I've been coming to Buena Vista Lake since I was 16. It has always been a fun safe and family oriented place to stay. Camp sites are large and well kept. Its very outdoorsy and there are bugs but if you prepare you can really deter them. We spray our campsite upon arrival for ticks and fleas and roaches. We keep all food inside and clean up and throw away all trash. We don't use harsh led lights. We also jeep a low (one log) smoke fire going during the day as the smoke really helps keep em at bay but doesn't smoke out the campsite. Plus it smells good and makes it campier. Tips: bring outside sandals and watershoes. They have goat-head stickers that feel like tiny needles when stepped on and they are everywhere no matter how much to try to sweep. We have a no shoe policy in the rv so it really helps. Bring lots of bug spray for your person. Its a lake and there are lots of bugs. This place really is awesome for skiers. The rangers are serious about the safety and integrity of this place so of you're looking for a big party its not glamis. Go somewhere else. Cons: tent camping. Probably not the best place if its hot and muggy. You really need ac in these temps. The lake is a huge help but hey trailers are always better. The lake is slowly losing water level. But not by a whole lot. Maybe 5 feet in 20 years. So for boat owners with low props it could be a concern. The rangers are very vigilant. And while this isn't a con for me it could be for you. So mind your manners. A little goes a long way here. But if you want a good skiing lake this is the best place in Cali. read more

The state of decay of the restroom is unbelievable 3 days camping there not a single day did a maintenance person come by and clean it. When you pay for a service 130 dollars for camp ground plus parking fee almost 150 dollars total. It's really fucking upsetting mediocre people run this facility. no working sinks as well . read more

This is probably my favorite place to come and chill and fish with the family. It only costs $7 to enter, and there are a lot of places to park and set your canopy and chairs and fish poles at. It is so peaceful just sitting there. There are catfish, bass, trout, carp, blue gill, ect, and it's rare you won't catch. There are squirrels who will come close if you throw food on the floor. There are bathrooms close by. Just bring your own TP and sanitizer. There are trash cans. There are rangers who will drive around, so make sure you have your license on you. Kids under 16 years old fish for free! Bring bug spray and snacks. Hours go by so fast......hours your family can spend talking, laughing, taking selfies, getting bites, and catching fish. read more

Horrible experience place is dirty, grass is dead. Our campsite was next to a big hole they had dug up to fix the water line. Why rent the spot if u know it's a hazard. My kids could of fallen in at night or someone walking could have fall in???? And at night 1-2am these cops open our tent and flashed the light in it while everyone was asleep??? And the next day we asked the police on-site and they said they don't know anything about that?whaaaaaa what??? Do they just let random people walk in there and mess with camp sites ? read more

Now the place looks like a dump grass is dead, no shady trees, fire pits are dirty, tables have bird poop on it and the bathrooms are horrible. This is a precise and recent review on my stay at Buena Vista Lake. From the initial day of my reservation - which I accidentally reserved the wrong day - the staff was very courteous, kind, and professional. The gal at the lake entrance answered all my questions, provided me a map, and thoroughly explained the difference between the two lakes. While fishing the gentleman cleaning the facility 'gave me the inside scoop' on the fishing and was extremely courteous. The campsite #59 was extremely spacious and clean. The restrooms were a hop-skip-and-jump away and also clean. Sure, its an older lake and facility but you definitely cant beat the price. As a disabled patron I was pleased to see the Sheriffs presence and the staff security. On a good note, they gave you your space and let you do your thing - fish, barbeque, and camp. This is a winter review I was at this campground recreation center in January 2023, myself my truck camper and my two dogs. When you drive through the gate between 8 AM and 8 PM, you're met by a person who takes your information and you pay by card only no cash. They have overflow lot no power lots tent sites Pat in full power sites and I mean a lot. It looks like it's the least 100 and some slots for RVs and that's not including the no powerlines. There are trees here and it's shady the spot that I'm parked in however, in the summertime, it would be pretty hot here there's a beautiful lake that allows a certain type of boat and JetSki's on it Pets have to be on a leash but are allowed in the park. They have bathrooms and showers and it was well worth the $36 I paid for the full hook up. It's right off interstate five so you don't have to travel long distance it's a park. You may want to spend several days if you're a kayaker, but I'm just spending one night picnic tables and barbecue pit included well worth it read more

Too many flies. Like extreme amount of fly infestation. We were not able to enjoy our trip because the massive amount of flies. We spent a lot of time in our tent to avoid being covered in flies. I've been here many times to camp, and honestly for all the $ they charge they should be able to fix the showers in the campground. At night there are no ranhers in sight at all, but during the day they seem to be very hot. They actually over exaggerate and try to ticket everyone they see!! People do not follow the rules at all. Bathrooms are in dire need of repair, showers are broken, fish cleaning stations waters ate also broken. Not to mention plenty of trash everywhere. BEWARE, but I guess u get what you pay for. We have been coming here for over 7 years now. The lake front camping is fantastic! Its affordable and beautiful to wake up to. The water is warm and great for the whole family. There's a newly added basketball court, a playground for the kids and bathrooms/showers close by (they can be a little dirty but this is camping) i will continue to keep coming and will recommend this place to family and friends. And fyi just make sure youre here before 10pm to check in or you'll have to park far away before you can check in the next day for closer parking. Over all i love this place!!! read more

Spent a lovely Sunday on the lake with my family. Despite the near 100 degree weather, the steady breeze blowing all day, kept us from melting. This lake is our favorite lake to tool around in our boat. It takes only 20-25 minutes to get to from our house and it's a good size for a couple of laps and back. We try to hook up a spot by the launch pad, but on the weekend have to get there before 9am to do so. There is an overnight RV area that is not too shabby, I have been there before with friends. It has a playground area and swim area that's roped off. Of course, a separate area for JetSkis and a snack bar/store that I'm sure must be outrageously expensive for its convenience. Ok I'm going to only re-review because the front gate goes out of their way to make our experience amazing. First only camp after the first freeze and the flies die off or before the get bad when it warms up. Second don't come on a big weekend, spring break or the summer months because it is crowded with as I said in my past reviews with rude campers. Seriously no one that camps here has etiquette, or acts as if they've been taught basic manners. Up all night screaming until 3-4 in the morning. Dogs crapping all over the place. Walking through your campsite. We by all means are not people who go to bed at 10 but loud music and screaming after 2am is rude. And the flies are outrageous because of the human waste field that align the lake property and nearby dairy farms I'm assuming because it is unreal that your rig is covered with 100's of flies!!! But I cannot say more about the staff at the gate. We camp here a lot in the winter late fall months and they are the nicest people. Helpful friendly and make it so pleasant to come here and camp. Way to go Kern County, great employees!!! They've been a little better on trying to keep up on cleaning up the campsites and if I call the gate they will send maintenance out right away. read more

Been coming to lake Webb for over thirty years. This place used to be awesome. Last 10 years it's really gone down hill. We used to have some of our best vacations hear when our kids were young but now it's really run down and kind of shady. First time camping at this location, and all was fine until the sprinklers went off at our assigned camping location. What stupidity to assign areas for camping where the automatic sprinklers come on. All our our tents were open so all our beds were wet. When advised the employee (Susan) on duty the next morning, her reply was "didn't anyone tell you about the sprinklers". How dumb can a place of camping be, to assign locations like that. And to make things worst, we are in a drought and here they had 5 sprinklers going for 1 hour. Shouldn't they be fined ? Will never camp here again or visit this place again. We love this lake! We have a jet boat and a jet ski. Launching is easy and never over crowded. There are plenty of areas to day camp as well as regular camp sites. The people we have met have been all different types of people but they all have one thing in common that is enjoying a day in the water without bothering their neighbor to the right or left of them. read more

This is my favorite place to go camping, I love it so much. It's so gorgeous here and peaceful. The lake is never too crowded (even around holidays) it's never too crowded to the point where you couldn't take your boat into the water. The camp sites are super nice. Would be nice to have some kind of mosquito control at this lake!! I can't believe how invested it is and there is nothing being done. The bathrooms were so invested the kids couldn't go in at all. Luckily someone had bug spray and went in and sprayed. There were so many mosquitos in the bathroom that it almost turned the sink and toilet black from how many fell on the white porcelain!! Great place to take your boat and camp, we visit almost every year! The good things about this place is that you can launch your boat with little, to no one around and pull up to your waterfront camp site. get in and out to play on the water whenever you want, you have your own area to swim and play, they have a playground for the kids. Full hookups for your RV or Trailer, or if you tent the camp spots are big and open with fire pits and most of them have tables. we've only stayed in the waterfront spots and my only complaint would be that the BUGS are out of control! but that might be because of the water being so close. read more

We recently visited the lake on 4/14-4/15 with our son and daughter in law and grandkids and her brothers which was Sunday and Monday. Approximately 1 1/2 hours after we arrived they unloaded a couple quads and chained them to a tree cause they had a toy hauler and forgot they were in there, anyway unloaded them to make the beds in back of trailer and the boat patrol pulled up and said we need to get those off the ground. My son told him that "Rex" who is a ranger there said that are fine there and from that point on the boat patrol guy had an attitude. He started cussing and yelling at us for not reason saying he didn't give a f#*k what Rex said and continues to to yell and use a few other choice words towards us in front of kids and everyone. So my son and I started to walk away and my son said have a nice day and the patrol guy said, "what did you say" two times like we said something rude and my son said I said have a nice day and the patrol guy said ya that's what I thought and drove off. He was very rude, disrespectful, and had no reguard of the children or his foul language. We found out like 4-5 hours after my wife and I left cause we just there for the day that the same boat patrol guy got into a fight with some campers. "IM SURE CAUSE OF HIS ATTITUDE". This was our first time at this lake.I kept seen reviews where everyone talked about the lake been muddy and if it stinks blah blah. No! It doesn't stink. No! Is not muddy! Yes bathrooms and showers are not clean (go do your business and get the hell out) I took my own toilet paper and clorox wipes(stop complaining make your life easier) I almost didn't go to this lake because some reviews (most of them bad) were talking about wholes in the ground and roaches and flies. Yes I saw a couple of flies (literally a couple) 1 roach (literally 1) and yes wholes in the ground. Is a lake not a resort your talking about nature not a room with ac. Overall I will be coming back, I loved it, my family loved it. I took 1 star because of the restrooms. You can rent a jet ski for 85 and hr. OKay first I need to begin letting every person here know that this lake is actually called Lake Webb. Lake Buena Vista isn't a place in California. Buena Vista Aquatic Center, OTH is a place connected to Lake Webb. It really doesn't matter unless you tell someone to Google directions to BV which isn't a thing.... know from personal experience :[ I lived in Bfield for years as a child and have lived here for almost two years since I moved back. In my entire life I have been to BV twice. My first trip was so many years ago I can't remember it. Yesterday I went for a "fun day at the lake" with some friends. I had no intentions of enjoying myself. I was mentally bitching about how trash would be everywhere and it would smell nasty. Whelp, that didn't happen. The water is murky and dirty, yeah, but surprisingly I saw no trash and it didn't smell like garbage like I expected it to. I planned to hide in the center of the boat to avoid in the slightest chance of the contaminated water touching me but ended up jumping in full force! I did keep my mouth shut as tight as possible and cover my lips with my hands to avoid any option for the water touching my tongue which didn't really work out. The water tastes the same as when you accidentally get mud in your mouth. Imagine jumping in a giant mud puddle. That is Lake Webb aka BV: one giant mud puddle- not quite a swamp but not quite a lake or river. read more

My family has been camping here since I was a kid. We have two jet skis, and love to take them to this lake to ride around on the water. The campsites are nice.
