Summary: If attention to detail matters to you... Look elsewhere. The quality of work was sub-par and the grout they installed in our shower is failing after only 9 months. The Good: There were responsive in providing an estimate to take my money. The Bad: Basically everything else. The work was obviously sub-par given that grout is failing after only 9 months. The project started 2 weeks after estimated start date and finished 8 weeks after the estimated finish date. In fairness to the contractor, the building engineer caused 3 weeks of the finish time delay. At the final inspection we created a checklist of 6-8 items that needed correction (damaged paint, poor drywall work, damaged glass on the shower door, etc.). The next final inspection corrected 5 of the items and caused 2 new items worth of damage. Rinse and Repeat at least 2 more times. read more

I requested that Budget Right Kitchens come out to provide an estimate to renovate my bathroom and install new cabinets, and initially set up an appointment 10 days out. The night before my appointment, I get a request to reschedule without given a reason. We reschedule for a few days later. I meet Dirk Hoerr, who evaluates the scope of the project and tells me I should have an estimate a few days later. He seems like he knows what he's doing, but he doesn't take any measurements while he is there, and only spend about 20 minute with me at the home. A week goes by, and I have nothing from them. I give Dirk a call, who gives me this long-winded story about how I'm the 3rd person who didn't receive his estimate after emailing it, but he assures me that he sent it and just has to resend it. He asks for my contact info (which was already provided), and says it'll be over shortly. A few hours later, I receive the biggest joke of an estimate I've received from a contractor to date. Items are not broken down, but put in these general categories. Here is the estimate for the bathroom (a small, 5x8 room): 2 Floor Bathroom $7,500 Budget Right Kitchens Labor $1,500 Miscellaneous materials and expenses $1,500 Electrical "Allowance" (rough in labor and materials) $2,500 Plumbing "Allowance" (rough in labor and materials) $5,500 Plumbing stack replacement from 2nd Floor bathroom and kitchen to the roof $500 Install roof vent These costs are vague and seem high, so I email him back back asking questions - does this include all materials, what happens if I have my own electrical, etc. Eight days go by without a response, after which I send a follow-up requesting additional information. Here we are, nine days later after my follow-up and still no response. I'd hate to see what it is like to actually have this company working on my home, if this is how terrible they are during the sales process. read more

Dirk, Dan, Marcin and Derek were meticulous machines and professional, creative problem-solvers! They did a full gut remodel of our kitchen in ten weeks and I could not be happier with the experience (considering how disruptive such a huge project inherently is), and the outcome... Wow. They did deck work for me (as part of the outdoor extension of our kitchen), and I noticed after the fact that they had repaired seriously crumbling brick on one corner of our foundation. They just saw it needed repair and did it without charging beyond the scope of the kitchen budget. Their attention to detail has been noticed by friends and family. Ditto the prior reviewer's comments. HIRE THEM. They're working on a smaller project for us now and I'll use no one else on future projects. read more

I have just one important thing to say; all the rest is detail. HIRE THIS COMPANY. The quick synopsis: 1) Dirk said it would be a 10 week job. It was done in 10 weeks. 2) The guys came every day, worked hard, did high quality work with a good eye for details, didn't cut corners. 3) They answered phone calls and emails promptly and stayed on top of the inevitable issues that are going to come up in a 100+ year old house. 4) They conferred with us regularly to make sure we were getting things done the way we wanted. They had great ideas but were also receptive to hearing how we wanted things done. The details: Dirk assembled a top-notch team for our kitchen remodel. He and Dan have high standards, great ideas, and they run a tight ship. Derek, Igor, Dan, and Dirk all came to the house before the job started to confer with us and with each other to make sure the job would get done right and get done efficiently. They each gave us their proposals for their part of the job before any of the work began. Throughout the job, Dan checked in with us to make sure we were happy with the way things were going. No detail was too small to discuss. He made sure we had control over every part of the process. He and Dirk had good ideas that improved on our original plans, and when we had ideas they gave their honest opinion. But when I insisted on doing things my way (like not painting the ceiling white, or putting in an appliance garage that took up extra counter space) they didn't argue with me. Alex and Roman did the demolition and construction: walls, windows, sliding glass door, cabinets, closets, island. They showed up every day (sometimes even on Saturday!), worked hard, did very high quality work, and had a great eye for detail. Alex made a few changes, with our approval, that improved on our original ideas. We could tell he's not the kind of guy who just shows up to put in his time. He puts his best effort into everything, like a true artisan. Derek's team put in fantastic recessed lighting and pendulum lights over the kitchen island and dining room table. Derek checked in with us every step of the way to make sure we liked what he was doing, and he listened to our ideas and made changes when we requested them. He came over for a final check after all the lighting was in. Igor's team did the floor. In addition to putting a new floor in the main area, they redid the floor in our den. Our past contractor had patched the floor with the wrong color oak, and it looked like crap. When Igor's team was done, the floors looked liked something out of a magazine. The only hiccup we had was with the heat. They had to turn off the heat in the kitchen for a while, and the furnace went out. It took several days and multiple visits from the HVAC guy to get it fixed, and of course this happened during the coldest week of the winter. But Dan was on top of it the whole time. We called him more than once after 8 pm and on the weekend, and he always answered the phone or called us back immediately. In the past, we've had contractors who took a week to return a phone call. Dan's diligence was striking. Face it - every job will have unexpected challenges. If you want someone who will handle the challenge head-on and not give up until the problem is solved, Dan is your guy. Did I mention you should hire this company? This review is WAY overdue. They completed work with me 11/2017. Really enjoyed working with these guys. They remodeled our kitchen, added an addition, a bathroom, and second floor laundry. Performed structural work on house by adding steel support. I enjoyed everything. Dirk and Stephanie were always polite and responsive. Dan Ahmer was the main guy on the site and was one of the best communicators I've worked with in this industry. Usually you have to work for updates, but he was great. He also cautioned me on how to take things thoughtfully and slow. What they budgeted out was pretty close to where we landed, which again is a hallmark of a really good company. Budget Right did a complete kitchen gut and remodel, including removing an interior wall, and an exterior door which they walled up with matching exterior brick. They did new plumbing, electrical, cabinets, tile, backsplash, countertops, and appliance installation. 1. The salesman and foreman were smart, helpful, friendly, and not at all pushy. 2. Every one of the laborers, including the plumbing & electrical subcontractors, were friendly and considerate. 3. They all did great work. 4. Every question or concern that we had during the process was promptly addressed. 5. The final charges came out slightly under their estimate, which is always a nice surprise. read more

Bought a Groupon for $98.00 for 2 hours for painting a small basement but four hours later and only two walls painted and $50.00 additional for every hour guess what no such thing as a deal because he is not even close to finishing. He was 10 minutes late and he said this Groupon starts the moment he walks through the door. Well he had to run out to his car three times that took a half an hour , And its raining and he walked into my basement with wet shoes 3 time and i have beige carpet . I'm very upset, or should I say pissed. read more

I used a groupon to get a couple ceilings skimmed due to some water damage. I spoke with the scheduler (very nice guy) and he told me it would take two vists and a couple more hours than the Groupon's 2 hr limit to finish the job. So he said they would charge me the groupon rate for the extra hours, which is great. The repairman came and started in one room and left for the day ( I was not home during the process, but my babysitter was there). When I got home the room was plastered (not sanded- very rough corners not straight) nor were the other damaged areas touched. I was told that the rest will be completed the next day. So they next day they came and did the rest of the work to be done (again I was not home). I get home to check the work, the fiirst room was not touched again and the second room was plastered and again not sanded. There were bulges in the plaster and the corners were not straight. It was not completed just like the other room. There was also a final bill for the full price rather than Groupon rate which my babysitter fully paid. So I'm confused and upset that nothing was finished and I get a larger bill than expected. I call the repairman and left a message about the situation. He called us back leaving a message stating that he stands by his workmanship and that its all completed. Because of this message I decided that if that his best work I do not want him to come back out and fix it. I called the company and sent them pictures of the work and did not get a response back. So my wife calls the company and asks for our money back so that we can get it fixed by someone else. She gets Dirk, and according to her, he was very rude and condescending to her. Not offering any money back. Finally I decided to call get this straightened out. I speak with Dirk, the owner, and he says that he holds all of his workers accountable for their work and he is not going to refund our money, but will give us the difference of the overcharge from the Groupon. He will also send the same repairman out to get it fixed. I told him why would I want a guy that couldn't do it right the first time to come back out, especially when he thought that was quality work?? Dirk agreed that it wasn't finished and needed to more time to be completed and could not be done in the initial scheduled time. So why did the repairman say it was finished?? Dirk would not budge on a refund and said he can only get the same repairman to come back out. I gave in and agreed to have the repairman come back out. Dirk said he would call back to schedule it...HE NEVER CALLED BACK. I'm done with this company and decided to not even followup. My walls and celings are worse than they were before, too much time wasted with a stubborn company that does not care about their customers. PLEASE AVOID. read more

We had our porch repaired and painted. It turned out beautiful! The price was right and the service was above and beyond my expectations. They were on time, professional and got the job done in the timeframe we needed. I've had them back to put dimmer switches in my kitchen. They are my go to service company! read more
