If I could give a review with negative 5 stars, I would. I tried to purchase a rifle there, and was treated HORRIBLY. Eventually, I did discuss it with the owner, Rex, who assured me that I would be treated better. He even put me in direct contact with a manager there to deal with... so I gave it a second chance and purchased the rifle. As a 'thank you' and a 'sorry you were treated that way', they gave me and my friend (who also bought a rifle) some give cards for range time. Each card was supposed to have two trips. When I went in and tried to use my card, they rang up the range etc, and then kept the card. So I tried to explain that it was for two range visits and explained to the manager what happened previously. He even remembered what happened, and acknowledged that I was given the extras, but doubled down and said "no, you're only getting one trip to range time" and basically dared me to report to Rex. So I tried. I notified Rex via text message that I was again treated terribly,. He was away on vacation and told me that he would address it when he got back. I never heard from him. The other reviews are right. It is a nice place and clean ranges.... BUT... the customer service can be the worst you've ever seen, and the prices are high. Now I can see paying higher prices for a nice place with excellent customer service... but customer service can be as important as the product you buy... and if you're getting service as bad as this place gives... then you're paying way too high a price. I've seen Rex respond to reviews, and in those responses he states that he wishes they would reach out to mgmnt first before posting bad reviews.... but what about when you reach out to the owner (Rex) directly and he doesn't respond? Well, then, the review is warranted. I tried to give it a second chance, but when you're treated badly... and then the second chance is just as bad or worse... what then? read more

Buck and Does's sits right off of 281 nestled in between an apartment complex and a day school. The location is prime and can see a lot of traffic, but it is relatively light on weekdays. But sadly, this place is a shadow of what it once was. All the employees I've grown to like: Attila, Donovan, Rob, John, Mike, Paul, they have gone from the company citing issues with management. The quality has gone down to far since then, and I don't see myself ever returning. While I was there, the gunsmith did take good care of my guns. The range was relatively clean both in archery and firearms. The membership was expensive. For nearly $100/mo for a family plan, you get access to a 17-yard firearm range. Most other places have 25-300 yards, with even one having 100 yards indoors for the same monthly price! Overpriced to say the least. For what the price is, you can go elsewhere and have been amenities. Look elsewhere unless you are just coming in for a day or two. read more

I can't recommend the Stop the Bleed class at Buck & Doe's enough. Corey (the instructor) has that rare ability to make a serious, potentially intimidating topic both engaging and genuinely fun. He answered every question with enthusiasm, explained everything in a way that actually made sense, and kept the class entertained from start to finish. By the end of the class, I walked away feeling far more confident that I could actually help someone in an emergency. My only suggestion would be for Buck & Doe's to stock tourniquets for purchase after the class. Once you realize how important they are, it would be incredibly convenient to leave with one in hand. If you're thinking about taking a Stop the Bleed class or any of Corey's classes, do it! read more

For my Christmas present my boyfriend bought me my first firearm. We were visiting San Antonio at the time and came to Buck and Doe's. Being the firearm aficionado that he is he immediately put a red dot (purchased elsewhere) on it however it caused the gun to jam. So we went back the next day to test out loosening the optic and try it without. Worked perfectly. Mike was helping us every step of the way. Great man! Very patient considering this is my first firearm. The entire staff was fantastic!! Very knowledgeable and informative. Not only about my firearm but anything we wanted to look at. Bought a special order and paid for it. Called for updates a few times only to be told they will call me when it gets there. Waited over 7 weeks so far with no response or call. Called for a refund and was told it was coming in a month and a half and do I want to wait. I said I wanted a refund. The manager got back on the phone and surprise one appeared in the shop and I could pick it up if I wanted. I said I'd take my refund anyways. Principle of the matter. They didn't care until I wanted my money back. I will let all of my friends know and people that ask me not to do business here. Let me say that the only thing I don't like about this establishment is getting to it! The road construction out front seems like it has been going on for years with no end in sight. We have been doing business with these folks for several years and have had a good experience each time. It all starts with parking, and they have plenty with easy entrance to the front of the store. Then, upon entering, you are greeted by several happy employees. They do a great job of making you feel at home. The store is well laid out into different sections for various sports. In the very back are classrooms for teaching. My entire family has partaken in various classes. My daughter, as a non shooter, really enjoyed the basic class that also included hands on live fire training. We found out that they can also give individual lessons, and we may all do some of that. I enjoy just walking around the store and seeing all the products that they have. The employees are always willing to help and will answer all your questions. I think they make an effort to get the products you are asking questions about into your hands. Touching and feeling the products probably help them sell you something that you want:-) They also have ranges for guns and archery in the store. They are inside, well lit, and ventilated well. If you are in to shooting sports, archery, etc. this is a place you need to visit! read more

I stopped by to check this out and pick up a few .410 shells. Their shotshell selection wasn't quite what i was expecting, but they had a good amount of other stuff. Private 1:1 Shooting with Don...Amazing Experience! I've shot a few times before at a range, but was interested in learning some of the basics, etc as I work towards a LTC. I scheduled a 1:1/hour session with Don, and wow did my shooting improve 100x in that short amount of time! As a female, I'm learning for my safety and we went through scenarios and shooting that were "real-life" encounters. I appreciated the dynamic from a male point of view and made the questions, etc very relaxed. We covered the basics of load/unload and I tested out a few guns. The clear steps on how to properly stand, hold the gun, and squeeze the trigger changed the game. Highly recommend as I feel really confident going forward. Thanks y'all! read more

I've been a member for years a few months ago I posted a review that they had gone downhill a little bit. Well, happily they're back to their old self a fantastic place to shoot! I've always loved this place the services is back to the level It's known for. They always been great people. The range looks much better the brass is always cleaned now up, knowledgeable staff. It's definitely the best range in San Antonio with a great selection of guns to purchase or rent & the guys there are really nice & ready to help. I attended a beginner gun class here, and was disappointed at the amount of political jokes the instructor threw in. I mean, one joke is fine, whatever. But by the 3rd reference to "damn liberals" I noticed that I was not the only one rolling my eyes. I guess they don't understand that *anyone* can own a gun, not just people that align with the instructor's political preference. The facility is nice though, and the other employees were very nice. I might be back to look at guns and try some out, but I will go elsewhere for gun classes and instruction. read more

Great customer service and instruction! I did my LTC course here. I did the first part online via a link on the Buck and Doe's website. The second part of the LTC course is the 1-2 hour shooting instruction. My instructor was Ron Benton and he was a great instructor. He was very informative, funny and his tweaks to my grip and stance improved my aim immediately. Walking around the shop, I also noticed the prices of the ammo and firearms were some of the lowest prices I've seen and the prices of the accessories were competitive to what I've seen at other shops including online stores. I'd give them 6 stars, but Yelp limits me to 5. Looking forward to going back! read more

So happy I found this place on Yelp! My family wanted to shoot guns (we are a family of 5) in Texas and that's exactly what we did! We called to find out more info and reserved a time to come in. Ron was our instructor and gave us a lesson on proper gun safety and usage. What a day!!! I couldn't believe how well I shot my target! My 3 teenage boys had the time of their lives plus some!!! Ron was amazing, gave us great advice and told us memorable stories! We will always remember Ron and Buck and Doe's. Ask for Ron! You will not be disappointed! I don't typically write reviews on businesses, but after my experiences with this business I felt like I owed Buck and Does. I bought a Matthew's Lift in December. This was my first compound bow. While I had experience shooting them, my knowledge on them was very poor and I informed staff about my lack of knowledge. I simply told these guys I wanted a Matthew's. They got all my measurements on my draw length etc and I decided on buying the latest and best of what Matthew's had to offer. They let me shoot the bow and offered to let me shoot others before buying. Months passed and I finally decided on a sight. I went back to get the sight mounted. I was prepared to pay the fee. They did it without charge because I had bought the bow with them. I took the bow home because I thought I could sight it in based off YouTube videos. I was wrong. I became frustrated so I took my bow back to have them help me sight it in. I have to give Attila a big shout out. He worked on my bow and sight and was there with me for over an hour until I was dead on. This made my weekend as I was able to shoot all day Sunday at home. I was also given a gift card for my birthday earlier his month. I lost it, but had the receipt. Kelly was very helpful and stated they would replace the card and keep it stored in a safe at the store. Every time I have gone in the staff has been helpful and friendly and understanding. This was my first visit and first class which was ladies night. The evening started with thorough saftety information, then Q & A, range time, followed by some food. The range time was excellent. Got some great coaching and tips. Instructors made me feel comfortable and confident. They took the time and interest to ensure I was following instructions and getting the most of my time. I particularly like that all information and instruction was geared for women. Even got a coupon for shopping in their super cute gift shop. Definitely money well spent! I am a person with disabilities and didn't know if I would be able to use the range facilities. I found the facilities compliant with the ADA and very accessible for me and my big power wheelchair. I also found the extra help I needed from Ron Benton. I was able to qualify for my LTC license with Ron's assistance. All the Buck & Doe's employees have been helpful to me and other customers. It's a neat concept. As some other newer indoor ranges in San Antonio, they also have store fronts but most of the items are geared towards the shooter and their gear. Buck & Doe's Mercantile's store is geared towards the shooter and the shopper. They have plenty of supplies and gear that the shooter would need. As well as jewelry, coolers, clothing, purses. Ladies - you're husband can go shooting and you can go shopping! The indoor shooting range was nice. I did not venture into the archery range at all. They dropped a star due to not offering law enforcement or military discounts as well as I did not like that you can shoot rifles in the range area. The bay next to us, there was a gentleman shooting a deer rifle. It was so loud. And I could feel it when it went off. I love to shoot a good rifle, but not when I'm trying to shoot a handgun. I wish there was a specific rifle range for that. Overall, it was very clean, easy to get checked in and easy to go over the initial contract on an iPad. You do this during your first visit. It was cheaper than other indoor ranges in town as well. read more

Super cool shop. Wide variety of everything. Super super helpful staff. An older gentleman behind the gun counter was there with me for every second of 30mins. He was super helpful and he even took the gun apart to show me what parts make up the gun I wanted. He took down 4 different price point guns and showed me the difference between them all. Super awesome store. FFL fee is a bit high but I can work past that. Will definitely shop here from now on! read more
