I didn't want to slap together a few words of encouragement and leave it at that... I want to convey to you just how wonderful this place is. The first thing that strikes you about the Velo Bright is how much it seems to offer in such a small area. Renovated and expanded this place is warm, stylish and inviting. We were given a code (ala AirBnB style) and this gave us 24 hour access to the building and our room. Nice and easy. Our first room (more on that later) was small but functional, warm and very stylish. But it was the bathroom and shower that blew us away and you will be no different. No picture will do this shower justice and it is very clear that a lot of care and attention has been poured into the design and finish of this boudoir. Flourishes like tiles that extend up the wall and over your head, clearly not necessary, make it obvious that this was designed to be enjoyed and as well as be functional. We made our way to the bar and was struck by how warm and cosy it was what with its use of wood and exposed beams. The beautiful open fire and plush furnishings also helped us enjoy a beer that was, after a long drive, essential. It was then we were approach by the manager who, seemingly for no reason, offered to upgrade our room simply because we were the only guests that night. This second room was much larger with a living area as well as bedroom but an even bigger version of the incredible shower from the previous room. This room went onto enhance an already wonderful experience. Dinner at the restaurant was very since and the staff friendly and accomodating. But it was when we went to leave that the bar manager struck up a conversation that lead him to open the whisky bar - just for us - so we could enjoy a whiskey in private. The staff at the Velo are friendly and make you feel at home and while it could be argued this is what they are supposed to do, it is their flexibility and imagination that make this a very special place. They go outside the square to give you the best possible stay whether that be for one night or ten. I would happily drive to Bright just to stay there again... it really was that special.

This motor inn turned out to be a stand out accommodation choice! We were really happy with every…read moreaspect from the friendly staff at reception to the omg sink in the kitchenette of our twin room. The heater worked really well which was a major plus in the middle of a very cold winter. The location was easy to find, and if we'd wanted to we could easily have walked into e heart of Wangaratta to dine or to visit a pub. Parking was available directly outside the room and I felt fine leaving my car there. The room was spacious, clean and had an awesome view overlooking the park. Hence the name. The beds were super comfy with plenty of pillows to choose from. The telly was easy to use (sometimes you need to read the instructions to get them going) and most importantly I felt really safe in the room. There was a safety door chain with a sign urging us to use it for our safety. We pre booked which was easy and check out was quick and easy too. The only negative was that there was a bit of noise after 10.30pm from guests upstairs. Not too bad though. The motor in provided a number of extra touches such as sweet biscuits which we had for breakfast, a pa met of coffee for the plunger and a corkscrew. (It is the wine region after all.) I really liked this motor inn and recommend it highly.

Yeah, I can't say that it was one of the greatest, and the beer selection is somewhat limited, which suspects that they are really only trying to appeal to those who happen to live in or near the area, and the older generation at that. I might fit into that generation, but then again I'm also a city bloke who writes Yelp reviews, so that probably says a lot about my tastes.

The Hibernian is a strange name for a pub. The name implies cold winters that are better spent sleeping off than living in. The pub though, with also includes dining area and live bands on weekends, shows no sign of sleep deprivation. The cramped drinking area spews on the path and seating under corrugated iron - a wonderful sound on a hot rainy night. The dining bistro stylings of the rest of it are a little on the tacky RSL side, but not so much that it gets in the way of the fine pub food and social interactivity of le people. Have the Parma!!!
