on. Pretty average service station in terms of facilities, They do seem to be missing a trick by not including Amazon Lockers, they do have them at Morrisons which is just over half a mile away but of course the hours are limited due to the store opening hours. 4*
