So here you get huge portions. Way too big to be worth it. The kiddie is a huge scoop that none of our kids finished. The small was 2 giant scoops. My daughter and I had a hankering for ice cream so we were in Avalon and decided to give Buccaneer Ice Cream & Candy a try. When we parked, there were several tables outside under a cover if customers wanted to eat their ice cream alfresco. When we entered, there were signs guiding customers in one entrance and out of the other with social distancing markers inside. Maybe we came at a less crowded time, but all customers were following the social distancing markers and the young man behind the Plexiglas counters was wearing gloves and a mask. He was very polite and let us both know that each scoop was roughly the size of a softball and boy, he was not kidding. I'm so glad we only ordered the single "kiddie" scoops. It was so hard to resist the amazing smell of fresh waffle cones being made, but we went with the basic sugar cones with a scoop of Mint Chocolate Chip for my daughter and a scoop of Sea Salt Caramel Nut for me. Hands down in was one of the creamiest and most flavorful ice creams either of us have ever had. In between licks of her ice cream cone, my daughter could not stop talking about how minty the ice cream was as well as how many chocolate chips were in the ice cream. My Sea Salt Caramel Nut was one of the most rich ice creams I've ever had with the perfect balance of the sea salt and caramel. The ice cream was also chock full of nuts. We were a bit sad that we weren't able to finish our cones before we started our evening activity, but if we're in Avalon again, we'll definitely plan a little more time for a stop at Buccaneer Ice Cream and Candy. read more

5 stars for service and for fantastic ice cream! It was a SUPER thunderstormy Saturday night in off season (May) around 10 and we started craving ice cream. Having been disappointed twice that day already by showing up to businesses who weren't open (a coffee shop and a boyb lunch spot), we decided to call and confirm that they were open, before venturing out into the monsoon. We were all super shocked that they picked up, and told us they were open to 11! We waited out the rain for about 20 minutes, and all piled into the car for an ice cream outing, arriving around 10:30 only to find a closed sign on the door, and the floors freshly mopped. We were so crestfallen, that we walked up to the door to try it - just in case. They said they had closed early because of the weather (can't blame them!), but when we mentioned we had called to confirm their hours, they nicely let us in! One of the staff even walked over the freshly mopped floor in his socks to unlock the door! There were 5 of us, and we all ordered a kiddie size ice cream in a cup ($4.25, I believe it was). First off, their sizing standards need to some looking-into. In no way was the massive quantity of ice cream I received appropriate for a child! It was SO much - plenty to share, but of course I ordered my own... and ate it all. The flavors were plentiful - so so many to choose from!! Because it was late and they were doing us a favor by lettings us in, we all restrained from tastings or being too complicated with our orders. I made a quick decision to order the Peanut Butter Ripple (one of my favorites), and the Moose tracks. I think I got Buccaneer tracks instead, which turned out to be delicious - I think it's similar to moose tracks with a coffee ice cream base instead of vanilla. The ice cream itself was really good! Exactly what I was craving, delicious hard ice cream with tons of flavor! The PB Ripple had plenty of peanut butter running through it - YUM! I'd definitely come back! My husband ordered the Almond Joy ice cream - I took a taste, and it was really good; coco-nutty and creamy, tasted exactly like an almond joy! Oy the young pirate couldn't see the movie because it was rated Arrrrrrr. The B is located right in Avalon. So many competing places for ice cream. While the B isn't my favorite (see Springers for that) it is a top choice in Avalon particularly if you take kids. There are many flavors and toppings to choose from. The ice cream is very good. Portions are ridiculously huge. Note there is a bit of deception: the small isn't really the smallest portion, it's a medium at two scoops, with kiddie being the smallest at a single scoop. You want kiddie. I know, it's embarrassing to order kiddie as an adult, I suppose that emotion is there objective, but it's still huge. Ice cream here is expensive, brace yourself. But it's Avalon, everything is expensive. The B also has entertainment some nights; a magician, juggler, and singer. Fun stuff for the kids. Not every night so check the calendar. The boldest can go for the Ship Wreck: 12 scoops of ice cream and all 15 toppings in a giant bowl in a pirate hat you can keep. Finish it, even with friends, and they will take your picture for the annual wall of honor (or shame depending on your perspective). I made the wall in 2010 and the memories are not fond. Aside from feeling like a slug afterward, I didn't like that you can only order 3 different types of ice cream, ie 4 scoops of each. I understand that some patrons would take an hour to pick out 12 different scoops, but I say that's a buzz kill. Even so, I am a pig at heart, can't resist a challenge, and vane enough to want my picture on the wall, so I'll do it again this summer. Go to Springers for the best. A young enthusiastic woman took our order but incorrectly put other members of our party on our bill that shouldn't have been on our bill which made for an embarrassing situation. We've gone to this seashore ice cream parlor before, usually in the afternoon when it's not very busy. Today we went for a late treat after a night out with the kids. It was a totally different experience. One young server was taking orders at the end of the ice cream counter. Then you skip the pack of 6 to 8 servers who were filling orders behind the counter, proceeding directly to pay at the register. Then you wait around the corner from the start, where a server brings out your order. It was a strange and inefficient-seeming setup, with very little interaction with the servers. There were multiple orders in progress, but for the number of servers that were behind the counter, service was slow. We took our order outside and enjoyed our ice cream on a bench in front of the store. The ice cream quality and flavor variety are good. One of the serving staff came outside and began noisily stacking unused plastic chairs that were not being used. This was at least 20 minutes before closing time, so it seemed unnecessary to me that it be done so early. It certainly could have been done more discreetly. read more

The Almond Joy shake had huge chunks of fudge added to it and when questioned about it, they were dismissive and claimed that's how the ice cream was... not true. Unfortunately the service was not good and when we tried to talk with the manager we were treated even worse than the staff members that decided it was better to pick off the toppings from our ice cream vs. make us a new sundae.
