Love this camping , ranges and beach at Deer Creek. We camp here quite often and love it every time we come. The only complaint I have is sometimes the shower areas are pretty dirty and the floors are slippery . Will continue to enjoy the state park ! read more

Deer Creek State Park offers a nice variety of activities, including hiking, bridle trails, golf, disc golf, and water options like swimming, fishing, and boating. For overnight options, there is a large campsite, a lodge and conference center, cabins, and the historic Harding Cabin, which has a presidential connection. We stopped by for a day trip and did not use any overnight options, though we hiked a trail in the cabin area, and the cabins looked very nice, with great views of the beautiful lake, as did the nearby trail! We headed over to the beach afterwards. It's 1,700 feet and a very nice area. The water was a bit, shall we say, refreshing, but it had been a bit cooler around the time of our visit, so I'm not sure if that's the regular summer temperature or if that was just a byproduct of the weather. There are some picnic tables in the grassy area near the beach, but it is otherwise lower on amenities than some of the other state park beaches we've visited - no trash cans, although there is a large dumpster up the hill - and a port-a-potty, rather than any restrooms. This is a very pretty area with a lot of enjoyable outdoor activities! read more

definitely would not recommend for A class RV Spot 11 full hook up was so unlevel that our leveling system could not get RV level enough to open slides even using blocks !! We ended up having to stay at Lodge. There is absolutely no reason the site is like that. Can't imagine any camper being able to get level. read more

Getting out in nature was just what I needed. Love how many (not all) of the camp sites feel very private and separated by foliage. The bathrooms were clean and usually pretty empty since most folks had a camper. read more

Deer Creek is a good park. It has a pretty lake. That's the centerpiece of the park. It also has a beach. The lodge is the worst. Avoid the lodge. It will ruin your experience. The other arrangements will all be much better than that. It has several pretty decent looking cabins. There's also areas for motor homes or trailers. Either of these would be better than staying in the lodge, which is outdated. The park itself takes up a large area around the lake, including several activities and sites. Be sure to see the dam. There's an area between the dam and information center where you can read about the history. Another place to go is the beach. They often don't have a lifeguard on duty, so be careful especially if you have kids. The best thing here is the lake. It always looks nice no matter how the weather is. The park is just kind of out of the way from the highway, but not too far though. read more

deercreek was a lot of fun. my verizon was spotty and worked best around the park area but it did what i needed it to. we rode scooters around and had a blast! the golf was free at the time which was even better. theres even a dogpark. we went paddle boarding and kayaking which was so much fun. i would definitely recommend! read more

My review is for the park and not the lodge. I have not been to the lodge and I'm pretty sure they have their own page on yelp. Overall, the parks in Ohio have far passed my expectations. Deer creek is pretty close to where I live so we come here atleast once a week. They have a couple really nice playgrounds for the kids and plenty of good fishing places. There are public hunting grounds, an outdoor shooting range, and an outdoor archery range. We mostly come here for the archery range. It's really awesome for a free archery range. There is an area to shoot targets as well as different targets through a path in the forest. It's very beautiful and calming. Most of the time we are the only ones here too. I definitely enjoy our visits here and we will keep on coming back. I'd like to try renting one of the small cabins they have available off the lake. read more

Rolling Hills and VanHorn Trails - - Sunday hike beginning at noon in August... Bugs were horrific - it's August! Markings for trails were good - signage and color markings on trees. Trail path - some spots were fairly overgrown encroaching on trail - NOT good. Pretty vegetation and trees and lake viewing - nice! Butterflies too! Bridges throughout tail were in almost poor shape - watch your step. Great work out! read more

June 14-2022 Camperoo I camp at deer creek a lot. All pads are paved and mostly level with some of them having slight leveling issues. There are 232 electric only sites. Sites 003 through 096 are wooded. Situated behind sites 112, 113 and 114 on one side and sites 001, 003 and 005 on the other, is the main playground. Behind all the even sites from 202 to 218 is the activities field. This field has 2 GAGA ball pits, concrete Pickle ball pad, Basket Ball, Valley Ball, Succor field, a Stage and a Projector Shack for Saturday night movies, with free popcorn (bring your own chair and mosquito repellent). Balls can be obtained from the camp office which also has mini and disc golf supplies to lend out. This field also has a double shelter on a concrete pad, which is next to the Friends of Deer Creek Food booth behind wash house 4. The booth is only open on special events during the camping season. Courtesy of the Friends of Deer Creek, some sites have their own metal shelters. Most sites are spacious but some are close to other sites that make for good group camping, Or put "Love thy neighbor" on an all new level. During the wet season beware of even Sites 082 through 088 in the woods. Lot 086 gets flooded. The only thing above water is the paved pad. The flood goes out from there to the other sites, which has their own drainage trouble. Wooded Sites 018, 020 and 022 also gets a lot of standing water, but seems to drain quicker, if it ever stops raining long enough. There are other wet sites but these are the worst. The dump station is a 2 lane gravity flow system, situated on the main road going out of the camp ground. It well served its purpose in the days when campers were smaller and less of them. But now, when Sunday mornings come around, the camp dump station is no place for tender ears. The line is so long it blocks some of the camp sites close by, blocks in and out traffic and the wait time seems to go on forever. Campers come so close to each other a mouse wouldn't survive between them. Just be patient, you'll get there and plan on the extra time it'll take to get through the line. Up by the camp office is the improved mini golf course with carpeted concrete pads and new steel shelter, again courtesy of the friends group. Also there is a memorial disc golf course. Neglected by the state, half the fairways are hip high in grass and mud holes that can swallow up shoes. People spend most of their time searching for their discs in the weeds. It's a great fun course but needs some attainable attention. The horse trails nearby are also overgrown. The mowers are probably avoiding break downs from trying to mow through mud. New to the park, by the overflow parking lot, is a story book trail. By the entrance is a little library with all children's books in it. There are 4 other little libraries, by all the main shower houses, throughout the campground. The only bad thing I heard about the shower houses was that there are no hooks for towels or clothes and the exhaust fan wasn't functional. On another note, if you need a store close by, go to Frosties, off 207 going toward the Dam. It's more than a hunting and fishing store. They have camping, food and paper supplies and the best varieties of scoop ice creams. Happy Camping! read more

Hey Columbus, this place isn't that far away, so I came here with a friend. It's pretty nice too; go for a hike around the (admittedly man-made) lake then stop at the lodge for some coffee. Sounds like a good way to spend an afternoon to me. We saw lots of deer and wild turkeys (the living kind, not the drinkin' kind,) which my San Diego-living friend enjoyed thoroughly. Trails were well marked and clean, save for the odd beer can that some underager probably snuck into the woods with from one of the campsites. I think I'll bring R down here if she gets tired of Sharon Woods. read more

I have always been a fan of Salt Fork and Maumee Bay (also Xanterra resorts). Deer Creek was a complete disappointment. The entire lodge is in need of a facelift (peeling wallpaper, faded and stained carpeting, rust stains in the tubs, etc). Even this would be forgivable, though, if the service were not so embarrassingly terrible. We made 8:00 dinner reservations. We were told at 8 that the table wasn't ready yet. Okay, it's Valentine's Day, it happens. At 8:45 we still hadn't been seated and we started to wonder what was up. When we finally got someone at the host stand they said they'd check and then finally sat us. We walked past FIVE empty, clean tables on our way to our table. How long were they empty, and how long ago could we have been seated? The meal was decent, but the dessert was pretty poor. Then, for breakfast... It took almost twenty minutes to finally get our drinks to our table. Then almost 35 more minutes for the food to arrive (in that time we couldn't get our drinks refilled...) When the food did arrive, it was undercooked and wrong. We had two coffees and two omelets, and it took almost an hour and a half from start to finish, and we left still hungry. They told us "Oh, we're shortstaffed today." There were two servers, a host, and only eight tables of people. That is NOT short staffed... When we told the lady at the front desk she delivered some of the most insincere apologies you could imagine and gave us a 20% off coupon for another stay...that expires in three months... They had a manager working, Xenia, who was outstanding, but clearly had her hands full of people incapable of performing their jobs and she ended up being left to fix everything herself. Hopefully this is a fluke and Xanterra hasn't gone downhill this much, but needless to say we won't be returning to Deer Creek, not with Salt Fork and Oglebay being so close... read more

I stayed two nights at the lodge. The 1st room's TV had a really fuzzy picture and not much of a view off the balcony. The woman at the desk when I registered said all the rooms with lake views were reserved for a group arriving the next day. But the very helpful maintenance man was able to move me to a room with a beautiful lake view and a TV that worked. Hmmmm. The bed was comfy, room was acceptably clean, Nice bathroom with a fan so the mirror didn't get all fogged up, and one of those curved shower curtain rods which makes showering much more pleasant. The little refrigerator worked fine as did the little one-cup coffee maker. However, the phone did not work and a piece of the chair rail molding was falling off the wall (such an easy fix so no excuses). The carpets in the halls were soooo filthy! Large stains every few feet. And it was obvious that they had not been vacuumed recently. In fact the same debris was still on the floor the day I left as when I checked in. Also lighting in the halls is very dim...maybe that's on purpose to hide the dirty floors. It's not working! I ate dinner at the restaurant one evening and the service was excellent and so was the food. I had the chicken breast dinner with baked potato and broccoli. Raspberry swirl cheesecake for dessert. Yum. The chef even came out and checked on me...wanted to know if everything was ok. Nice touch! I have stayed at Salt Fork, Burr Oak, Punderson, and Mohican State Parks. With the exception of Punderson, all of them could use a good cleaning. They are such gems in Ohio's crown of amenities....I hope they are well-cared for so that future generations will be able to enjoy them. read more

I often come to Deercreek for hiking. I think the best trail runs between the lodge and campground. It's appropriately named the Rolling Hills Trail. Many of the other trails have fallen into disrepair over the past several years. Actually, an argument could be made that the entire park has fallen into disrepair when compared with other state parks such as John Bryan, Maumee Bay or Mohican. Some park ammenities have recently started improving, however with the new park management. I include the improvement to the Rolling Hills Trail among these. The beach and marina unfortunately are not improving. read more

We stayed at this State Park because of the close proximity to the Circleville Pumpkin Festival. It was an easy hour and a half drive from Cincinnati. We stayed in one of the bigger suite sized rooms. It was roomy with 2 queen beds, a sitting area with a couch and 2 easy chairs and a table that seats 4. Overall the room was fine, although just feeling it's age with things like old dried out chalking in the bathroom, chips on wood, etc. The view from the room was extremely nice. You could see woods and a lake from the big balcony. We liked the free internet. We ate in the restaurant on a Friday? We went early and got a seat by the window and the panoramic view of the lake and woods was absolutely breath taking. We were looking forward to the Friday All You Care to Eat fish fry. The food was mediocre and service was poor and slow. It took forever to get refills on the fish and fries. On our way back to the room we passed a nice lobby with rocking chairs and a big stone fireplace. It would be a nice place to sit and enjoy the view. read more

Nice, big body of water. Much cleaner than Buckeye Lake. Good place to go and boat. I don't recommend the beach if you're going to compare it to an ACTUAL beach, but bring a chair and some towels and you'll be good to go! Definitely recommend for jet skiing and tubing. Usually not crowded or choppy. read more

I spend 4 nights at the camp grounds at deer creek last weekend. I have visited the campgrounds many times over the past 40 years. It use to be a great place to go. Not so much anymore. The campers have changed over the years. They use to be friendly and nice and social, not so much now. I had to call the rangers on Saturday night because a group 5 spots down from me were playing music extremely loud and singing along with the music, sounded like a drunken bar. I was sitting around campfire trying to relax, knowing quiet time is 10pm. This was at 11:30pm. The lady I talk to said someone would be out. 45 minutes later I called back , said county would be out. I think I saw a sheriffs car but car drove past spot and never stopped at noisy spot, the noise continued to 1:00 am. Also the noisy spot had 6 vehicles parked at it. Rules state 2 vehicles. The spot across from me had 3 dogs, that continued to fight among themselves, owner continually yelling at them. Dogs were barking half the night all around me after 10pm. The spot beside me continually set his car horn off locking his car for 4 to 5 minutes laughing all the time. This was at 1am. I never saw a single ranger the entire time I was there. This is not an enjoyable place to camp anymore. I have other family members and friends that visit Deer Creek, but will second guess a visit after these events. I was staying in the older section in the wooded area. I hope someone takes notice of reviews like this one and does something to correct issues like these. My husband and I brought our 6yr. old granddaughter camping with us at the campground. She had her heart set on swimming but theres no pool at the campgrounds so we took her to the beach which we both remember as really nice from our own youth. We were both shocked and disappointed at the condition of the beach. It was filthy. Animal defication everywhere.Needless to say we could not use the beach.We then went to the lodge and asked to pay to use the pool .We were charged $31.00 for the 3 of us to use the pool for 1 day.That was on top of the cost of camping. read more

We stayed 3 nights at the Lodge at Deer Creek State Park for a family reunion. It's a shame that this beautiful lodge has deteriorated due to poor management and decreased funding. The lodge is filthy and poorly air conditioned. The same debris that was present on the hall and stair carpets when we checked in was still present when we checked out 3 days later. The furniture in our room was also covered with debris. Our bathroom had cracked and crumbling floor tiles and leaky sink fixtures. Our "room with a view" (which cost extra) overlooked the parking lot. Our sister-in-law's room had a stench so bad that her family had to switch rooms. Likewise, our brother in-law's family had to switch rooms because their air conditioning didn't work. Food in the restaurant was acceptable, but service was extremely slow due to understaffing. Our extended family has gathered at Deer Creek on and off since the early 1980's, but after this experience we will not return to this or any Xanterra managed property. read more
