He also treated my yard for a peony blight that had begun effecting not only my peonies, but other plants as well. I was so happy that he knew about this blight and how to apply what I'd bought at Portland Nursery as a cure. I trust Paithen's recommendations and knowledge. He also cut down and pulled out a relatively small espallied apple tree which was a difficult job, but he stuck with it! I found once it took me several calls to get a call back and get put on his schedule. I sensed they were very busy. Perhaps Spiral Tree needs to develop a more effective procedure for taking messages and returning calls. Paithen is a pleasure to work with as his quiet, knowledgeable way invokes confidence and trust.

Completely unprofessional, and with this impression they are giving at the inquiry stage it calls into great question how they would treat you if you actually hired them to do work. Probably equally bad at communication. Even if they did bother to eventually return calls or emails there would be no way they would ever be hired. We have two 100 feet+ Douglas Fir trees in our backyard (along with many others in the country club…read morenext door) and a recent wind storm sent a broken limb ("widow maker") either from higher in the same tree or from another tree. This limb was snagged within the tree and was precariously balanced over couple of the lower branches about 40 to 45 feet above the ground. To remove this hazard, I called 5 tree care specialist companies to obtain estimates. Some companies have such high minimum charge (over $500) that I had to eliminate them immediately. Moreover, these big operation companies were not interested in such a small scale job. Couple of other companies were more accommodating and also cheaper, yet I felt that the people I spoke to were not as knowledgeable and/or lacked professionalism. Also, I wanted to hire a company that uses spurless climbing so that there is no damage to the tree bark. Although Ward Tree Care was not the cheapest, I was impressed with the owner's (Chris Ward) professionalism and quick response and I hired him right away after receiving a written quote. In addition, the written quote was detailed and organized well so that there was no confusion as to the services to be rendered. Other company's quotes were mostly hand-written and lacked polish. The broken limb was taken care of by Jared and Adam; both of whom were courteous and efficient at their jobs. Furthermore, both guys gave me tips on how to prune some of the other trees in my garden. I wholeheartedly recommend this company for tree pruning and "widow maker" removal service. The company is not only efficient and knowledgeable about its business, but also seeing a guy being suspended high above with a single rope can be entertaining as well; it was as if I were watching a National Geographic documentary featuring a naturalist climbing giant Redwood trees.

I have a huge, very old magnolia tree in my front yard that a main branch snapped off of in the last major snow storm we had. The once-beautiful tree looked awful with a huge hole in the front foliage. Chris skillfully guided his crew in a pruning of the tree that has helped it grow back evenly. Now it is looking great. They have done several pruning projects for me, as well as a couple of tree removals. They do consistently excellent work, and I plan to continue using them in the future. I highly recommend Ward Tree Care for any kind of tree work.

It's very impressive to see how these giant branches were lowered with a pulley system to the ground... and none of the nearby neighbors houses were affected either. We were dreading having it removed after hearing neighborhood horror stories about flaky arborists and multi thousand dollar quotes. The recently demised tree was wedged between our house, our neighbors house and a power line; so I was terrified of it falling and incurring major damage. After almost a full year of procrastination I finally decided to deal with the dang thing. I checked out reviews for all the tree service contractors in the Portland Area I emailed and left messages with six different shops. Blue Sky was the first to respond and not only was Jason highly professional but his quote was more than reasonable. He gave me the option to file for the tree cutting permit myself to save money (which I appreciate I'm always trying to save a buck!) The permit office commented that the photos he provided expedited the process and made a point of telling me they appreciated his competence. After I obtained the permit he was able cut down the tree two days later!! Jason was amazing, he showed up when he said he would and worked his arse off for four hours not stopping once until my dead tree was completely leveled. Before he left he even considerately cleared my sidewalk and street of all debris. From start to finish I had a great experience with Blue Sky and spent WAY less than I expected to. AND I no longer have to worry about that tree crushing my house!!!
