Because they fight for the rights of all, not just immigrants. This annual fundraiser brings all sorts of Buffalonians together - those who've lived here their whole lives and some who came last week. It's price point is low, making it available for all. The event has food from around the world, so again, everyone will find something they like. They have various restaurants, from the Canadians making poutine to the Japanese with raw fish to chocolates from the native Buffalonians. Also, Chinese, Burmese, ice cream (Italian?), and more. There are also plenty of things available to purchase for yourself or gifts. All sorts of fun ethnic gifts from various shops around town. Great annual event.

I love that you can try new places (e.g., we found a new German restaurant) or try different dishes from old favorites (e.g., Sun Restaurant) - where I usually get the pad thai but in the future will also be rotating in the delicious black rice dish. The event is nice in that there are a lot of options that your average person may not have experienced (e.g., Burmese, Ethiopian) mixed with things that are more mainstream - like potato pancakes from Germany or poutine from Canada. The only thing that keeps this event from being a 5-start is the seating situation. The event has gained in popularity and it can be hard to juggle the food. There are maybe half a dozen large round tables with chairs and another half dozen to a dozen cocktail tables. People who come with groups stake them out and stay the night. Even if the seat is empty it is not uncommon to be told that it is taken. Some of the dishes you can eat standing up but others (e.g., soup) are hard to eat without some sort of surface. (Thus, the lack of food photos from me...) I love that you get a map of the world and that you get stamped at each location you visit. Every year we try to make it to all the stops but there is always too much food to quite pull it off - even with some sharing. All around, a great event!

Honestly at first I thought 'go to a senior center?' why would I go to a place like that? I thought it was something for 'old' people. Ha ha, well it is for 55 and older but certainly not what I originally thought. Besides the numerous clubs covering everything from dinner, traveling, hiking, books, cards, tai chi, etc, there are also special events. We've recently attended a few cooking classes. The speakers and entertainment are great. Last summer's concert series ended with Boys of Summer. I'd be surprised if you came in and didnt find something you liked. But if that happens they're also open to any new ideas you have. If you want to teach a class they'd like that also. Have I mentioned the staff? Everyone there is super friendly and welcoming. I kept catching her in lies, and then she would play the victim role. Nothing about her says professionalism. She would actually write false information in my chart so she could look good, even though she was quite mentally and verbally abusive behind close door. When I made a complaint to CEO Cindy Voelker, she informed me that Melissa was a great friend of hers, and I need to stop the complaint. I choose not to, and the CEO immediately stopped me from attending. I was still attending to have access to my medications. I guess she doesn't believe in leaving friendship at the door. I feel totally retraumatized. Working with Melissa Farrell, made me feel like I was back in a crazy abusive and controlling situation. If only I could put no stars.

It helps to arrange and fund refugees in starting up their own small businesses - restaurants and clothing shops, for example - inside the West Side Bazaar. It is the kind of organization which gives a genuine possibility to the realization of the American Dream. No stop that runaway imagination of yours! :) It's not a place where you will get indoctrinated into a religious group or be subject to a cult like environment. The meditation group meets Thursdays at 7 pm and is currently running their practice once a week at the Jung Center. The sitting meditation is led by a trained group lead who guides the participants through 2 sessions of 30 minute sessions where the participant sits in a meditation pose and concentrates on a focal point and focus on gentle breathing. There is an intermission of 10 minutes where the group walks to improves circulation before sitting for the second sitting session. The evening is closed with a selected 4 minute passage from a book on meditation, mindfulness or Buddhist theme and followed by tea and light socialization for anyone wishing to linger and enjoy company. Every now and then there are workshops that are organized. This is a very welcoming group and I thank Jenny for her warm introduction. This group is a mixed bag of demographics: young 20's to 60's and different religious affiliations. You do not need to be Buddhist to participate in drop in sitting meditation; you just need an open-mind and a desire to improve your mindfulness and ultimately quality of life. You should plan on arriving 15 minutes early to receive an introduction to sitting poses and breathing technique if you are visiting for the first time. Second Sunday- morning, they offer a longer session of meditation (Nyinthun) to deepen our practice. Third Thursday - After the regular one hour of sitting and walking meditation, a DVD or audio dharma talk is offered by one of the Shambhala teachers.

I wanted a simple lettering added to an existing stone,…read morea polishing of the stone, and to put it back secelurely on the base as it had slipped off slightly. I paid $850 in May 2020. It took me calling multiple times to have the base placed and wasn't done until October. Many more calls later to get the letters completed in December. I called again just before Christmas to be told he didn't know of my job and he would have to speak to his son and call me back. I have yet to get a return phone call and the polishing has not been completed. Do not ever trust this place in your time of mourning and don't trust them with your money.
