Had a blast coming here. I've never heard of this place before, but my friends told me about it so we went. Very peaceful and clean. Wasn't really crowded at all on a Saturday where it was 82° which shocked me. The rocks may hurt some people's feet so some beach shoes will come in handy for those with sensitive feet. read more

Wonderful!!!! The cabins are super nice and the lake is just great! I've been here several times and it's got everything!

Still a great place, wonderful facility, etc... But PEOPLE!!! You're TRASHING this place, turning into one big, over-filled garbage dump, and it's just IMPOSSIBLY sad and frustrating!!! We decided to spend the last evening of the recent holiday weekend over at the park, and all in all, it was a good choice. Free admission, never too crowded, hiking, biking, boating, swimming, camping, etc... BUT I have NEVER seen this place such a TERRIBLE mess!! Yeah, yeah, I know it was a holiday weekend, but NO EXCUSE for the amount of trash we saw... Bottles, cans, bags, food, wrappers, dirty diapers... All sorts of random crapola!! So sad, and so pathetic... We saw half empty trashcans EVERYWHERE, but it looks like no one could be bothered!! We spent half our "relaxing" night at the park picking up other people's messes!!! SPRINGFIELD... This place is the BEST we've got!!! PLEASE don't screw it up-- It's a BEAUTIFUL park, and it's our RESPONSIBILITY to keep it that way!!!! read more

Very well-kept grounds and the waterfront views and activities are wonderful features in Central Ohio. 30-40 minutes from Columbus, this has become one of my favorite outdoor locations. You can book available cabins online. Minimum stay is 2 nights. Check in is 4 pm. Check out is 11 am. Cabin is well laid out with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, living room, small kitchen, and screen porch. There is heat. Linens are provided but I would suggest bringing your own for comfort. Kitchen has small electric stove, microwave, refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker. Dishes, pans, utensils, mugs are provided. Cabin had a television with Direct TV which turned out to be a nice surprise once we found a channel showing movies. Great experience renting a cabin for 2 nights. May need to downgrade this review to 2-3 stars if there really were bed bugs though. (Tip: take your own linens and put them directly in a hot clothes dryer for 30 minutes before washing. This will kill the insects) read more

So keeping our social distancing in our life we traveled out to Buck Creek. We always take our boat to Alum Creek. This place is a gem. They have a stocked Marina, place to tie up the boat and the water is clearer than other lakes in the area. Also, there is a huge beach and a frisbee golf course which we fell in love with. The bathrooms were not open yet but the cabins we went to go check out were decent. Closed for the winter but 2 bedroom cabins they look decent , all with picnic tables and fire pits. Minorities beware! This was our last visit to Buck Creek State Park. We even left a night early because of how unwelcome we felt. The money we lost out on does not cover the cost of what my family and I experienced because these are memories that stay with you. Normally I would not care but I have two young nephews who don't need to deal with the type of racism that I grew up with my entire life and while they are under my care, I need to protect them! Just like every camper who has an electric box, we set up camp just next to it, particularly for the items we bought that needed electricity to cook and more! We spent an entire hour with my 2 young nephews teaching them how to set up a tent only for a white woman working at the park coming to tell us that we needed to move because we are in the space of the white man next to us. She assumed that we wanted the space for the shade and the tree and expressed to us that the space actually belonged to the folks next to us even though our electric box was right there under the tree!!!! Our real purpose to camp right there like everyone else was for our electric box and from looking at the map and our instructions, NOWHERE did it say that we were supposed to camp on the left or the right of our parking space. We were also set up as close as we could possibly be next to our electric box and cars and would have been nowhere close to these folks! When I gave this staff member a look of disbelief after her saying what she said, she also brought up the fact that those who complained next to us had a large birthday party and that's the reason why we ACTUALLY needed to move! We did not argue this because I wanted my nephews to enjoy their first camping experience...... Despite the fact that this WHITE MAN decided to stare us down disgustingly for a solid two minutes while we set up our tent (If You Know The Look, Then You Know The Look) and then tried to act like nothing happened... Despite the fact that the staff unfairly demanded that we move out of our own space just to accommodate others when these folks had twice the space we had... Despite the fact that these folks next to us decided to park their trucks in our space as well leaving no room for us to cook next to our electric box like we needed, along with no consequences given to them... Despite the fact that we paid good money to be on this electric campground only for Buck Creek State Park to give us a horrible experience! While I was angry and annoyed that they let this man have his way and that they did not even bat an eye or try to work with us, it did not surprise me at all knowing that my entire life, I have dealt with white folks in this way in thinking they are in the right when they are clearly wrong because of their own shady and selfish reasons. However, I understand that you need to pick and choose your battles and that was not the time for the sake of my nephews! Buck Creek State Park, as an Ohioan, and Asian American born, I am completely disappointed in your staff and the way you handled our visit here! I will be sharing my experience with ALL of my friends and family who also love the outdoors so they know to avoid your campgrounds! In no way, should you EVER make your visitors feel UNSAFE. read more

Wow! Only one other review? I'm surprised! Springfield has been hiding this nice state park from us. Opened in 1975, it's a huge 2,120 acre reservoir with a really nice beach area that's about a half mile long with a decent light gravel and sand base. Everything looked clean and neat. Grounds were well kept and the people just seemed like average middle class people out for the day with the kids. There's also 1,896 acres of parkland with plenty of paved trails for walking or biking. It's nice too that it's wasn't crowded at all. I was there yesterday at about 3:30 and there were maybe 200 people there on a beautiful day so it wasn't crowded at all. If you find the Dayton or Columbus area parks are a little too crowded and you don't mind a little road trip... This is a solid 4 star park and it's free to everyone. read more

Buck Creek is OK for a state Park, but it's in need of some TLC. We stopped during the 4th of July weekend to enjoy a packed lunch after exploring Springfield for a bit. It appears the reservoir beaches had succumbed to the toxic algae, so there were warnings posted, but it still didn't keep families in need of some summer heat relief away. We drove around till we came to one of the picnic areas near one of the ridges. It was nice, but the picnic tables were inconveniently placed directly in the sun in all locations. The other qualm is that there were about a billion ugly brown metal garbage cans resembling postal drop boxes placed in the most unseeingly and useless area. Really killed the vista vibe of watching sailboats when your view is obstructed with a bunch of random garbage cans.... nowhere even near the picnic areas. The signs around the park were also a bit weathered from the weather and could use some TLC. The park is quite basic. There's no surprises around the bend.... it's just a plain ol' reservoir just holdin' all that algae infested water. It was a little more 'open' than my liking. I think some trees would greatly help in the common & picnic areas to help make it more of a park, and less of a space of resource baking in the sun. Overall -- the grounds were clean on my visit (maybe a plus from all the garbage cans), and there were plenty of folks out being active. There were some nice shaded trails around that may require a visit from myself in the future, but overall the destination was A-OK. Not my favorite State Park, but I suppose it suffices if you need to get away from the hustle & bustle of Springfield. read more

What a lovely weekend. My family and I took a trip to Buck Creek Park and it was fabulous! We rented a cabin and stayed for the weekend. When we arrived to the park it was clean, quiet and the location was awesome! There were groceries, a Walmart, and restaurants close. So we really liked the easy accessibility of thing! The most notable thing about the park was the price. For 2 nights we paid a little over $200. The cabins had a kitchen, dining room with cable, 2 bedrooms (1 full size bed, 1 full size bed and full/twin bunks), and a let out couch in the living room! It also had a closed in back patio and lovely bathrooms that seemed newly renovated. The thing I really loved was that there were towels and linens in the cabins already!!! That is why I give this place 5 stars!!! There were also a fire pit & grill for each cabin. The cabins were oober clean - we totally LOVED it! We are planning to take another trip in October because our experience was so lovely! read more

It's a great place to bring family. My brother and his family. Total occupants: 2 kids under the age of 8, my daughter (17), 4 adults. The master bedroom had a queen sized bed with a small vanity area. One open closet and an iron and board. The second bedroom has a bunk bed and a full mattress on the bottom bunk. Next to that was a twin bed. Also had a vanity and open closet. One bathroom with standing shower, sink, and commode. They provided towels and linens. Each bed had sheets and comforter. Living room had a trundle couch. Flat screen tv with directv. Kitchen had a refrigerator though very small, the stove with an oven, coffeemaker toaster & sink with running water. cabinets had some dishes and pots and pans and utensils. Small table with the bench. Although compact still have all the resources you needed to make a meal. Back porch was screened in with a picnic table. There was also a rocking chair and two other chairs. Outside in the fire pit area was two picnic tables as well. The barbecue was a standard outdoor barbecue pit area. There are a lot of spiders by the door however you were out in the woods. So they weren't invasive at all, however, was scary to look at every time you walk in and out. The weather was nice although it didn't rain it was still comfortable. Lots to do on that trail hike as well really close. There was also play area with swings and a Bocce court. Another thing was that we stayed in a pet friendly cottage. All of the carpets were not perfect, however, they were not smelly at all. Very clean for the location. Would definitely stay there again! We stayed in cottage #12. I would like to try cottage 18 or 19 just because it had a Lakeview. However those may not be pet friendly. read more

When you enter the park, there a lake to the left and across from it is the office for permits and info. If you want to camp, you need to go deeper into the park, following the path and signs to reach the camping office. We paid $28 for tent camping with the electricity option. The offer restrooms with showers, playground, personal parking and grills, and a laundry facilities. Sadly we went when it was raining but it made the day memorable when we were the only tent campers setting up when the storm came while everyone in their RVs watched us. Many of the visits are traveling, are friendly, and love sharing their travel stories. read more

Beautiful state park around a massive water reservoir! I went there this fall and the leaves on all the trees around the water were just breathtaking. Also happened to be there for the park's Halloween weekend celebration: everyone parks their campers for a night of grilling out, haunted campsites, trick-or-treating and hay rides. SO much fun! Can't wait to go back in the spring/summer. read more

I came here with my dog and mostly hung out at the beach. The beach itself wasn't all that impressive - it was basically just a bunch of gravelly sand along a reservoir. The water looked like it's probably good for boating, but the beach was pretty lame. Maybe if I were here to camp or boat it would have been better, but otherwise it was pretty underwhelming. read more

Best beach your gonna find within a few hours? Definitely. Best beach? No. It's a great size for a man made lake, but beware this isn't a 'wiggle your toes in the sand' beach, bring flip flops. Closer in its bare-foot-walkable but after a foot or two you NEED shoes. Your feet will hate you if you don't, OW! On the upside it's very pretty and during the week it's fairly quiet. Have ran into some... Erm... 'Rough' individuals that like to yell demeaning things at women trying to enjoy themselves. Would recommend if you just need to visit a beach for your sanity, it'll quench the thirst, but not completely out out the fire. Four stars is honestly for convenience, otherwise it would be three. read more

We attended a week-long horse show at the Champion Center in Springfield and elected to stay at one of the cabins instead of a hotel. It was cheaper for two rooms, gave us the ability to cook our own food and the atmosphere was a thousand times better than a hotel! We stayed in Cabin 3. The cabin was clean, had better cookware than I own, a microwave, stove, oven, fridge, flat screen TV with cable, and..... my favorite part.... a wonderful screened porch overlooking the woods. If you're a prima donna, you probably won't like the crack in the linoleum floor in the bathroom or the fact you have to take your own trash to the dumpster, but for normal folks, it was everything it was advertised to be and more. If I ever come back to the Springfield area, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. read more

I am the manager of two campground and I can truthfully say from what I have experienced and seen this campground is for local and regular visitors. As a new visitor I could not pay for a campsite today for the next day. But a regular visitor can. Also grass was extremely high. Camp host was not to be found. If I run my campgrounds I this manner I would have been replaced several years ago. I guess the State of Ohio doesn't care. I would love to manage this campground read more

This is a great state park for camping. The restrooms and showers are relatively clean. The camp sites are well maintained and if you do your homework you can find a site that is mostly shade all day. The camp store has lots of things just in case you forget something and in addition there's a Walmart about 3 miles away. read more
