I truly wanted to give the shop a better rating, but after my most recent experience with one employee, I just can't bring myself to do it. I am by no means a firearms expert, but after how I was treated by Gene (? Spelling might be off, but if you hear the name, FIND ANOTHER SALESPERSON) I wonder how many customers, espically any novices, he must have run off. His disdain for his job is evident before he even opens his mouth, (customer service mind you) and his condescending and holier-than-thou attutide makes me think his momma didn't beat his ass enough as a boy. His knowledge on the products is lacking tremendously, or he enjoys declining to share it with the customers who come to Nagel's for the sole fact that he dosent understand/care about his job. I do not write this lightly, as a proud Texan I take my guns and who I buy them from very seriously. For years I have enjoyed Nagel's and the service recived there, but this rotted apple has ruined the whole bunch. Hopefully the store actually reads this and takes my comments into consideration. I don't want to find a new shop, but if I keep seeing this jackass there, then I'm moving on. Maybe after the holidays management will send this guy packing and I will be able to walk happily into Nagel's and continue to give them my money. For anyone reading this to help choose where to go, Nagel's has been mine and my family's choice for years, with relatively good service. But if you are new, be warned about this poor employee and make it a point to ask for someone else. I waited before writing a negative review because this used to be the best gun store in town. I have been coming here for years, but the last three times that I have come by - I have left without looking at a single item. Today, there were only 3 cars in the parking lot so I decided to take a chance and see if it had changed. I knocked on the front door. Every other store I have been to has a door that opens, but I am not opposed to safety. The door was answered in a reasonable time and I asked if it was possible for me to go in and look or was there a delay. He said no problem and let me in, after he locked the door behind me he said that I would have to wait in the anti-room on the right. The two previous times, I was told how long the wait would be and left. Either I should be waiting outside in the car, or allowed to look around in the store, WHY WAIT IN THE STORE WITH OTHERS? After 30 minutes I left, only one of the two people in front of me had been allowed to enter the store. Not sure why we NOW NEED AN ESCORT. If Covid is an issue ("it is") then the last thing I want is a tail! Like the last two times, I went down the street to one of the newer stores and received great service. Disappointed, this was an oldie but favorite spot, but the times be a changin'. 3 Strikes and you are out, I doubt if I will be back. read more

Wow, I just read some of the reviews where customers have had some negative experiences at Nagel's. I am an avid gun collector from Cotulla, Texas and I have compared the national retailers' prices to those of Nagel's and I am impressed with the fact that a family owned business from San Antonio can compete with the national retailers. I always believe in getting the best buy for the money and I always try to give my business to the locals if I can afford it. Nagel's has always beaten everyone else's prices and the staff always greets me in a very pleasant manner. Ron, Jesse, Tim, and Chuck are ready to answer all of my questions and I would bet that they will do the same for everyone. The youngest Robert always thanks me for my business and that always scores a home-run with me. During the last few years, I have bought many knives, guns and rifles from Nagel's and I have never experienced any unpleasant situations during my visits. I have lived in San Antonio the past 8 years. When i first got here, I was not a big Nagel's fan due to pricing more than anything, and also that they didn't have a bright new fancy shop. They have always had extremely knowledgeable staff though. For the past 2-3 years, however, I have made several purchases and referred at least 7 new shooters to them. I have steered friends looking for both AR's as well as nice combat pistols (HK, Walther, Sig) to Nagel's due to the fact that their prices are as good as, and in many cases BETTER than the internet guys that i used to frequent (buds, kentucky gun, etc..). Staff is not condescending, is extremely knowledgeable & friendly, prices are extremely fair, and they seem lately to try really hard to stock all the coolest new guns. (and give the best deals). Nagel's doesn't make me feel like i am being gouged or taken advantage of like most gun shops around here do. I really like doing business with them. I have been VERY happy to be able to give my money to local business. Keep up the great work, guys. read more

A special thanks to GM Todd Hamm who took time out of his day to look into a weapon that I thought I would never see again. A few years back, do to illness and business issues I had to sell some weapons to make ends meet. One was very special to me. My wife and I were out shooting this morning, and I had an issue with one of my pistols. We loaded up and went to Nagle's to drop it off. Out of the blue I asked about this one weapon. I was introduced to General Manager Todd Hamm, who said he would look into it. To my surprise they still had the weapon. This has been in my family for 80 plus years,passed from father to son, and to see it again was a miracle. It is back home where it belongs and a special thanks to Nagel's and there staff, especially Mr Hamm. I bought a Sig Sauer P220 from Nagel's two weeks ago. Was a bit concerned as it was my first FFL transfer - I had previously only bought locally in Connecticut. Every aspect of the process was handled courteously and professionally (thank you, Justin and Phil). Nagel's really stepped up to the plate, however, when a FedEx snafu threatened to delay delivery past a competition date I needed the gun for. Despite a shipping label being promptly generated, FedEx never picked the gun up and it sat unnoticed on shelf for 4 days. Nagel's agreed to hand deliver the gun to FedEx, ship it overnight to my local FFL dealer, and eat the normal $150 upcharge. Kudos to Nagel's for their professionalism! Dennis has taken care of me for years. I have always had very satisfactory service, especially considering that every time I am in the store, Nagels is extremely busy. All of the employees are very helpful and knowledgeable about the products they sale. I cannot say that I have ever had a bad encounter with an employee at Nagels. I have been coming to the San Pedro store since the mid to late 1960s. If I am looking for a special firearm and Nagels does not have one, they are truthful and advise to find one elsewhere and have it shipped to the store for me to pick up. I have been working with the folks at Nagel's Gun Shop for a couple years now. They have always gone out of their way to assist their Customers and have an Excellent inventory to choose from. If you need it, want to see it, want to handle it, they most likely have it. If they don't, they can usually get it. I have compared their prices with other stores and online and Nagels is right on target. I first visited the store last year during their Truckload event and the place was packed! I enjoy working with them and the gals in the office, so on my next road trip from Shreveport, LA to San Antonio I will definitely stop by for a looksee. I found there web site on line, found the gun i wanted and had some ?'s so I called the on the land line ie phone the first person didn't have all the answers i needed but they said they were sure someone else could give me the answers i needed! I spoke with a gentlemen named Todd, not only did he answer all my questions but some i didn;t know i had. my order was placed and guns shipped the same day . my whole experiance was conducted in a top notch manner i wouldn't stop for a second in doing business with them again . Nagel's is our #1 gun shop to go to in San Antonio. I went to many shops around town before discovering Nagel's Gun Shop. The first day in there I purchased several Handguns after looking at their wide selection. The Employees behind the counter were very helpful and had no problem having a friendly conversation while I waited for the processing. If I am ever looking for specific version of a model, I just email the store and they always get back to me right away with an answer and will order when needed. I want to start this review by saying my experience was fantastic. The staff greets you as you walk in an immediately offers their help. Their selection of firearms, ammo and cutlery is second to none in the area, and their prices are great. They are always running sales on firearms which is what I purchased my 1911 under. Did I say their prices were great!! I will definitely use them for all of my firearm needs. I am military, not from Texas, all I needed was a copy of my PCS orders and something simple that verified my home of record like a water bill or something. I am new to the great state of Texas, I found this gun store online, I was looking for a CZ 75 in a particular model. I walked in here and was blown away!!! What a fantastic gun store! Its like a kid in a candy store. Just a cool experience, yes its a busy place, that's because its good....dimly lit display cases??? Took my deceased uncle's guns to Nagels to have them priced and they were very informative and experts in firearms it seemed and did not charge me a dime. They also were very knowledgable in each states gun laws which saved me from a possible felony if they hadn't informed me that one of the guns was illegal in California, where the beneficiary of the guns lives. Still the best gun store around, they have their excellent gun smiths that have worked on my Weatherby and Kimber firearms, still a personalized store and not a big box concept of some of the chain brands. To find a place that stands behind what they sell and honor the factory warranties of accuracy and reliability, sometimes it gets really busy in the store, but a little patience can go a long way in to getting the information and service you want.
