This review is long overdue... My husband and I had a great experience working with Bob and Chuck. We hired them to do a mini kitchen remodel (countertops, island, backsplash) as well as redoing the flooring in the entire house along with a custom media niche. They are both highly professional as are all the resources they hire to work on the job. Bob was accurate with his estimates and the only reason the cost went up is because we wanted to do more than what we originally planned for. I liked how they always the same guys who worked at our house so we were able to build rapport with them and trusted them in our house. Building Pros remodeled the kitchen and the bar area in our family room. This was our first experience with any kind of remodel job. After hearing all sorts of nightmare stories of bad experiences with contractors, I was expecting the worst. I can honestly say, we received the very best!! Bob and Chuck were very easy to work with and I felt trusting and comfortable with them from the beginning. They knew our budget and worked with us to stay within it and give us the kitchen and bar area we dreamed of. Their online scheduling system kept us up to date on what to expect from start to finish. Scott their crew lead for our job was very personable, talented, responsive and dependable. He did an excellent job from start to finish! Their design coordinator and office personnel were very helpful in assisting me choose materials and answer any questions I had in a timely manner. Not sure about the problems with previous review and that person and her trellis. Sounds like there were problems with owners' expectations and most likely short-cuts they wanted to take (like getting their own materials ...). What I can tell you from experience, Bob and Chuck know how to build and remodel and do so with quality results! If someone is looking for cheap or short-cuts then you do need to look elsewhere! These guys work hard and take pride in their projects! I had Robert Clifford come to my home for a bid to remodel my kitchen. What a wonderful surprise to find a great professional that was able to look at my kitchen and see where we could change some walls and build around a built in refrigerator. I felt Robert was honest and very up scale with his work. He even gave me a book that he wrote for clients to read with all the questions most people have before and during a remodel. If working with a contractor that communicates professionally and respectfully is important to you, then look elsewhere. Chuck Ott of Building Pros is by far the most combative, defensive and unprofessional tradesperson I have ever worked with. I should note that we live in a 70-year-old house and completed a major renovation in 2007 so we have a lot of experience with tradespeople. I hired Building Pros to rebuild a trellis that was damaged in a windstorm. The damaged trellis was covered with shadecloth to provide needed shade next to the pool. We were looking to simply rebuild in the same style. The trellis was built last fall but we decided to wait on the shadecloth in case it was a very stormy winter. Once it was clear that the rains had stopped, we tried to schedule this last piece of the project (which we had paid for in advance). We waited 6 weeks for the team to get the work done (they didn't show up on the first date they proposed - Chuck says this is because I never confirmed, even though he said he would get back to me as the date got closer). The day finally came when they were to install the shadecloth and they did a very sloppy and shoddy job. I can send photos so you can see for yourself. The trellis they built is absolutely fine, so I had high expectations that they would finish off the work in the same high quality manner. Chuck's first response was to deflect the issue and tell me that I had purchased sub par materials. I checked and double-checked that I was purchasing exactly what he suggested, and I have documentation to prove it. His email on the subject is clear that he had a plan: "I/we recommend you purchase 2 shade cloths approximately 9'-6" wide by 18' long. It can then be "cut to fit", wrapping all 4 sides around a 1x2 piece of redwood and attached to the top of the 4x6's. The intermediate 4x6's can then have a 1x1 or 1x2 nailed on top "sandwiching" the shade cloth." Chuck did not follow his own plan. Now that it's clear we're not satisfied, Chuck says it was extra work anyway so we should consider the installation temporary and find someone to do it correctly. At our expense, naturally. I had to send Chuck his own invoice to prove to him that installing the cloth was part of the original scope, which we paid in full last fall. His strategy is to deflect - blame the customer or re-write history to fit his story. Proceed with caution and make sure to document all conversations to avoid a he said-she said situation. Building Pros did a great job on our laundry room project and putting in a new sliding door in our dining room to the back yard. The thing that we were particularly impressed with is their website communication system in which we were kept informed, along with each individual working our our project, about all that was going on, what would happen next, and any changes or issues that came up that we needed to address. Everything was done on time and on budget, the workmanship was excellent, and when the project was complete everything was spotless. Are they the cheapest around? No, but reasonable and if you want it done right, on time and within the budget you've mutually agreed to then Building Pros is the contractor you want on your project. read more

We 'found' Building Pros from our neighbor when they had their kitchen remodeled. From my front window, I was able to see: 1. they showed up EVERY day by 8:00am 2. the team kept their outside job area immaculate - even the work vehicles were spotless. All this before I even saw the finished project My neighbor was so impressed by their work, she said she would call Building Pros for her next job without any hesitation. When it came time for us to remodel our kitchen, I did the usual interview 3-4 contractors. I was dreading this process. My last home project eight years ago was not a good experience. That contractor had one of the lowest bids but he subcontracted most of the work out. There was little accountability in his work and he was out of business within 2 years. I figured I would give Building Pros a call based on my neighbors positive experience. Bob Clifford arrived on time, and sat down with us to discuss our ideas for the remodel. I was impressed by some of his ideas. He did say that his bid would most likely not be the lowest but he would take care of all the details and stand by his work. It would be done right the first time, and it was. They arrived on time, every day. Clean up was done every day before they left. Bob, Chuck, Terry, Caesar, Hector, Sean, Mike were all wonderful to work with. I have recommended them to my friends that are thinking about remodeling. Bob and Chuck run a very professional business with skilled craftsmen at all levels. This was our first project with Building Pros and we appreciated the excellent communication and on-site visits by both Bob and Chuck throughout the project. They understood our quality expectations and delivered as promised. Change orders were handled effectively, so there was never any confusion or disagreement regarding costs and schedule.
