I bought a framed "BUFFALO" photographer that spells BUFFALO out of different cropped landmarks (such as the Richardson-Olmsted Complex, etc). I kept hearing their name…read more It seemed that everywhere I went 464 Gallery was mentioned, had a place card, or someone was talking about it. My first "exposure" to it was actually at another opening at the Burchfield, I mentioned that I had been to a show in NYC and the conversation quickly turned to "Have you seen what's up now at 464?" I had not, was not even sure where to find 464 Gallery. I heard about the owner, Marcus, during that conversation. That he was focused on providing a space for shows, but also a space for artists to work, 464 Studio. Sadly, I did not go and seek out 464 then. I should have. I read about them next in ARTVoice one week, and thought again I have to go to this place. Then I saw the address and realized it was located on Amherst, just near Wegmans & Lucys, both places I frequent. Then I went to City of Light and talked to an artist who has an upcoming show at 464. And saw that they were major influences at the Silo City event as well. Then they were at Elmwood Art Festival. And I saw the sign for the new spot called Glow on Allen, which opens in a few weeks. Off I went, finally. Found parking, easily, on the street. It's a nice space on Amherst, 2 rooms, lots of different artists work for sale when I went. Some I liked, some not as much, but all local and all interesting in some way. Marcus happened to be there and so we chatted for some time. He opened a few years ago in Blackrock. He said that he does a lot of "events" and the like, which is where a lot of his business comes from, not to mention that fact that his Gallery is on everyone's tongue. Like me he has noticed how much Blackrock is picking up, even in the past year, and hes thrilled by that of course. He lives in the area as well. Galleries can be very hit or miss. You like the show or you don't. Its really that simple. Hes done it a little differently, his gallery does shows, does events, and sells pieces from locals. He does a little of everything. I'm looking forward to going to Glow in a few weeks for an event there as well. I go to a lot of Galleries, large and small, wherever I happen to find myself. I have always enjoyed them. This is one that is committed to the city, the craft, the artists and the community. Its really a "whole package" kind of place, and that's really nice. Marcus is himself a photographer, but he does show other artists' photography in his space. He is an incubator of talent in many ways. He promotes himself of course, but he promotes others as well. Overall this is a Gallery to watch, and I'm sure Glow (on Allen) will be as well.

The K Art Gallery just opened to the public, and is a "Native American owned commercial art gallery…read morewith a primary and robust focus on national-level Native contemporary artists." It's the first of its kind in the U.S. The art gallery spans over two floors, and is also used as a shared workspace. For the shared workspaces, there is table seating (with dividers), offices, and a video conference room. It would feel great to work in a space like this surrounded by art, I would feel very creative and inspired! I came with a friend to see the current exhibit titled "More than a Trace". Currently, you need to book a reservation online prior to visiting, and sign a covid waiver upon entry. There is no admission charge. Although I checked out some of the art in the exhibition on their website prior to visiting, I really enjoyed seeing it up close and having the chance to reflect on each piece. Although this is contemporary art, there were a few pieces that had strong historical ties, including the Treaty of the Seneca, and Antipode (Study in Dusty Rose). Overall I would highly recommend visiting this gallery if you enjoy art, and the opportunity to see work by contemporary Native American artists. Also, I'd like to give a special thank you to Sophia, who was incredibly friendly and made us feel welcomed!

The selection for paint-a-pot was smaller than expected, but we were still able to find items to work on and had a good time. One thing that could definitely improve was the guidance and instructions provided. I noticed some groups received detailed explanations while others, including mine, received very little direction, and it didn't seem to relate to age or gender. They allowed each person to choose 6 colors of paint. My only complaint was the color choices were limited, you could only choose the paints with the black dots, but we made it work. They supplied everything one would need. We were there for so long we seen a shift change, lol! But both workers were so nice! Overall, the place was clean, they had enough tables and chairs for everyone, and they even hold parties or events. Our pieces look a little dull currently but we will be back in approx. 1-3 weeks for our finished, bright and glossy plates! We will definitely be returning and recommending this place!

They have free and low cost art classes for kids and adults…read more Each season, they have a selection of scheduled structured classes for which you can register for a small fee. Those classes very season to season- pen and ink animals, print making, special ceramics projects, photography, etc. I took a 3 session Monet class, a figure drawing class, and an intro to pottery wheel class for a fraction of what other clay studios charge. My Monet ended up hanging in the lobby. Each season, they also have open art studio time - kids drawing, teen/adult drawing and painting, ceramics, senior sessions, and more. Three week days and Saturdays the center is open and you can work on your own projects with an instructor on hand for questions or advice. All the materials are provided. Everything is free with suggested donation amounts. This is such a wonderful asset to our community.
