Such incredible teachers and staff that make our beloved boy feel safe, loved, and cared for. They're so creative with all their lessons, organized with weekly themes, prompt to respond anytime we have questions or concerns, and very engaged with each child. Our parent/teacher conference was so encouraging to know that the things we see and the things we teach align with how the teachers here encourage our child. As a mother of three, I've experienced a variety of early education environments--and I can confidently say that our experience at St. John has been exceptional. From the moment we walked through the doors, we felt a warm, welcoming atmosphere that immediately put both us and our child at ease. My son is especially blessed to be in the Yellow Room. A wonderful school filled with kind, thoughtful teachers and staff. While there is no set curriculum, the play-based learning structure is so beneficial for little minds, as they can learn based on what they are interested in that week. Since my three year old enrolled a year ago, he has improved cognitively, verbally, and physically (i.e. fine motor skills). All the teachers are fantastic and nurturing, and they take time to know all the students enrolled (not just the students in their assigned classrooms). My son absolutely adores all the teachers and staff. The administrative side of the school is very hands on with the kids, and Mrs. Brittany and Ms. Abby make the admissions welcoming and communicative. The school has an on-site security team as well, and an enclosed campus, with doors and gates that automatically shut and lock for added security. I cannot recommend this school enough! read more

I highly recommend St. John's Nursery School! The play-based learning and outdoor space are fantastic. My son has been going there for almost two years and loves the experience. The teachers and staff are nurturing, and he has really blossomed over the past year, from being a shy child at first to becoming a sweet, fun-loving kid! Now he knows how to write his name, alphabets, numbers, etc. It's bittersweet he'll be graduating and going to TK next, but I'm planning to send my second child to St. John's in a year or two. Sadly, St. John's was a disappointment. Preschool should be a magical first experience for children (and parents) in a loving + learning environment, but this was far from the case. A glorified daycare, there was concerning lack of communication from the onset and teachers could not answer basic questions about our child, even five months into the school year. Under the new Director -- it's evident St. John's has gone downhill, and far from what it once was years ago. We urge parents to explore other preschools across LA where children are truly seen and nurtured during these formative years. read more

We are finishing our 4th year at St. Johns and can't say enough wonderful things. We have had two children complete their preschool years there and both flourished there. The communication has been wonderful with the staff and refurbishments to the school grounds in the past two years have made it a really wonderful space. As an occupational therapist I have been very happy with focus on play-based learning and sensory focused activities. Our daughter comes home filthy every day in the best ways- the evidence of nature based play that help her thrive. The school has done an amazing job at hosting holiday activities, special events and the space/location feel very rooted in the community. We love the Nursery School! The other parents and I joke that we'd keep our kids here until college if we could. My daughter attended the year before Kinder and my son is currently enrolled. My son was so excited when the school opened back up after COVID- he really missed his teachers and friends! The entire staff is incredible. Everyone knows your child's name, and they truly care about his/her development. I love how the teachers keep you informed on what went on during the day. The ample outdoor space (with grass!) is such a bonus. read more

I absolutely love St John's Preschool! We moved here from out of state when my son was 3. After his first full week at St. John's, I picked him up from school and without prompting he sighed and said, "Mom, I *love* my new school!" It warmed my heart since he had never said that about his former day care. Both of my kids went here and loved every minute. They have a play-based model that lets kids be kids while they learn to play with other children, listen during story time, make crafts, share toys, and sing songs. The teachers are truly kind and patient people and foster that environment for the kids. I noticed more kind behavior at home as a result of what they learned at St. John's as well as tried and true phrases like "sharing is caring." The preschool is very responsive to parents' questions and needs. Even the most minor incident on the playground and they would send a note home to keep us in the loop. With changing schedules or family needs, they were always very responsive and accommodating. The size of the school makes them very child-focused, treating each child with nurture and respect. I cannot speak highly enough about this school! I wish my kids hadn't aged out! read more

My nephew attends St. Johns. This was the first fulltime preschool my sister signed-up for after going to part time drop- in daycares around LA. In choosing this school my family was interested in diversity, price, and size of outdoor space. St. Johns playground and also their park in front of the church is one of the nicest we've ever seen in LA. My nephew loves to be outdoors and preschools are such germ factories this was a key factor. He's had a lovely time and has become potty trained, learned to count, and his letters. We've been to the family barbecues and love the community feeling. Very hard to find anything like this in LA. read more

Our daughter attended during the covid pandemic and we were so impressed with the care that the staff took to ensure a safe environment for the kids. Our daughter still talks about how she enjoyed her time even two years later. She attended as a 3/4 year old and we found it really helped her to be ready for elementary school the following year! Our 3 year old son has been here for about 8 months now and comes home daily with a smile and countless stories of what he learned and did that day. Our daughter attends St. John's Nursery School and absolutely loves it- as do we. The director Hanne is warm, kind, and extremely experienced. Laura who runs the office is always organized, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the running of the preschool. Our daughter's teachers were amazing. She had a really difficult time separating in the beginning but by the end of the year, she could not WAIT to get to school. The pricing is also very reasonable and there are a lot of time slot options to choose from which is nice. The classrooms are impeccably clean and the playground is really nice with two play structures, a huge sand pit, and a track for tricycles (helmets required of course!). My daughter attended this school for almost one year before covid kicked in. We loved the school and everything it offers. Nice playground and outdoor area to stimulate the students. I love the fact that the school is play based. Based on observation, my daughter comes home more interested in learning than when I tried to force feed her any subject matters. She's always happy and she learned to wash her hands properly, apologize, and be considerate in sharing and complimenting. She became more creative and enjoys crafts. The teachers here are amazing and keep you in the loop on what topics are covered and what students are doing. I love all the singing and creative works the school enables the students to complete. Mrs. Sample, ms. Chelsea were both great to my little one. I would recommend this school to any momma and the school is very flexible with their schedules and pricing is very reasonable for this area. Our son attended St. John's from age 3 until he started TK and we can't speak highly enough about the experience. It is a warm, loving environment that really feels like family. Our son bonded closely with his teachers, the preschool director and his classmates. There is a strong play-based, age-appropriate curriculum for learning that prepared him well socially and academically for TK & kindergarten. The activities and themes are well planned out with thought and attention to detail. There is also a wonderful balance of indoor classroom learning and outdoor time in the beautiful play yard. The preschool provides an introduction to faith and spirituality in an inclusive environment, which was not a requirement for us, but a nice bonus. St. John's really does support an environment of kindness and respect for others, where we always felt surrounded by very nice parents and kids. There are many fun events to celebrate holidays and bring the families together at school (i.e. Christmas performance, Mother's Day tea, Father's Day bbq, fall fest/thanksgiving celebration, summer water play days). We are lucky to have made some great friends. There is consistent, clear communication between the teachers/staff and families, and we always felt that our input was heard. There are also small class sizes with great teacher:student ratios so we never felt like a number and always felt like our son was getting great attention. Our child has been attending St. John's Nursery School for approx 8 months now and we couldn't be happier with the care provided. As I am sure most parents are, we were nervous to send our child to somewhere new where we had no personal recommendations. We live in the Palms area and had driven past it several times, finally reaching out to inquire more and I am so glad we did. Brittany the director is energetic and passionate about what she does. She is very involved in the classrooms each day as well as providing parents with frequent communication. Each of the teachers that have cared for our child have been exceptional as has Abby the office manager/assistant. There are several parent/teacher meetings per year that are helpful in discussing how everything is going and our child's strengths/needs of improvement. The teachers and director are also happy to chat daily at drop off and pick up about any concerns or exciting things that are going on. They have been very patient in helping our child through potty training. There are also so many opportunities for parents to be involved and volunteer and they are always putting on a fun activity whether it be a Valentine's Day dance or a fall chili cookoff/party. The teachers provide weekly lesson plans that are very detailed as to what they have been doing that week and will be doing the following week. My daughter has been attending this school for past 1.5 years and we are absolutely in love with it. The school yard/facilities are very welcoming and great for children to have fun. Teachers are very caring & experienced, and do their best to give the sense of comfort and community to both children and parents. And while providing a very warm environment for children to come in and have fun, the school also seems to provide very well organized curriculum for kids to learn new things, focusing on new themes on a weekly/biweekly basis. Prior to covid, the school also provided quite a few opportunities for families to come in and experience & be part of the community. Now with covid, that had to go away for now. Nevertheless, the school and faculty are doing great job to provide the safest and comforting environment as they can, and thanks to their great efforts, I see my daughter and her friends still able to have fun and learn during this pandemic, while being kept safe and following safety standards without being stressed out at all. My daughter has been attending for a little over a year and she has benefited so much from the kind, fun, and creative environment the teachers and staff at St. John's have provided. She loves going to school and is always happy when we pick her up. She is always really excited to share with us the art-work and creative projects they did at school. Most importantly, the teachers and staff are so kind and thoughtful and really do provide a warm and enriching place for her to learn and grow. The price of school is also incredibly reasonable, almost less than half of what other schools cost. The school also offers in-house TK which is super helpful. Location is very convenient. The play area is also awesome and they have a nice grassy field where they can do activities. Since Covid hit, they have implemented all of the required precautions and somehow my daughter has learned to keep her mask on all day which is a miracle in itself. They have a new website which is really helpful. The school isn't very well known, but for those who do have children attending, is extremely loved and cherished. We sent our children here and it was a wonderful experience. We originally were drawn to the school by their gorgeous mulberry tree at the heart of the really inviting play-yard. but soon after taking to Hanne- We realized the school was so much more than an awesome, outdoor play area. It was such a special time and great experience for us and our kids. The teachers are amazing and really know how to connect with kids. The office ladies are also the best. Our kids learned social skills and began their journey to loving school and excelling at learning... all thanks to the foundations of learning through play and well laid out themes they enjoyed during their days at St. John's. It was important to me that it was play-based, loving and nurturing, with an emphasis on social/emotional development and living out Christian values of love and acceptance rather than doctrine and judgment.
