The Hereford Arms was recommended by friends as a "pretty pub." And that it was...very pretty outside, very busy inside. We had reservations for the "restaurant" side of the pub. We arrived early which caused a little bit of a problem, but the staff solved that and put us at a bigger table with the strict instructions we must be done in 1.5 hours. Still, I think they were a little annoyed with us. I ordered the Fish and Chips which as delicious. A nice big portion with crispy fish and crispy chips (fries). Really (in my American pov) seemingly traditional local pub and restaurant. Had needed reservations for Boxing Day and the place was very lively, holiday-ish and a fun! Found this local spot in the neighborhood after the museum visit and was pleasantly surprised. Highly recommend the fish and chip. The fish portion was generous, and that haddock tasted amazing. I'm so happy I was able to experience my first Sunday roast here! Where do I start? The service was immaculate. The manager and staff were so friendly and attentive. They really made you feel like you were at a family members home having Sunday dinner. Now let's move on to the actual meal. The chicken was so tender and juicy, but actually, the cauliflower cheese was my favorite part. Nice portion side and steaming hot. They had a great selection of wine and served a nice pour. They have a pretty spacious area with one side accommodating the bar patrons with TVs and stools, and the other side for the people dinning in. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to accommodate us, which seemed to be the case for most folks. Overall, I would highly recommend and I myself, will be back on a Sunday! read more

We had a friends and family meal for six people. Good idea to book in advance. They pulled some very creamy pints of Guinness indeed. The food is traditional and surprisingly good. Take an extra Lipitor if you want to depart from the limited vegetarian options; they do offer hummus and lots of veg sides. read more

This is your basic English pub with a full on bar. The difference is that they serve dinners, and not just bar bites. Expect service to be slow, and best to go up to the bar to order/pay for your drinks so you don't have to wait for the wait help to take your order. We went for Sunday dinner which I heard is a tradition in London. Got a large plate of overcooked meat and traditional Yorkshire pudding. It came with large portions of cooked carrots, parsnips and cauliflower all smothered in brown gravy. I had the roast chicken (dry, overcooked) and my husband had the lamb shank (boiled, tender). The gravy was the same for both plates. The chap next to me ordered the fish and chips. It was a large portion of white fish, battered and deep fried. He said it was okay, but just a tad bit greasy. The gal next to me had the roast beef which were slices of well done meat. I was disappointed because it wasn't what I was expecting. Ordering and paying is done at the bar and then they bring your food to your table. -chicken liver parfait (9/10) -This was delicious. Served with 4 long crostini toasts and a side of a spiced, chunky apple jam. The liver parfait was light, creamy, and perfectly salted. Alone it was lonely but adding a tad of apple jam gave it a whole few flavor pairing. Would recommend! - Fish & chips (9/10) - Another must order. Huge slice of well cooked and flaky cod and batter was crispy all over and not too oily. Served with tartar sauce (house made, very good) and smashed peas (which were less mashed and more whole/chunky). Chips were crispy and fluffy. Would come back! - Cottage pie (6/10) - Not our favorite. We actually didn't finish and left half. Was a bit flavorless and badly needed salt and other seasonings. We came here by happenstance - killing some time walking around on our first day in London. The hospitality awaiting us from the bartender was impressive - she was very friendly, professional, and welcoming. As we were headed to afternoon tea, we didn't eat, but we did have a couple of pints. The beer was cold and tasty. The atmosphere here was good - the customers appeared very happy with their orders and the service. After traveling about 12 hours on a plane, this was heaven!!! The restaurant is quiet in the day time, but gets busy and loud at night. I would love to come back when I come back to London!!! My wife and I ate there this past Friday night. When we arrived the place was already packed, with all dinner seating at the tables taken. The host directed us to grab drinks at the bar and said he'd find us if a table happened to come available. Within 5 minutes of getting our pints he found us at the bar and brought us over to a table. We were not disappointed. I was staying at a hotel nearby and the concierge recommended this place to me when I asked for "a good place that serves fish & chips...and beer...lots of beer" - and voila! I ended up going back the next night after touristy stuff Odds & Ends They stop serving food at 10pm - barely made it, whew! They don't serve Tennent's Beer - boo! They do have Strongbow though - yay! They have live music the last Friday of the month - my good fortune it was the last Friday of the month! Food - the fish & chips (and peas) were plentiful and tasty. I ordered the chicken meat pie the next night at the waitresses recommendation and it was also very good. This place gets really packed when the game is playing, but it's a really fun place. This is a traditional pub that serves your typical British food, though I've only tried the drinks! The bartenders were friendly enough, and the beers were tasty and reasonably priced for the area. I tried a Rekorderlig, which is bottled but has is delicious if you're not really into the taste of alcohol. If you plan on eating here with more than two people, it'd be best to make a reservation to guarantee a table. Excellent atmosphere, service and drinks! We came in at the recommendation of our tour guide, after a long day of touring the country. We were greeted promptly and found a table near the bar. The place is clean and lively, and provided the exact atmosphere we were looking for in a British pub. We love that this is a Fullers pub, featuring the last independent brewery in London, and that the food utilized this charm (beer battered onion rings anyone?!). The onion rings and wings were fantastic and the brews were so good we wish we could have just stayed the whole night. I was here on a Monday afternoon so the atmosphere was sparse and probably not the best. I came based on other reviews but would not recommend myself. The bar staff is friendly but completely inattentive once you've purchased a drink, which would make sense if they were busy but they were very much not. if either the food or the service had been a little better, 3 stars. but both were really bad. I was shocked to see so many rave reviews, but when I looked, I realized that almost none of them were from people who lived in England. maybe those people don't really know what a good pub should be we came for Sunday roast. the beef was cheap and dry and overcooked. the yorkshire pudding was stale. we ordered a £50 bottle of wine and it came opened!! who does that? service was annoyingly bad. they brought the mains without clearing the starter plates so we had to stack them up until they came back. no one ever checked on us to see if we needed anything and we had to wave repeatedly at the host and waitress to get our check never going back read more

When I was in London, the tour director recommended this pub walking distance to the hotel. My friend and I went there for dinner one evening, and it was the best meal I had in London. I had fish and chips, but I got sweet potato wedges instead of the regular chips. It also came with mashed peas, which I found is a common side with fish and chips . The fish was melt in your mouth and the sides were delicious too. It was a large meal and I thought I wouldn't be able to finish it when I saw it put on my table, but once I started eating it, I gobbled it up.
