The views are stunning, but the hours of the park do not coincide with sunrise. I drove over an hour to get here and watch the sunrise, and the gates were locked. I didn't think to check the hours...that's my fault. I found some amazing spots along the way to pull over and snap pictures, I'm just bummed that I wasn't able to see the grave area or lookout spot.

Epic location and view. Very informative museums and memorial. I learned a lot and a lot of new information about Buffalo Bill I didn't know before. I have lived in Denver for 4 years and I found about this through Josh Gates show Expedition Unknown. This is must visit for the museums, the video inside, the view if the Rockies and the view if the front range.

Amazing history and preservation of Americana culture and a fun spot to spend quality analog time with friends or family. A Coloradan's institution to be preserved for future generations! Amazing place to bring out of town's guests or for a date as well if you enjoy history and cultural heritage! It was especially touching to see so many artifacts connecting my home land (Italy) to this larger than life character and confirming its influence on pop culture.

Seeing how this was only five dollars per adult. I am giving this place five stars. They are amazing views from every direction of the parking lot. The walk up to the gravesite is minimal and you can avoid satisfies staying on the ramp. I love all the informational placards. The gift shop and restaurant was closed right now. The museum took about 45 minutes to an hour because we really spent our time looking at things and reading about his travels. We also watched the movie when you first get there and then watched a little bit of the TV monitor showing the wild West showthat he put on in the late 1800s in early 1900s. The staff is very friendly. Good for all ages.

Shout out to Jacqui who was awesome at her job! Jacqui advised us of all of the cool history to look out for while touring as well as, to check out the small movie presentation that's offered. We enjoyed shopping in the gift store, as well as, attended the Wild wild west Museum and went on a Tour there. The museum is attached to the lookout Mountain scenic area and is also attached to a restaurant. Buffalo Bill's story was interesting. He chose to be buried here in which hiis burial is in a nice gated area. The headstone is huge and surrounded with coins. Humans toss money into the cemetery to honor and respect the dead. We learned about the history of Buffalo Bill which was fun and interesting. Afterwards, we enjoyed a real picnic at the picnic tables wth our store bought items. I love picnics

What a beautiful drive it was up Lookout Mountain Rd to get here! I'm sure it would have been more ideal had it not been raining and hailing! The elevation here is 7,375 ft. I parked in the free to use parking lot just outside of the museum. I walked towards the telescopes and took in the scenery! Then, I headed to the door pointing the way to the museum. This is not the main entrance, but it lead me to it. I handed the gentleman my $5 Admission Fee and went on the self-guided tour through the museum. TIP: Their Summer & Winter Hours are different. Be sure to check before cementing your plans to visit. This museum is chock full of memorabilia & artifacts! William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody was born in Iowa. He had quite an adventurous life! He became famous when a novelist wrote a book about him. The museum contains items like weapons, a likeness of his favorite horse (Isham), a taxidermied buffalo, a room that plays a video, Indian Headdresses, uniforms, posters, and more! He founded Buffalo Bill's Wild West in 1883 and it lasted until 1915. A large area of the museum is dedicated to this. There are huge posters and lots of pictures. Chief Sitting Bull was his friend and was briefly a part of his shows. He had women performers doing the same stunts as the men. He met & hired Phoebe Ann Mosey in New Orleans. Do you know who she was? She's better known as Annie Oakley. She was a talented sharpshooter and stayed with the show for 16 years. Calamity Jane was also in the shows for a while! What I found interesting: The Wild West Show was invited to perform in England in 1887 as part of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee celebration. Buffalo Bill Cody was invited to have tea with Oscar Wilde. He promoted the use of clay pigeons during exhibition shooting rather than live birds. They had pelts from three animals. You could touch them and read about the animals. Buffalo Bill got his nickname from hunting and providing meat for the railroad workers. There's a book which asks, "Did Buffalo Bill visit your town?" He was well traveled! He made it to Los Angeles five time! He was also in Pasadena and Long Beach, but those are recorded separately. On to the gravesite. It's up the path sitting on the hill. I made the short trek up here in the rain. I couldn't leave here without seeing it! Just before the gravesite is a plaque denoting the National Pony Express Centennial Association 1860-61 to 1960-61. He had joined the Pony Express in 1860. At the gravesite are actually 2 graves. One for William Cody and one for Louisa Maud Cody, his wife. They were married for 51 years. It appears Master Mason Col. William F. Cody was a Mason since there's also a plaque labeled the Masonic Lodges of Colorado. Buffalo Bill picked quite a peaceful place! Between the museum and the gravesite is the Pahaska Tepee Gift Shop & Cafe. Pahaska means "Long Hair" and was Cody's Sioux name. There's a real Pahaska Tepee (hunting lodge) is in Cody, Wyoming; it is two miles from Yellowstone National Park's east entrance. I went to the gift shop after going to the gravesite. I looked around at all the knick-knacks & souvenirs. I took pictures because those are free and won't add clutter to my physical world. In hindsight, I probably should have bought a magnet for my collection. Oh well, I have memories. If you get the chance to come here, I'd say you should! It was well worth the trip up the mountain! I took the Lariat Loop National Scenic Byway to Golden afterwards. Golden is such a charming place to visit!

What a great adventure and great cost for a museum. The view from the grave site and the observation deck was breath taking. Worth the drive and the time. Especially if you are a fan of the old west and Buffalo Bill Cody.

One of the many things to do when you travel out west to Golden Colorado is visit the resting place of Buffalo Bill. The museum is filled with displays of this man's life and his burial spot is located on the mountain with a lovely memorial plaque. The area is quietly lovely, a hush over the land when the snow falls. Truly something you have to see to appreciate.

Great, inexpensive place to check out if youre exploring the area. The museum is inexpensive (only $5) and has a nice gift shop and a great lookout. I came here after exploring Red rock and wasn't too far away and made for a great weekend trip. Definitely recommend!

The Buffalo Bill museum is a great place to visit. Everett is the docent that greeted me and he is beyond cool and more than helpful! I left feeling much more connected to the American west and also deeply saddened with the tragedies of the time.

very very nice museum which outlines the entire life of Buffalo bill. Him in the war, as a hunter, and as an entertainer. A video of his life and even binders of locations he performed at were also displayed. $5 admission... you can't beat that! It also had a beautiful view of the mountains behind it

    View from lookout area.

Affordable admission and lots of memorabilia. The staff was really nice and although the museum wasn't very large it was informative and well laid out. It centered around his life with a main focus of the Wild West show.

Social distancing and face masks are required. It's $5 to enter the museum and it was worth it. We saw a huge bison, portraits, artifacts and maps of Buffalo Bills history. Everything you want to know about Buffalo Bill, is here including his gravesite.

Museum was great. Gift shop leaves a lot to be desired. Staff was abrupt and rude. Selection was sub-par for a museum gift shop.

I came for candlelit yoga. Yoga itself was enjoyable. There was a gentleman playing live music and we were all encouraged to work at our own levels wherever that may be. The instructor was pleasant and encouraging. I found her voice to be calming when I could hear it. However, there was a speed-dating event scheduled at the same time so there was a constant din of conversation noise that was loud. I have hearing issues and that level of ambient noise made it difficult for me to hear the yoga instructor even with her having a microphone. The interior of the venue is filled with installations from local artists. I would like to come back for just a social gathering. I think it would be great for that.

We had 5 pm reservations but went in closer to 6 pm, after having visited their onsite bar, the Night Owl. Their craft cocktails were great and on par with craft cocktail pricing. The staff were all really accommodating and friendly. They didn't bat an eye when we asked about timing: can we grab a drink before we go in? Sure! And the experience itself? Super creative, attention to detail all over the place. And, there are differing levels of a scavenger hunt just to make things even more interesting. The exhibits change every so often so if you haven't been to this one, def go before a new installation is added.

We had an extremely helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and funny guide who walked us through a few of the exhibits and then left us alone to look around, watch the videos, listen to audio and read the numerous displays. After hiking my first two 14ers this fall, I have even more of an interest in and appreciation for the incredible outdoor adventures our state has to offer, and this museum gives a great glimpse into them all, as well as some outside our fair state. The large 3D model of Everest was super cool and the info about each 14er was helpful. To read that a family with four children, one as young as 8, summited them all in just a few months really made my jaw drop! Dang. You can learn all about the unique aspects of our climate, types of geology, hypothermia, altitude sickness, the 10th Mountain Division, ice climbing, female outdoor pioneers and more. There is a portaledge set up to check out and a bunch of other displays of real live equipment and artifacts. I think my favorite things I read were all of the quotes sprinkled throughout that talked about the inspiration people take from these outdoor pursuits, and the indescribable feeling one gets from a summit, any summit. Colorado is a very special place and this museum definitely left me feeling so lucky to live here, and maybe a little more willing to take on some risk and adventure. If that also strikes your fancy, you can walk upstairs to the Colorado Mountain Club and get info about the many outdoor classes they offer, like I did :)

The Bradford Washburn American Mountaineering Museum is the largest museum devoted to…read moremountaineering in the Western Hemisphere, and one of the very largest in the entire world. The museum is a little-known gem in Colorado and deserves greater exposure. The museum is a joint project of the American Alpine Club and the Colorado Mountain Club, and also features photographs and material provided by the National Geographic Society. Its mission is "to inspire in our visitors a greater appreciation for the mountains and for mountaineering, in all of its facets, including the cultural and inspirational qualities of the mountains and the sport; to help in the cause to preserve the mountains and the history of mountaineering; to educate our visitors and in so doing enhance their enjoyment and safety in the mountains." The museum is quite beautiful and is a good venue for a quarter-day or half-day in Golden, which itself is a very interesting place to visit with many other local museums and places of interest. The museum has an interesting collection of permanent displays and artifacts, including some of the most well-known artifacts in the history of mountaineering, as well as temporary exhibits and videos. It has a gigantic 3D model of Mt. Everest that shows the various routes to the top. There's also a display of Tenth Mountain Division equipment. There are numerous full-size mannequins with original equipment from - among other things - the first American expedition to summit Mt. Everest, some of the most famous Colorado mountaineers of the early 1900s. It's really interesting to see how technology and techniques have progressed in mountaineering. The museum does contain displays and hands-on exhibits that are of interest to younger kids, including a cool "crevasse" that they can jump over, and a hanging ledge shelter that they can hole up in. There's also a gift shop called the "Base Camp." Visitors should check the website at mountaineeringmuseum.org to make sure of the current hours and to learn about the latest exhibits.
