Finding this school was truly a blessing. The teachers love the kids and facilities and outdoor space are wonderful. The outdoor yard is big and grassy (real grass) so the kids can just run, run, run. It makes a difference that the teachers and aides see the children as a blessing from God rather than just a job that pays the bills. My 3 year old talks about how nice Mrs. Ambrose and Mrs. Gabb are. During the week off of school, she started to ask when school was coming back. My little girl knows how to pray and they go to a 10 minute chapel service every Wednesday. It's all so wonderful and adorable. We, like you I'm sure, had toured many schools. We looked at Young Minds, New World Montessori, St Johns, Bright Horizons, and others. Of all the schools we looked at we had a pro and cons list. For Building Blocks, it was all Pro's! read more

My daughter has been at BBCA for two years and I can't say enough positive things about it. I toured a lot of preschools within the area and ultimately decided to send my daughter here because the environment is warm and welcoming, the outdoor space is colorful with a large grassy area, the classroom is clean, organized, and filled with colorful artwork. The teachers are engaged with the kids, they really know each child, and they are so creative with their lesson plans. The school is play based, but my daughter is starting to read, she's writing and spelling words, she's understanding math concepts (counting, adding, patterns, comparison), and her social-emotional development is supported in a nurturing way. The school is great at organizing small events for holidays and for the community. One of our favorites was the snow day where they brought in a snow truck and filled the grassy area for kids to play in. Highly recommend touring the school! read more

Our 4.5 year old is in her 2nd year at Building Blocks now. It has been a great experience and I highly recommend anyone with a young child to make an appointment for a tour. It's evident that all of the teachers enjoy teaching and being present each day. The fact that they truly care for each child makes a big difference. I was shocked at our 1st parent-teacher conference to see the work that was being done and that the teachers cater to each child differently depending on the child's personality. It feels like the parent is involved and what is taught at school is reinforced at home and vice versa. The community of parents and families are open and fun to be around. There are special events on campus for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and other holidays. The classrooms are spacious and clean. I thought it to be ingenious that once the blue cots for nap time are spread out, they have cardboard box-dividers to ensure that the children don't see each other and get rest. Hot lunch is available through an outside caterer. My daughter loves the times that she gets the "hot dog with ketchup!" lunch. We started in Jan. 2023 and we LOVE it here at BBCA. Such a welcoming, warm family of staff and teachers and students. They play, teach you all about kindness, being gentle, respectful, independent and confident. You learn to express your feelings, your concerns, your wants and your needs, and celebrate your accomplishments along the way. My child gained skills beyond all my expectations and she just thrives here. They help students cope, they guide parents, they offer lessons beyond the classroom settings for all the kiddos. We LOVE Building Blocks! We had heard great things from friends who attended so when we were looking for a preschool for our 2.5 year old son we made sure to put Building Blocks on the top of our list. Initially I was impressed by the facilities--safe, spacious, AND AN AWESOME PLAYGROUND! And as time went on we saw that the teachers are all committed to the development of the whole child. They strike a great balance of play based learning. My son really enjoys the activities and lessons from the Bible stories to the art activities. There's a great ratio of teachers to students. The students are broken up into age level groups for age appropriate development but they also get to play across age levels at times. I always feel safe and confident that my son is in good hands when I drop him off. The kids have a ton of fun and I feel like my son will be very well prepared for kindergarten. read more

As a healthcare worker in this pandemic, I am glad I found a safe haven for my daughter. We started during the toughest times in the pandemic, but the school and everyone there were and are still very diligent in following the Covid guidelines and all public health safety measures. Their efforts are not wasted because after hearing a lot of my patient's stories of Covid cases and closures at other schools, I feel blessed I didn't have to experience any of that chaos. My daughter is thriving and it's so cute catching her pray or sing new songs that she have learned at school. The director herself and all the teachers are so committed, loving, and so patient. These past 2 years are probably the most trying and exhausting time to be in education, and they have really gone above and beyond for the kids. Building Blocks is truly a gem. I can't rave enough about Building Blocks! We've had two children go through preschool here and it has been a great joy to be part of their community! The LA preschool scene can be surprisingly intense and we were so happy to find BBCA, which feels like a "normal," happy, loving preschool and community. I always tell people "if Daniel Tiger's preschool came to life, it would be BBCA." The teachers are both nurturing and educational, and it's so easy to trust leaving our children in their care. Their clear and organized communication has excelled from the very first tour through 3+ years we've been here. During Covid, the staff and teachers went above and beyond to continue education in appropriate and safe ways. They worked to accommodate all families' needs and made us feel so cared for during this very chaotic time. We had to decide whether we were going to pursue preschool for our twin boys during the global pandemic in 2020 and it was a very difficult decision as no one knew the right answer. As parents who struggled working remotely at home, we decided it was best to ease them in to it part-time. The BBCA team were diligent in following all the Covid guidelines and necessary precautions and we quickly went from 2 half days a week to 5 full days a week. This is our 2nd year enrolled, and our boys are still very happy and thriving (and knock on wood- haven't really caught any illnesses). We highly recommend Building Blocks and all their lovely teachers! Pros: 1. Huge, bright, covered, lovely outdoor area with all the things 2. Teachers are super warm, conscientious, and most importantly very patient. 3. Classroom is well maintained with different play + learning areas that get routinely switched up. 4. My daughter started at Building Blocks this fall at 2 1/2. I was a bit anxious as to how she would adapt to school. I have been amazed at how much she LOVES school. The teachers are all patient, kind and so experienced. I have been so impressed with the program. This is not a daycare-it is an educational program. My son just graduated from Building Blocks and it's such a bitter sweet moment. He attended the school only for one year and I so wished we would sign him up earlier. The whole year, it felt like the preschool always made an extra step in caring for kids, fun activities, tending to parents questions, etc. And I have an older child, so yes, I do compare) I was completely sold, when I came to pick my son up on Halloween and the teacher told me he spilled soy sauce on his white costume and she WASHED IT, so he could wear it for trick-or-treating in the evening! And that's how the school functions overall, they are not there just to watch the child from 8am-12pm, they are there to help them thrive! Choosing a preschool was by far one of the most painstaking decisions we've had to make as parents. And with good reason. It's the place where our precious children spend nearly 10 hours a day five days a week during the most formative years of their lives. We toured nearly a dozen schools (!) and spent substantial amounts of time evaluating each. It's been more than three months since we started our daughter at Building Blocks and we couldn't be happier with this school and its amazing teachers who go above and beyond every single day. Our daughter even asks to go to school on the weekends! For starters, the facility is new, bright and welcoming. The classroom has very high ceilings, is maintained well by the staff, and it is just the perfectly bright and cheerful atmosphere you'd want your child to be in. If you've been touring preschools on the westside, you'll know that the majority are located in antiquated buildings, with older (concerning) paint, smelly carpet and old toys and books that should have been replaced at least a few years ago. Building Blocks was a refreshing change. The outdoor play area is so spacious and safe, which was also a top priority for us. We deeply appreciate how our child has not gotten sick or injured ever since she started at this school. All of the teachers enforce hand washing often throughout the day. The school's director Kaylen is strict about vaccination schedules and we love it. It protects everyone. Kids wash their hands all day and the teachers are thorough about post-potty cleanliness. During the outdoor recess time, all of the teachers actively watch the kids so they don't get injured and they reinforce playing kindly with each other. THE MOST IMPORTANT deciding factor for us was the school's amazing teachers and leadership. Every single teacher and teacher's aide at Building Blocks are so loving, conscientious, smart and genuinely kindhearted. They work tirelessly from morning until the end of the day and they truly nurture these kids with loving care. It shows in our kids' bright energy and laughter. During her nightly bedtime prayers, our daughter thanks God for her teachers by name. There could be no better, stronger validation of how great a school is than that. The director is so wonderful and very helpful, quick to answer any questions I have. The teachers are well trained, kind and patient. My daughter comes home excited to tell us all about her friends, teachers and whatever new Bible story, educational concept or song she's learned that day. This facility is new and beautiful and the director is great. There is a great student to teacher ratio and they are very kind to my son, an active 3-year-old. He has learned so much with them and I am so happy that I finally found them. I had VERY BAD experiences with two pre-ks - chalk preschool westwood, and El Segundo Co-op and was feeling very discouraged. They arre 1000% better than those others and treat me and my child with respect and I have seen they honestly care about us. My husband and I are true believers of this precious gem of a school. Our daughter came to this school at 3 years old, as a fluent Spanish speaker. The way the Director, and teachers nurtured our little girl was one we will never forget. Our little girl blossomed, and is well on her way to start kindergarten. She is happy, confident, and is doing quite well learning and improving daily. The teachers are very well trained, and make every effort to connect with each child in a unique way. Lastly, and most importantly, our daughter's foundation in Christ grew exponentially during her time at BBCA. The teachers do such a great job at teaching the kids both academically (I admit, I didn't think that they would learn that much in preschool!) and also just to be kind, wonderful people! The pastor is extremely kind and good with the kids, and they do a very good job of making the religious programming age appropriate so that my daughter comes home happily singing songs and telling us the stories she has learned. When my daughter had a tough time going back to school after being with us all winter break, the teachers were so patient and caring until she was back on her routine. We have sent 2 children to Building Blocks and have been so grateful for our experience there. At first I was a bit unsure about having mixed ages together, but now that we've experienced it, it is clear that it works wonderfully. The teachers regroup kids based on their individual needs and get to know each child so well so they are able to meet them where they are at and support their developmental growth. The facilities are great and very clean. Kids wash their hands frequently and surfaces are wiped down often, so we've been pleasantly surprised how sickness doesn't spread much amongst one of the germ-iest age groups :) The teachers are so amazing and loving. My kiddos adore them. The educational approach is based on the latest research and teachers continue to pursue professional development to stay up to date. The preschool program fluctuates between slightly more structured time led by a teacher to student-directed free and creative play throughout the day. The kids are supported with social-emotional-cognitive development and learn how to solve their own problems over time (with teacher support as needed). They also are gently guided along with core values from the Christian faith. Teachers are easy to talk to about anything and you get full parent-teacher conferences twice a year to hear how your child is developing and growing.
