Descended on Kohr's with the hopes of getting coffee ice cream. And holy moly, they had coffee caramel twist...yes please! I ordered it in a waffle cone and it was everything I imagined it would be...delicious! Only hiccup was that it immediately started leaking through the bottom of the cone. I love KOHR Bros. The custard is excellent. However, the young ladies that are working at this particular establishment are extremely rude and should not be working with the public. I went here last night with my daughter and said hello to the girl taking out order. She looked right into my eyes and did not respond. I still put a tip in the tip jar and she did not say thank you. When she handed me my order, I said thank you and she again, looked right at me and did not respond. It was uncomfortable and aggravating. This is the custard which seems to define all other custards in the world. And the name is famous. Even back in Georgia, people asked: "Did they have Kohr Custard in Stone Harbor?" This Kohn Bros is in the heart of Stone Harbor, and we visited just as the busy season was getting started. So when we walked by and saw no line, we popped in to sample the stuff. And walked out of there with some thoroughly enjoyable custard, which also happens to come in a couple of flavors other than chocolate and vanilla. The orange and vanilla "swirl" is like a cream-sicle, but better. The chocolate and peanut butter combination is a winner. But if you want to just experience soft-serve custard at its best, just be a purist and get a bowl of the plain vanilla or plain chocolate. You won't be disappointed. Creamy, rich, and cold. When all the tourists (read: suckers) make their way over to Springers for the over priced, over rated ice cream in the ridiculously long line, I recommend you give Kohr Brothers a try. They are right in the heart of 96th Street and serve up some delicious soft serve. Yes, if you're craving hard ice cream you'll need to look elsewhere (like Springer's), but Kohr Bros can make a swirl out of all their flavors. The orange/vanilla is popular, but I go with the chocolate peanut butter swirl every time! Have you seen anywhere else that offers that with soft serve? I haven't. It's $4 for a small swirl, but they are big on size and taste. Be warned, the lines can get long here too, but it is very fast moving and nowhere near as bad as Springer's in price or wait. Delicious frozen custard! Really. Not ever to be confused with plain-old soft serve ice cream. CUSTARD is King and Kohr Brothers makes it just right. Get the chocolate on a cone dipped in chocolate. Benches everywhere nearby to sit and enjoy. I felt like a kid again as the ice creak melted and dripped down my hand and to my elbow! What a fantastic day and a beautiful memory. These stores are all over the Jersey shore: Cape May, Wildwood boardwalk (like 3 of them there) and Stone Harbor so I had to try it. No samples, that sucks, you may be stuck with a flavor you don't like so much. I went vanilla kiddie size in a cup, I really just wanted to try a little portion. Nutrition fact: 130 kcal per 1/2 cup, 50g of fat. Not bad. I enjoyed it very much actually, it felt super creamy and soft, perfect texture to me! It is prepped with eggs according to the guy behind the counter hence the custard part. Totally yummy. I don't think I would go more than the half cup tho, I am used to super light froyo, but on a hot summer day this treat totally hit the spot! Yummy. read more

I don't eat a lot of ice cream anymore, partly because of the whole Aspiring Vegan thing, and partly because I don't go nuts for ice cream like other people do. And I'm really not a fan of soft serve, pretty much ever. Except in the case of Kohr Brothers. Soft serve ice cream is just plain boring. I'd much rather have hard serve ice cream with big chunks of raw cookie dough or brownies in it. And frozen yogurt is just awful and not much healthier than the real stuff. But Kohr Brothers serves their own version of soft serve ice cream -- frozen custard, to be exact. I really don't know what makes it different from it's imitators, but it is without a doubt the most addicting stuff on the planet. With a cold, almost marshmallow-y texture, a cup or cone of Kohr Brothers' vanilla-chocolate twist with sprinkles is like eating a slice of heaven. The stuff is so freaking good. And yes, of course, good stuff doesn't come cheap. Tack on the fact that you are eating it in a seasonal shore town, and it gets even more expensive. But it's well worth it, in my opinion. It may not be for everyone, but if you've never tried it, then you are missing out. read more

The night I ordered here, I got an ice cream cone for my disabled cousin, and it was only a couple of days ago. It was a to-go cone. He had a stroke and couldn't come into town to get the ice cream with me. I asked the girl at the counter if they had lids, and she said no. I asked if they could flip it (into a cup), and before anyone could even bother replying to me, they were already doing it. The girl doing it must have been new, because she missed the cup. Half of the ice cream cone was out of the cup. She asked the girl working the register if she should remake it. Wordlessly, she takes the cone/cup, hands it to me, and says to have a good night. The line was out the door, so I understood the rush, but they charge almost $8 for the ice cream, and my cousin was really disappointed. By the time I walked home, the ice cream was practically gone, given that half of it was on the floor at their location/dripping onto my hands/the sidewalks. Maybe just try and consider your customer's experience more, sometimes getting ice cream is all they look forward to.... read more

This time we went off season- no waiting! I had the super sized sugar cone, which I love. I also got an empty cup because I shared with my dog. For once a year, this is terrific. The rest of the year I get the small which I really enjoy. The quality is excellent, the price is moderate and the staff is friendly. If you like soft ice cream, this is your place. So Ice Cream, or in this case soft serve, is almost impossible to turn into a negative experience, but not in Avalon/Stone Harbor,... continuing our "you can't make this isht up" mini vacation, we were headed to Stone Harbor to play a round of ridiculously overpriced Miniature Golf, but unfortunately the weather had other plans. As the storm blew in we convinced the kids Ice cream would be a great substitute for the now unobtainable round O golf. The only real Ice cream place has a line out the door 24/7 so we stopped at Kohr Bros. The choices are pretty basic, overpriced Vanilla, Chocolate, Coffee, and Orange Soft Serve. My son gets vanilla (no matter what else is available) so I order his cone, just as the charming older lady behind the counter pulls the lever of the Soft serve machine, and gets an ounce (or less) in the cone I hear my son say cup, and I blurt out wait! a cup! What happened next is still perplexing: The grumpy old lady mumbles to her compatriot "I asked him three times, she hands the 10 cent cone with 10 cents worth of soft serve to her cohort who reacts as though she just handed him a radioactive isotope! He literally threw it at the trash can like his hand was on fire. As you know if you have read any of my other reviews, I am kinda militant about the products and services that I am asked to pay for. If it is good, it should be 'cause I am paying for it. If it's great, I am thrilled and will tell everyone I can get to listen. If it's bad, I will probably say nothing and never go back, but if it is unreasonably bad...well..., here we are. I looked at my wife who wanted nothing more than to get our kids the ice cream and head back to the hotel. I on the other hand was now in the position of having to decide to give these cretins even more money after such absurd treatment. I stared at the evil old lady behind the counter, she glared back. I looked at my wife, she glared back. I couldn't stop myself, I told the lady behind the counter how I felt about her complaining about having "asked me three times" (which she never did because I ordered without being asked anything), instead of an apology she became even more belligerent and restated her reason for taking offense. Unbelievable! 20 cents worth of Soft Serve. I paid the $4.45 for the single cup of crappy soft serve and we left. I will never patronize a Kohr Bros. again and every chance I get I will share my tale of woe. Great job there old lady of Stone Harbor. My family and I have been to numerous Kohr ice cream stores in OC, Stone Harbor, Wildwood and Cape May. We have only had a positive experience in all the stores. Not sure why there was such a negative write up from someone who apparently had a bad day all around, It's unfortunate this person had a bad experience but it shouldn't reflect upon all the stores and all the sales people. Prices are competitive with other ice cream stores I don't agree with the prices but it's what it is. There are alternative ways of buying ice cream. Bashing a business because you are an unhappy person doesn't resolve anything. read more
