Selected this restaurant/pub for our 1 night in London. Big hit. Not fancy, not deluxe. Very typical local pub. Menu was amazing. I don't know who was cooking, but he/she is a genius. We started with pints of the local beer on tap. Then sausage rolls and scotch eggs. I don't even know what a scotch egg is, but I want more. Then Fish and chips. Beautiful white fish fried in a perfect batter. Chips hot crisp and perfectly salted. Someone else in our party had shepherd's pie. Fluffy mashed potatoes and yummy gravy. The 3rd main we had was pork/apple/leek sausage on mashed potatoes. Dessert was Toffee sticky budding with Brandy butter ice cream. The food was hot and excellent. Just done visiting Buckingham Palace and was looking for lunch around there. Found "Buckingham Arms" just .3 mile walk away from the palace,not crowed at all but great food and great attitude from the bar peeps! Order and pay at the bar but sit wherever you like. I ordered fish n chips and was told it just came in fresh off the boat earlier that day. Very good and crispy fish, and peas that tasted like actual peas! We enjoyed are meal a lot!! This is a lovely pub in the St. James area. You can either stop in for a pint, have a snack, or eat a full meal. The bartender was very helpful in selecting our drink choices. We sat in the main bar area but you can also chose a small dining area. It's a great place to sit down and experience a delightful English pub. read more

Needing a break from our walking tour of Downtown London, my husband and I stopped here for a drink. One drink, we came for ONE drink... well, we stayed for about two hours and had 3 drinks. We LOVED the atmosphere, we people watched out the window and soaked up each other's company. This bar was so amazing that we shelved our remaining plans for the day until tomorrow and simply relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. We had dinner plans already, so we didn't order food, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. The drink list was fabulous! So many great wines and craft cocktails to choose from, there was something for all tastes. There were even whole families (including dogs) hanging out here. Awesome pub with very good pub food. The Meat Pie was off the hook awesome, Fish and Chips not bad too but the Mushy Peas needed salt. They have Chunky Chips and Thin Fries but you have to specify what you want when you place your order at the bar. PS Get really busy. Quite a short walk from Buckingham Palace on the south side of St. James' park. A narrow pub with a bit of standing room toward the front of the establishment. The back of the restaurant had a few tables against the walls. It was a warm, British place. Perhaps ask the staff what the kitchen has in stock before reviewing the menu. After all the time it took to decide, the first two options of mine weren't even an option that day. The food was HOT and filling. I can't say it was anything extraordinary, but it does the trick! We stopped here for lunch when we first arrived to London. On Sundays they serve roast lamb and beef traditional English fare. It's going to take a while for me to get used to the flat warm beer in England haha. Great spot. Certainly recommend. read more

This is a friendly and straightforward pub, which became our local when my partner and I lived in the area. We still drink there from time to time. The decor's nothing to excited over, but the real ale is good (Young's usual selection) and well kept, and they do good-value, traditional pub grub (lots of chips). It gets busy as a lunchtime and after-work venue for the Civil Servants in the surrounding offices, but it's usually an oasis on the week-ends. A nice place for a simple lunch after visiting Buckingham Palace. Visitors to London may like the street name: 'Petty France' being the Anglicised version of 'Petit France', apparently because of the large number of French merchants who lived there until the 17th century. read more

Located opposite the army hq this charming pub attracts a mixture of civil servants from the nearby ministry of justice building, army types and the odd tourist. Very well kept selection of Youngs ale with the odd guest (Hooky Ale from the Hook Norton Brewery on tap today) are served by pleasant and attentive staff. Authentic British pub in all ways. We happen to visit this pub at 5PM on the evening before Good Friday. The place was buzzing and bustling with all the after-work crowd catching up with friends before the long weekend. Thankfully, we were able to snag an open table for 2 in the narrow room/hallway behind the bar. Based on recommendations from another Yelp review, we ordered the Bangers & Mash and the Fish & Chips along with the some fine bitters from the tap. OMG, the bangers were snappy, tasty and perfectly dressed with a light gravy. I wish there was somewhere in the US that could do them this well. The more than ample serving of fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and moist, hot and tender within. A dash of malt vinegar was all that was needed to bring out the best flavor. You need to go to the bar to get service, but once you have their attention the experience is top notch. read more

Solid london pub tucked away behind some pretty busy streets. A local for employees of the MoJ, it can get pretty busy most nights after work -- but still great service. Lunchtime is very good, and rarely too busy to get a table. Standard pub food, but the rotating pie selection (currently chicken and leek) is usually pretty good, and the chips are tasty. Sausage and mash is recommended too. They serve London Stout too, which I highly recommend. read more

This is a pretty solid English boozer. I really wanted to write this review because they have yummy sausage rolls. I love sausage rolls. Yelp is saying this review is too short. So, I'll say sausage rolls a few more times. Just kidding, Yelp. They have a good bar food menu with some tasty looking burgers, scotch eggs and bags of pork scratchings behind the bar. Fun little pub located not too far from St James's Park and Buckingham Palace. Surprisingly not too overrun with tourists if you go in the evening. Decent beer selection, including some rotating handles that go beyond the usual London tap selections. And it offers some decent "munchie" food options at a reasonable price. We had the Buttermilk Chicken Strips with Bloody Mary Ketchup...not sure what was in the Bloody Mary Ketchup, but it was tasty! Also, because the pub is located across from the barracks, you tend to get quite a few of the Queen's Guard popping in for a pint or two in the evening...the place deserves an extra star just for the adorable eye candy! read more

A friendly and down-to-earth venue, popular with the Civil Servants who work in the area and tourists from nearby Buckingham Palace (but don't let that put you off). It's right opposite Wellington Barracks, but the soldiers seem not to drink here. (Maybe they are not allowed to?) It does the usual range of Young's and Well's beers, including Wells Bombardier, Young's Bitter & Special, and seasonal brews. They also do traditional pub grub, which is especially popular at lunchtimes. Dating from 1840, the interior features a large comfy lounge, and a rare surviving 'drinking corridor' used by the working classes in the 19th century. It's a Grade II listed building. read more

In the knowledge that this place had been in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide since its inception I made a pilgrimage and was well rewarded. It's a beautiful characterful place opposite Wellington Barracks and just down the road from the Ministry of Justice. We settled in the leather armchairs in the front window and admired the mirrors behind the bar and a very well-kept pint of Young's Bitter. This demands further investigation and we'll be back when we have more time. read more

Myself and a friend sat down on a Wednesday night for some grub. The bartender / waitress was most kind. Her positivity and jovial outlook on life in a pub was very much uplifting. The food was superb and the pints (although slightly on the cheap side) went down smoothly. My friend had the cod and chips (pleb) and I had the big and succulent beef burger. Solid pub in London we just stumbled across while we were walking to the palace looking for brunch. The bartender was awesome, she made sure our brunch order got in even though we were a few minutes late, and she made me a mimosa even though it wasn't on their menu. It's a stone's throw away from our rental apartment near Palmer Street. Barmen were helpful and friendly. They let us sample local beers before we each ordered a pint. Great pub food! Excellent service. We had the steak and ale pie, fish &chips, ham with eggs and chips, and a burger with, of course, a pint if bitters and cider. We came in when the rain poured down. In that situation you love always every pub. But I read a bit about this place and maybe expected too much. On the first glace, quite a nice almost cosy place. As it was pretty full, we soon learned that a private party was on. So it was in a friendly way suggested we should go to the side room separated from everything and everybody.
