If you admire quilts, from a casual to avid interest, there's lots to like here. Bright, modern gallery with changing quilt exhibits and a gift shop (much more space than old location in downtown Golden). The selection of modern and historic quilts on display during my visit provided an interesting contrast. A very friendly and helpful docent was giving a tour. They also offer classes. Worth a visit.

This quilt museum is rad. I estimate their total gallery space is less than 2000 ft.². The bathrooms are clean and plentiful. The gift shop features a wide selection of fabric by the bolt. I recommend you visit if only for a short time

Since Quilting is a form of art, I viewed this more as an art collection rather than a museum. They had many quilts on display. I believe the quilts where made by a small group of woman on a small Asian Pacific island near Japan. This was the majority of items on display in the larger room, the docent said there was quilts in the smaller back room that were of the American civil war era. When I looked at them they seemed to be reproductions with a photo next to them of the original. This is understandable since a quilt from the civil war era would be very valuable and not be hung loosely and unguarded. Overall I found this place interesting and the ladies at the front desk were friendly and accommodating.

This museum is divided up in a business building, so that you go from the front display room, down the hall to another display room, and across the hall to two different store fronts, if you want to purchase anything. They have many new and used quilts for sale. Open M-Sat, 10am to 4pm, Sun noon to 4pm. Price $6 for adults. The exhibit itself currently features different quilting styles, from the traditional to very innovative. One exhibit is Sisters in Cloth: works by African-American textile artists. In that exhibit, one quilt caught my eye: done by a woman who got breast cancer and survived in memory of her daughter who also got breast cancer, but succumbed. Another quilt was an appliqued portrait of Bobby McFerrin, who wrote the song, "Dont' Worry, Be Happy." The other exhibit was Pre-1840 Bed Coverings by the Amerian Quilt Study Group. The exhibits change, so if you go there, you may be treated to a whole different experience.

Perfectly good waste of the $6 admission price. I don't think this can be fairly called a museum as much as one dude's collection, many of which were acquired from EBay. They even had a quilt made by him on display. Why, you ask? Damned good question. Maybe to show you that dudes who collect quilts can make them too. It obviously had absolutely zero historical significance. The guide was very nice, but was bored and eager to make small talk and chat. Us? Not so much, but she didn't pick up on the signals, and anything more blatant seemed rude, so we rolled with it. They want your name and address when you enter, which I think is a bit intrusive. So I made up some info but accurately provided my state.

I love this little museum. I didn't think I'd enjoy the visit, but the place is just charming, the staff is friendly and it was fun.

I came for candlelit yoga. Yoga itself was enjoyable. There was a gentleman playing live music and we were all encouraged to work at our own levels wherever that may be. The instructor was pleasant and encouraging. I found her voice to be calming when I could hear it. However, there was a speed-dating event scheduled at the same time so there was a constant din of conversation noise that was loud. I have hearing issues and that level of ambient noise made it difficult for me to hear the yoga instructor even with her having a microphone. The interior of the venue is filled with installations from local artists. I would like to come back for just a social gathering. I think it would be great for that.

We had 5 pm reservations but went in closer to 6 pm, after having visited their onsite bar, the Night Owl. Their craft cocktails were great and on par with craft cocktail pricing. The staff were all really accommodating and friendly. They didn't bat an eye when we asked about timing: can we grab a drink before we go in? Sure! And the experience itself? Super creative, attention to detail all over the place. And, there are differing levels of a scavenger hunt just to make things even more interesting. The exhibits change every so often so if you haven't been to this one, def go before a new installation is added.

We had an extremely helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and funny guide who walked us through a few of the exhibits and then left us alone to look around, watch the videos, listen to audio and read the numerous displays. After hiking my first two 14ers this fall, I have even more of an interest in and appreciation for the incredible outdoor adventures our state has to offer, and this museum gives a great glimpse into them all, as well as some outside our fair state. The large 3D model of Everest was super cool and the info about each 14er was helpful. To read that a family with four children, one as young as 8, summited them all in just a few months really made my jaw drop! Dang. You can learn all about the unique aspects of our climate, types of geology, hypothermia, altitude sickness, the 10th Mountain Division, ice climbing, female outdoor pioneers and more. There is a portaledge set up to check out and a bunch of other displays of real live equipment and artifacts. I think my favorite things I read were all of the quotes sprinkled throughout that talked about the inspiration people take from these outdoor pursuits, and the indescribable feeling one gets from a summit, any summit. Colorado is a very special place and this museum definitely left me feeling so lucky to live here, and maybe a little more willing to take on some risk and adventure. If that also strikes your fancy, you can walk upstairs to the Colorado Mountain Club and get info about the many outdoor classes they offer, like I did :)

The museum is a little-known gem in Colorado and deserves greater exposure. The museum is a joint project of the American Alpine Club and the Colorado Mountain Club, and also features photographs and material provided by the National Geographic Society. Its mission is "to inspire in our visitors a greater appreciation for the mountains and for mountaineering, in all of its facets, including the cultural and inspirational qualities of the mountains and the sport; to help in the cause to preserve the mountains and the history of mountaineering; to educate our visitors and in so doing enhance their enjoyment and safety in the mountains." The museum is quite beautiful and is a good venue for a quarter-day or half-day in Golden, which itself is a very interesting place to visit with many other local museums and places of interest. The museum has an interesting collection of permanent displays and artifacts, including some of the most well-known artifacts in the history of mountaineering, as well as temporary exhibits and videos. It has a gigantic 3D model of Mt. Everest that shows the various routes to the top. There's also a display of Tenth Mountain Division equipment. There are numerous full-size mannequins with original equipment from - among other things - the first American expedition to summit Mt. Everest, some of the most famous Colorado mountaineers of the early 1900s. It's really interesting to see how technology and techniques have progressed in mountaineering. The museum does contain displays and hands-on exhibits that are of interest to younger kids, including a cool "crevasse" that they can jump over, and a hanging ledge shelter that they can hole up in. There's also a gift shop called the "Base Camp." Visitors should check the website at mountaineeringmuseum.org to make sure of the current hours and to learn about the latest exhibits.
