Buena Vista Lake
Mercedes A H.

It's a beautiful lake and we have a great time here with family but the fact that the restrooms have no doors and super dirty make me not want to come back! It's the second time I come from the San Fernando valley. We pay an entrance fee but please at least pay someone to clean the restrooms .

Beautiful evenings.

Another relaxing week of lakeside living. We got the same spot we had a week ago. Loved it! Park is nice and quiet once again. That will certainly be changing with spring and summer around the corner. The park will be packed! Until then, we're enjoying our quiet & quality time together. Our next journey shortly awaits. Blessed

My family love to camp here. Great time and it is safe. It will be more fun if you have jet ski.

This is a winter review I was at this campground recreation center in January 2023, myself my truck camper and my two dogs. When you drive through the gate between 8 AM and 8 PM, you're met by a person who takes your information and you pay by card only no cash. They have overflow lot no power lots tent sites Pat in full power sites and I mean a lot. It looks like it's the least 100 and some slots for RVs and that's not including the no powerlines. There are trees here and it's shady the spot that I'm parked in however, in the summertime, it would be pretty hot here there's a beautiful lake that allows a certain type of boat and JetSki's on it Pets have to be on a leash but are allowed in the park. They have bathrooms and showers and it was well worth the $36 I paid for the full hook up. It's right off interstate five so you don't have to travel long distance it's a park. You may want to spend several days if you're a kayaker, but I'm just spending one night picnic tables and barbecue pit included well worth it

Only good for fishing

I've been here many times to camp, and honestly for all the $ they charge they should be able to fix the showers in the campground. At night there are no ranhers in sight at all, but during the day they seem to be very hot. They actually over exaggerate and try to ticket everyone they see!! People do not follow the rules at all. Bathrooms are in dire need of repair, showers are broken, fish cleaning stations waters ate also broken. Not to mention plenty of trash everywhere. BEWARE, but I guess u get what you pay for. Other than that we had fun fishing.

We have been coming here for over 7 years now. The lake front camping is fantastic! Its affordable and beautiful to wake up to. The water is warm and great for the whole family. There's a newly added basketball court, a playground for the kids and bathrooms/showers close by (they can be a little dirty but this is camping) i will continue to keep coming and will recommend this place to family and friends. And fyi just make sure youre here before 10pm to check in or you'll have to park far away before you can check in the next day for closer parking. Over all i love this place!!!

Spent a lovely Sunday on the lake with my family. Despite the near 100 degree weather, the steady breeze blowing all day, kept us from melting. This lake is our favorite lake to tool around in our boat. It takes only 20-25 minutes to get to from our house and it's a good size for a couple of laps and back. We try to hook up a spot by the launch pad, but on the weekend have to get there before 9am to do so. There is an overnight RV area that is not too shabby, I have been there before with friends. It has a playground area and swim area that's roped off. Of course, a separate area for JetSkis and a snack bar/store that I'm sure must be outrageously expensive for its convenience. We always enjoy bringing the family out for the day & this time was no exception. An EZ Up, some lawn chairs and many coolers with food and drink, and we are good 2 go...

Sunrise on a beautiful February morning.

This lake is beautiful. The flies are thick and the restrooms/showers are gross. The hook ups work and are maintained ok.

Gorgeous scenery. Get here before it gets hot as the lake dries up in summer and turns to salt. I…read morethought there were other lakes around but they were solar panel fields. Make sure you have plenty of gas, water and snacks. Nothing around for 20 miles. Mountain pass to come from Chevron's oil fields in Kettleman was stunning but very winding with hair pin turns amd a big altitude climb. Enjoy the scenery and take your time. Other side to go to or from ocean area is gorgeous as you go by lots of huge ranches that are amazing. Take your time, enjoy the peaceful scenery. Easy to go off edge of winding road. Soda Lake visitors center isn't much but personnel provide great info about lake and surrounding areas. No cost to enter but donations appreciated.

Soda Lake is not a lake full of soda!! Sorry!! Got to admit that would be something very special…read moreif it was. This place can be found at Carrizo Plain National Monument. We always stop by here when we are in the area on the hunt for some beautiful wildflower sightings. The overlook is a great vantage point to see Soda Lake and the surrounding landscape. We've only stopped by during springtime, and each time the views have been spectacular. Other times of the year, it is mostly brown and the lake dry. After a nice rainy season, though, there is likely to be very lovely blooms of wildflowers. The walk up the Soda Lake Overlook is not bad. Just about anyone can manage no matter what their age. It is also a good place to use the bathroom if you don't mind port a potties. There is parking for about a dozen cars too. At the boardwalk, there is also some parking. The walk to the boardwalk and edge of the lake is not too far. Nice easy stroll for all ages as well. Can get very hot cause there is no shade so be prepared to bring water and wear that sunblock. For the loveliest views, the best time to go is during Spring when the wildflowers appear. If you're lucky, then you might witness super blooms!!

Oh how I completely love the Kern River!! I have been going for 24 years. It has never been as…read morebeautiful and full as it is now. One of my dearest friends is a seasoned river rafter. When we go river rafting, we mainly stay @ Headquarters or Sandy Flat Campground. This past weekend, we stayed at Sandy Flat. It was amazing. It is right off the river. The river was full and had power. I will add official stats by this weekend. My favorite group of runs is called The Jungle. (I will fact check this). I think that a great run was called Dilly. It is a class 4!! OMGoodness, it was wild & fun. Once more rafters arrived we went on another run. I will get the official names. One is named ... something Deli. Anyways, EPIC FUN. I forgot my wetsuit. I just went on June 3rd. The water was C O L D. Our guide, Doug, told us NOT to bring our phones. I wish I would have remembered my Go - Pro. We were lucky that the 178 reopened for the drive home. It was 93 degrees. I was mesmerized by the river. I couldn't stop watching it on the drive home.

The Kern River is beautiful…read more This review is based on a first timers camping visit. Coming up here from San Diego we didn't really know what to expect other than we might have an opportunity to tube down the river. So everyone in our group brought river tubes. That was our first miscalculation. Aperently tubing depends on the season, recent weather conditions, and various natural events that really narrow the scope of when you can tube safety. Also consider how you plan to get back up to your campsite after you tube down the river a few miles.. Ideally you rent tubes from a company that also shuttles you back up the river. If you don't want to rent tubs someone in your group has to pick you up and drive you back, which is a pain. There is no cell service and no uber... The Kern River is best suited for kayaking and rafting. There are many companies in kernville that offer those services. Camping. If you're looking to camp along the river during the summer you need to think about booking in January. During our stay mid-June, the entire river was booked solid.. We stayed at Sandy Flats campgroup which had a small beach area by the river. Litter bugs. One of the most discouraging things to see along the river was the amount of trash that people leave behind. The number one item? Used diapers.. If you can manage to visit midweek, and be prepared to use a kayak/rafting company you will have an epic time. Note - Sequoia National Park is about an hours drive away. Makes for a great day trip.
