This store never feels welcoming. The staff actively ignores some customers. I have decided to never shop there again.

This cute little store is hidden in an area I hadn't been before. Granted, I don't get to Oak Park often and when I do I'm usually driving down Harlem or along Lake Street. I didn't even know this parking and the additional shops were here. But since we parked here so I could wander a shop nearby, I saw this one as I was wrapping up my stroll. It looked like a home decor/interior decorating sort of store, which I love since I like to look at beautiful things and imagine how lovely my home could be if it wasn't a cluttered mess. It's kind of a hodgepodge of stuff, from gourmet food items to jewelry to photo frames and other decor. I found bailene brand sea salt, so I picked some up since I can't seem to find this brand in stores any longer. They also had a few different brands of fleur de sel, which I considered getting but held off since I'm trying to avoid extra things at the moment as I prepare to pack up a house. They had vinegar de Banyuls, which I like and have purchased before and would have if I could remember what I used it for but again am avoiding unnecessary items to pack. I was welcomed shortly after entering the store but not pressured or anything. As I wandered with both a shopping basket and three month old in my arms, one the employees said she was happy to help me shop since I had my hands full; though I didn't need the help, I appreciated her offer. And something that's kind of cool is that they offer glasses of wine for purchase as you shop! Nice touch in this classy joint. I'd definitely shop here again. They had some really beautiful things (I've filed them away for when I need a photo frame). They carry seasonal items as well, so I would love to visit once Halloween has passed to see what they carry for the winter holidays. read more

This store is such a joyful spot in Oak Park. I am a frequent visitor. There are lots of beautiful items for sale - gifts, scarves, jewelry My favorite section is the culinary section. There are quite a few cookbooks, cook's tools, and unique snacks. They also have fun items like lavender syrup. They have a wine section that is all reasonably priced and carefully selected brands. This store also frequently hosts wine tastings. Some times focus on a region and other times it's a grape. The champagne tasting in November is my favorite, I just signed up today. Lots of people from the community attend. I always seem to find really nice people to chat with. The wine events also have appetizers and desserts crafted by one of their managers. Always delicious. I came here to comment about how I've never been acknowledged once the various times I've gone into CarefulPeach. It's always empty and the women behind the counter aren't really doing anything so I don't get why there isn't even a "Hi, let us know how can help you!" But, now I'm reading through the comments here and...wow. I'm not white either, but I just took it as some blowoff like in Pretty Woman (if anyone remembers that movie). Like, maybe I wasn't dress nice enough to look like someone who would spend lots of bucks on overpriced soap and tablecloths. I'm not so sure now. In any case, the staff at this store needs to get its act together. It's rude and borderline discriminatory and they're losing customers because of it. read more

Great shop that has a smartly curated selection of great finds. You can pick up a gift for a birthday and get yourself a little something, too. I live in River Forest. I popped in this store to by a friend a candle. (I know she loves this store and it is a seasonal item.). I watched the sales people (a middle aged Caucasian man and woman) fall all over themselves asking other women In the store if they need help. I actually needed help, since I wanted a specific item, and I waited for some assistance. They both went out of their way to avoid eye contact. The only difference between myself and the other ladies in the store is that I'm not white (and that I ended up being the only customer to purchase something). I found the item (in the last corner of the store. $40 for a candle. If my friend hadn't wanted this specific item, I would have walked out. I relayed this story to my 17 year old daughter. She told me she went into the store with friends (all white) and the store personnel followed just her around the store as if she were going to steal something. I wish she had shared this with me earlier, I never would have gone there. Oak Park is a racially mixed area. Careful Peach needs to step up its game, do sensitivity training or something. read more

This place is charming and not your usual gift store. I shop here often when I need a hostess gift. There is wide price range, and the shop owner has wonderful suggestions. I am able to offer unique gifts with a lovely story for my friends and family. The store is always changing, so do not think it will be the same if you have already visited. The owners travel to France often and bring back their favorite finds, including unique wines. The wine selection also has a range of prices--from 14.00 for that Monday dinner to selective sparkling wines that make wonderful gifts. The owner is very approachable when asking about the wines. The staff will be honest if they do not know about the selection. There is never any judgement when you have a smaller budget. I read several reviews about the lack of customer service. When I first shopped here a couple years ago, I agree there was a reserve. I assumed this was cultural. In France it is often up to the customer to greet the shopkeepers--a simple "Bonjour." Otherwise, I assumed they were simply reserved and let customers shop without aggressively approaching them. However, everyone was always happy to help when I asked. Recently, I have noticed a more welcoming atmosphere and it has made the shop more cheery and warm. I like it! I am heading over today for a children's book as a gift (and maybe a bottle of wine for me!) read more

This is a lovely addition to the Oak Park shopping scene. I was told about this place by Carrie W. And glad she did. They have things you can't find anyplace else and it's well curated. They now sell some wine and sparking a nice touch. They also have a wedding registry. I found this most excellent tea towel and thought I would get it. Sure it's not inexpensive but if you want something, you want something. They have all sorts of things and if your in the mood for a bit of Paris come into this store. Lots of beautiful things! We just love this local boutique full of great gifts for your friends and you. We visit this store when we want to purchase beautiful and unique gifts that you will not find anywhere else. For example at Christmas we purchased a stunning tablecloth for a dear friend and she loved it! Recently I purchased some adorable French wallets for my nieces that grew up in Paris. Tonight we purchased a wonderful candle and two bottles of Rose'. We cracked open one of the bottles and it was delicious! Now more than ever is the time for all of us to support local businesses. I have been in this delightful boutique about five times. I LOVE the product! The owner does a fabulous job buying and selecting the merchandise. The bath products are oh. so. yummy. I have various kitchen accessories from here that brighten my day every time I use them. And rings made from spoons of Parisian cafes!!! J'adore! However... The one thing that doesn't brighten my day with this shop is the service. I have gone in too many times and not been greeted... or talked to... AT ALL. It's a small shop. To be in there with someone who didn't acknowledge me made me feel like... well, almost like an intruder. When I asked a question, I felt like I was interrupting the serious work that was being done on the computer at the cash wrap. I raved about this place to my girlfriends and took two of them here. The owner and staff member were so busy resetting the entry table that they didn't speak to us. It left a bad taste in my mouth. And really, actually, made me kinda sad. How can you ignore someone that is 2 feet away from you?! I loved this shop. I recommended it. I saved money to buy little things from here. But... So... I have followed this store from locations one to two to the most recent.... I LOVE this store and it inside and out. The newest locale is larger but still keeps that quaint... walking into another time or entering a fabulous French boutique feel. French linens, Hungarian glass goblets... perfect little note cards.. linen sprays and Meyer lemon scented candles... I could go on and on and on. I wanted to buy everything on my visit today! But instead of everything I found a small treasure that caught my eye and I could not walk away from it... it was meant for me... it was fate... a beautiful Rosemary branch pendant on a small delicate golden chain. (I love food, so this is just so fitting) The employees are very knowledgeable about everything in the store and all of the questions I had were answered.. even on a very very vintage asparagus jar I had eyed that was in the window. For a special occasion gift or if you just want to treat yourself... if you are a girly girl like me, please visit this store. I love the Careful Peach. This is an incredible shop. Definitely somewhere you want to bring your mom and sisters. It is pretty expensive, but that's only because it carries expensive items. I love walking past the window because the display is always incredible. Their current Christmas display is so inspiring. It makes me want to get my own house so badly! This store is just gorgeous. I have this obsession with wanting to go back to France ASAP and this store just fuels that desire. It is stocked with beautiful table settings, linen and decor, all reminiscent of France, or a countryside picnic, or a quaint inn, or a shabby chic apartment. Whatever your dream, the goods at Careful Peach are thoughtful, excellent quality and timeless. I liked that I was able to wander and look around without anyone hovering, and when a store patron acknowledged me it was with a friendly smile and hello. I have an irrational fear that I will topple over a table of china when I'm in stores like this so I can't stay near the dishes too long. So if you're like me, you're probably better off staying near the linens/tapestry. I wish I knew a kid that was interested in Madeline, because they had the cutest Madeline-inspired toys and books as well. As other folks mentioned, the items here are quite pricey. But like I said, the items are excellent quality and timeless, you'll definitely be making a good investment with these items. read more

I love the unique selection here and have shopped here regularly over the past couple years. It's my go-to place for special gifts for friends' engagements or birthdays. They have beautiful gift wrapping around the holidays. I've also purchased some lovely things for our home here-- a French cicada wall vase is my favorite. My friend's grandmother took us to the shop to look around. She was very excited to bring me here, as I had just spent five months studying in France. From what her grandmother explained, "everything in the store is imported from France," I had expected French chocolate and cookies and snacks and wine - basically, all of the items that I had loved while living in France, but couldn't get back in the United States. This is not what this store is! But I'll leave expectations aside. The store is pretty cute; it has a nice layout. It's open and spacious, which I like, especially in stores with such fragile items. I don't want to feel like I could break something every time I turn around. So that was a plus. What I was surprised to see was that the products they sell were mostly high-end, French items like dishware, soaps, and jams. No snack food. :( I believe they did have wine though! But I felt like most of this stuff could be found at any L'Occitane en Provence or other French boutiques. And most of it was very expensive. They had some really cool plates though with Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI's faces on them that I loved, but I definitely couldn't afford even one. The two girls working at the shop weren't as friendly as one would like. They weren't rude, but we felt a bit ignored. One was busy crunching numbers, and the other was sitting at a desk in the rear. My friend's grandmother was trying to chat with them, and they didn't seem like they were having it. She's been to the shop quite a few times and recommends it to others, so I just felt bad that they didn't seem to want to engage with her. Overall, it's a cute shop, but I don't think I could ever afford anything here. Nice to look around though. read more

Many colors and patterns to chose from but I would have to have a plastic cover or be a nervous wreck when ever I used it. I had a nice experience at Careful Peach. The store is well laid out, many soaps, baking ingredients, plates, silverware, jewelry, some snacks, table cloths, napkins, etc. The people at the store greeted me when I came in and asked if I needed any help. I took a while looking at everything and ended up buying candlesticks and beef jerky. One of the people at the store took time to explain the best way to make the candles last a long time. Very nice. One downside is this place is really expensive and they don't put price tags on anything. So you have to ask or get slammed with a big bill at the register. The purchase I made above of candlesticks (granted, they are really nice, quite large) and the jerky (granted, really good jerky) totaled $36. Yikes! read more

Location is great because there is ample parking. Some really nice finds here for the home. Soaps, lotions, a smattering of wine and champagnes (competitively priced no less). That said, this is not a dollar store, you will pay for your purchase but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for and if you are willing to pay you will definitely get your money's worth. read more

This is a beautiful shop with well-selected merchandise. They have a focus on French luxury goods. They have a kitchen/food section, bath/lotion products, elegant (expensive!) china, candles, decor, and some accessories. We had a great time browsing the shop. The employees were very friendly and helpful. The store is elegantly laid out, with lots of beautiful items to covet but unlikely to afford. I did purchase some nice home products which I thought were fairly priced for the quality. Parking is easy as there is a metered lot just out front of the shop. Brimming with imagination, and fueled by the delight that is Karen M, Careful Peach is an absolute joy to shop. The only obstacle to finding a gift for someone, is having to refrain from just shopping for yourself! Stopping by before dinner with my aunt and cousin, I quickly found perfect gifts. The Savon de Marseille Olive Soap, hand-monogrammed cards, and Mango Ginger and Lime Jam were not only adored hostess gifts, they were all a bargain at their price.
