Beautiful lights! You won't regret it. They have two lanes open at a time. You can also purchase the 3D glasses. I highly recommend for a different experience with the lights. At the end you can pull over to park to get on rides and walk around and have hot cocoa. We drove out here to experience the different scenery and lights. Enjoyed every moment of it all. read more

I have so many happy memories picnicking and swimming here as a kid, and I love being able to share this beautiful spot of nature with my family now! They have so many things to do all throughout the year, so you are never bored. Fall: We recently rented one of their campsites for nearly 45 guests and found the area to be be clean, spacious, and have running bathrooms. Woo-hoo! The air was crisp, the leaves were all shades of orange, red, and yellow and there was tons of room to spread out and run around. Spring: Their Virginia bluebell trail is one of the best in the area and you will see fields and fields of blue as far as the eye can see! We went with a whole rack of kids during spring break, ages two - seven and found the trail to be easy to follow, and (mostly) stroller friendly. Summer: I have so many fun memories swimming in the little Atlantis water park. I love how you don't have to be a member to swim, you just pay a flat fee and visit for the day. So wonderful for the VA area since getting a pool membership is often a lengthy and expensive affair. Winter: The Festival of Lights is such a fun way to kick off the holiday season! Grab some hot cocoa to go and drive through a little wonderland of twinkling lights. There's a little carnival at the end with a camel and some rides as well. Public parks are such a gem! I'm thankful that this one exists near us and is free for VA residents. read more

I had such a great experience at the Bull Run Shooting range. I took a class with Annette, who taught me everything I needed to know on how to shoot a shotgun. I ended the day with hitting 9 targets out of 25, which was my first time skeet shooting. There's no mention of it on the website or at any point when you reserve a campsite, or we would have gone elsewhere. It's alright. Personally am a fan of shooting sports. They have an excellent clay pigeon area, where you can use your 12 gauge shotgun. They have rentals too, but a 28" Benelli is a lot of excitement. Good staff here. Also Christmas time is a nice time, as the lights in the park is family friendly. It'll cost you considerable money. The car camping sites are decent. Also the camp map is a cinch to use. Like I said gun lover, but the constant shotgun blasting interferes from fully relaxing. I suppose one could get used to it. There are decent trails also. It is a nice area with plenty of civil war history. read more

The Virginia blue bells bloom for less than a month, and I wanted to see them! They are sooo much prettier than pictures can show, and the whole hike (super easy at just 1 1/2 miles) just feels like you're in Glinda the Good Witch's garden (or maybe Alice in Wonderland but without the creepy and cruel creatures). Part of the path that has raised wooden pathways, but everyone with strollers definitely had to turn back pretty early on as it gets muddy very quickly. Overall, this was a gorgeous and relaxing hike. I'd definitely come back but think now is also the ideal time to get out there before it gets hot and humid! read more

I visited the park for the first time to see the bluebells. This is reason enough to visit but, oh, there's more. The trails are beautiful during spring; there are lots of opportunities to get close to the Occoquan. There are picnic areas-pavilions- but I gather you have to reserve them as there was a man telling people they had to leave if they didn't reserve them. The playground is large and has modern equipment. I'm definitely interested in returning for some hiking. read more

One of my favorite places to hike. I grew up in Centreville loving Bull Run Park, mostly for its scenic trails and history from the Civil War. The park is home to a waterpark, picnic areas, trails, open fields where they often hold festivals, and disc golf. The creek and bridge is a great place for photo ops. From my high school graduation pictures to our one year anniversary pictures, we have loved our photos taken here. It's absolutely beautiful in the Fall. I almost get a feeling of nostalgia walking through the park as I have so many memories with family and friends here. I like the trails here because the grounds are well maintained and the paths are pretty clear. I do wish that the signs and trail markings were a bit more clear. They have become faded throughout the years. Pro tip: After your hike, head over to The Winery at Bull Run nextdoor for a glass of wine....or a bottle depending on how badly you need it after that hike. read more

Went here this past Thursday night for their Festival of Lights. The cost is $25 dollars a car to ride through the park. I used a $5 off coupon I screen shot from their website. It's invalid on weekend nights. There was police presence keeping the peace. The lights and themes were beautiful and festive, and at the end of the drive there's a Christmas carnival, yay!! You can enjoy some carnival treats like cotton candy, candy apples, or string fries and vinegar my fave. There's lots of pic ops available as well. We enjoyed al the fire pits and they have marshmallows bags for purchase if you want to roast some over the fire. All in all this was super cute and we enjoyed aourselves very much!!! read more

I rented a cabin for my Beau's birthday weekend. Sat-Mon. The park aesthetics are ok, its not the prettiest park Ive ever been to, but its functional. I heard the blue bell trail is poppin during spring, so maybe a better time to go is Summer. I loved the cabins! I paid $71/night and had the comfiest 2 night stay ever. There is a bunk bed and a double sized bed in the back room, in the front is a microwave and mini fridge (freezer compartment is small af) and a futon that folds out to a double. Plenty of seating, benches and a large table. I liked the added details such as the hooks in each room to hang up clothes, towels, bags etc and the front porch swing. The camp store is convenient and very affordable. We had a cook out on Sunday and invited some guests over (apparently this is a no-no as youll find out later) My only qualm was Ranger David. Look, I understand lots of rule breakers must run amok in BRRP. Buuut Ranger David (warrior of the woodlands) CHILL. We broke the rules. No Alcohol, No Loud Music, No more than two cars parked and No woodburning fires before 4pm. I admit I didnt really read the check in sheet they gave us. So make sure you do that. BUUUT I suggested to the park manager that those rules should be a little more obvious by perhaps including a signature line to affirm. Anyway, I know we broke the rules but as soon as I realized, we corrected it pronto. As a matter of fact while he pulled up *skiiirt* in his ranger vehicle. I said to my guests OOps guys move the cars, hide the liquor, turn down the music. lol Ok Ranger David came out gave us a stern warning. We deserved it. Couple hours later after our "time out" Ranger Bill pulls up *Skiiiirt* before he could say a word I read his mind. "Hello, that red car parked next door is not ours..." Ranger D: "Ok ma'am, calm down. No need to blah blah" Bisssshhh Whet? You have not received the rath of Kass. Anyway. Ranger D came off his high horse after I had a talk with the Park Manager about descalating confrontations instead of using microaggressions. Anyway I digress. I would come back to stay but make sure I am on my Ps and Qs PS also im attaching pictures of the inside cause there are none to be found on the internets. cheers! read more

It was a midsummer night's stay at camp site #66. Check in was easy and everyone we encountered in the general store was friendly. The camp site had a fire ring so we purchased fire wood at the camp store. That's actually a rule as they don't want outside wood bringing foreign bugs into their environment. We are not experienced campers so we definitely studied YouTube which saved the day. The wood was "wet" internally. You'll want to bring a source of ignition in addition to a fire starter. The wood would not burn. Candidly, we cheated after 20 minutes by putting a piece of charcoal under the wood. Next time we'll have petroleum soaked cotton balls to get the fire going. Once the wood caught fire, the water actually bubbled and steamed on the sides. The bathroom was surprisingly clean and just a short walk up from the site. The neighbors were quiet, folks waved or nodded as we passed. Tons of families. So with that, I feel this campground is safe. We didn't see any large wildlife, perhaps that's a good thing. A camper we met had their seasoned pork chops stolen by a raccoon so lock your coolers! Hint: we noticed our neighbor collecting fallen tree limbs and branches to boost his teepee fire. It was impressive and salem witch trial-ish at the same time. But we'll be doing the same next time. read more

Over the years I've been to Bull Run for company picnics, festival of lights, and for disc golf. But this past weekend I made a return trip to the disc golf course. And wow has it changed a lot. It has been expanded a bunch and has pretty nice tee boxes and hole placards. It's also now very challenging. A round is 2$ which you place in a lock box at the first hole. As an out of county resident I expected to pay to enter the park, but the guy just waved us through. A great round, can't wait to get back and lower my score. read more

I went cold weather camping, beginners hiking, and shotgun shooting with a group called Destination Hike. I officially feel like a PRO at newbie cold weather camping lol. We arrived at Bull Run Park in VA around 6pm. It was obviously dark. We unloaded the vehicle and began setting up the tent. Our campsite included water hookups, electricity, table, and fire pit. Typically, I bring my own portable shower but it was too cold outside to shower. Instead, I took a chance with the public showers at the campground bathhouse. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean and warm. The campground was not packed at all so you could tell that the bathrooms weren't heavily used. I still brought my cleaning supplies because I just can't fathom the idea of using public showers. The shower was nice and hot. The bathhouse also included a laundry room which was a nice addition. The next morning we went hiking on the white and yellow trail. We took our time and embraced the fall foliage. The trail was pretty flat and featured so many beautiful leaves and small creek crossings. The end of the hike actually leads to a small water park inside the park. It was obviously closed for the season but it definitely looked like it would be a ton of fun for warmer weather. We did about 3 miles then headed out for lunch. Afterwards, we had to the bull run shooting center for trap shooting lessons and a game of wobble. So much fun! (I left a separate review for the shooting center). Later that evening, we grabbed dinner then headed to the Bull Run Festival of Lights Show that was held on the campground. We slowly drove along the road to view the beautiful light show. They really put a lot of effort into creating this local attraction. It included holiday decor and a Christmas station that played Christmas music along the way. After the light show, we met at the central cabin to have a social hour and bonfire. We sat around the fire with the rest of the camping crew as we roasted marshmallows and hot dogs. We talked about our camping experiences, adventures, and laughed about our hiking and shooting experience. We had a great time. read more

This is my favorite place for a weekend camping trip, being just an hour and a half from home. They can accommodate everything from tents to Class A motorhomes. The park is open year round and hosts a holiday festival of lights. The sites are spread out as it's a regional park and not a privately owned campground. Full hookup sites are the most expensive at $55 a night, still cheaper than full hookups at other places and at least double the site space. Plenty of trails, fields, shelters for rent, picnic tables that are first come first serve, and playgrounds. The bonus is the Atlantis Water park at only $4 if a registered camper. It's close to Jiffy Lube Live for concert goers. It also has a shooting range, which some don't like, but never bothers us. read more

I did some tent camping here last week. The grounds are immaculately kept and the staff are exceedingly friendly and helpful. The park is huge and offers something for everybody including, a water park, playgrounds, a shooting range, cabins and RV spots. There are also two bathrooms with showers on the premises for campers. Unlike most camp restrooms, these were extremely clean and well maintained. I suppose the only negative about this park for camping is the noise. As mentioned before, there is an outdoor shooting range on the grounds. Guns are loud. And the range is open all day and into the evening. And guns are loud. And annoying. Also at night we could hear the traffic on the nearby highway. So if you're looking for a nice campground not too far from the city with good amenities then this is it: if you're looking for silence and solace, this is not it. read more

Why did I purchase a state pass then? If its labeled as a State Park Pass, it should qualify for all state parks. read more

This is another recent find to take the stroller and baby to as far as walking. Maybe you have heard of the "Battle Of Bull Run"? Well, it happened here. So, if you are a nature lover or a civil war buff, a visit to this park would be an order. Surrounded by tons of trees, this park has a bunch of trails to wander, walk or jog on. In the summer, you can hit the Frisbee golf course, the marina or the outdoor pool. Or maybe the mini golf course in the spring. This park is huuuge. There is also a for-real camping area where you can pitch a tent. And a trail that runs all the way to Occoquan. Right now at Bull Run Park there is an event called "Festival Of Lights." It is a bunch of lighted trees and buildings that you can ooh and ah over, as well as a "Holiday Village" that has food, an ice skating rink, amusement rides and more. That is a ton of holiday cheer for $15 a car. read more

This was a beautiful place to camp. Our location was among trees. It was a pull-through, which made it easy to get our trailer in/out of. We were not nose to nose with neighbors. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star is because of the shooting range nearby. We were camped at the far end, right by the shooting range. If you stay in camp all day, you have to listen to constant shooting. But other than that, a wonderful place to stay. read more

Came here for the first time this past weekend after hearing about the Bluebells. Having lived in this area for nearly two years I had never heard about them, I was certainly missing out! About mid April there are Bluebells throughout the park, mostly along the water. But, most importantly make sure to hit bluebell trail. This park is huge, and unless I missed it I didn't see any signs leading to where the trail was except to where to park, which was buried deep in the park at Atlantis Water park. From there walk towards the camp center and the trail is to the right. There was a sign marking the trail, but it's quite a drive into the huge park. (They do have a map on their website - if you can spot the camp center on the map, the trail starts right next to it) The trail was a bit muddy but most of it was along a raised plank platform. I was worried I had missed out on all the bluebells as I only saw occasional patches here and there, but I decided to keep walking. As I got closer to the river I could see tons of bluebells! It took about a 10-15 minute walk, but so lovely! It was sunset and I shot photos till the sun was nearly gone and am hoping I can make it back one more time. Certainly worth the stroll through the trees! It's a very easy, flat walk. My only real complaint and bit of advice is to avoid the place when there is an event going on. While I was some distance from the other side of the park where the event was being held, I could still hear the concert or whatever was going on. Not ideal when you are wanting to maybe enjoy some quiet time in nature. Lovely lovely park, and even though I live close my husband and I think we will come camp here! read more

I will never walk these trails again. I felt my safety was at risk today. I was not threatened personally, however safety was risky nonetheless. First, This park needs signs that tell you when you leave park boundaries. Big clear signs. I walk 2 miles of the Occoquan Trail before I realized I was out of the park. I started passing huge groups of people (I'm talking close to 100) swimming in the creek, music blasting, grown men Pissing right on the trail. That's right. Not further into the woods but on the trail. The air smelled like someone sh%t on top of a dumpster. I was disgusted. I got to a road bridge and went to check my surroundings and thankfully there were Civil War posts with a star on the map that says " You are here". Not so thankfully, that meant I had to walk back the way I had just come. Again putting my safety at risk. Look at my pics of the piles of trash and used diapers everywhere. Who Rangers or Polices this area? This trail is disgusting and horrible. It is unsafe. read more

This is a review of a non-electric campsite, space #68. It provided decent separation from other campsites - our tent, on the far side of our site, was about 30 feet from the next campsite's tent. And we couldn't see any RVs from our space. Space #68 offered a designated (flattened) tent platform, onto which you could probably fit a large 8 person tent. Our 3 person tent took up about half of it. We also fit another tent about 20 feet away, on another flat area without a platform. It was quiet at night - we didn't hear any other campers. Logistics: -Campfires are allowed in the fire pit, and a standing camp stove (similar to what you'd find at any outdoor picnic spot) is provided. -This isn't rustic camping - there are restrooms, which are old, but not terribly dirty. -Reserve online ahead of time. read more

As is typical with many of the federal campsites, the spots are almost on top of each other. The roads aren't in the greatest shape. The real problem with Bull Run are the "rangers". These "rangers" (who clearly just got out of diapers) are drunk with power. They "pull you over" with their LED lights, and scold you for going 5 miles over the speed limit, but then drive around the park at 15 over, at least. They also have absolutely zero tolerance for their "laws". They are rude and won't listen to any rational requests. Pohick Bay is close nearby, is a little better with regards to facilities, and the workers there are SO much nicer (they even pick up trash!) Do yourself a favor, just avoid Bull Run and head to Pohick Bay Regional Park read more

This review is for Atlantis Waterpark. The water park is great for your younger kids. They have two kids areas. One is the standard 1ft max pool with a little water slide that my two-year old still raves about. Kids just splash in the water from the slide, and just head back... over and over and over. The second area for kids is for the 3 - 10 year olds. It's like a big playground with water coming from lots of places and they have a huge bucket that fills up with water ever 2 mins and comes splashing down (at rather a strong force). Naturally, when the bell begins to ding for the splash down all the kids go running (as did I and a few other adults). Both kids areas are fenced in with at least two lifeguards that walk around constantly (literally, they never stop walking in a circle around the place). The water slides are fun. The yellow slide (tube) is drastically faster than the red slide (half pipe/open). Kids must be 48-inches to ride the slides. The pools are limited to 5ft which make them fun to just bob and swim around. Nothing special. They have food, limited, and cool pb&j sandwiches for the kids. I recommend the nachos for a quick bite. Overall, crowd was very manageable and they have lots of loungers with big umbrellas. I'd go here again and again, it's cheap too. Get here when it opens at 11am! read more

Good park with 2 hiking trails. Plenty of space for cookouts and family gathering. One tip - don't go to hiking after rain, we had a storm yesterday and the trail holds the water. Also people are leaving their trash....not good . Overall good place to go. read more

Bull Run Regional Park is one of the great places to relax and chill out with groups of families, friends, etc. I first went there for picnic at one of the campgrounds with friends and there were plenty of open-wide space for us to hang out. Def would go again if I get a chance. read more

Great campground but totally inflexible staff. I was unimpressed - we stayed two nights and within the first 18 hours had two staff members stop and tell us we were breaking arbitrary rules - like "you can't park more than two cars at every campsite" (we were unloading) and "you can't have more than two tents at any campsite" (we were with a group of kids on three campsites with ten total tents -- plenty of room, and the individual, who happened to be a park supervisor -- couldn't tell us why the rule was the rule...oh by the way, this "rule" was 1) overlooked by staff when the reservation was made, since family sites were all full, 2) not re-instated when we checked in to camp, 3) not mentioned when the first staff member came by to tell us to move our cars, 4) seemingly forgotten by the staff when we paid more for the numbers we had). We won't be back. read more

This review is for the campground facilities (in an RV): 1. Sites are not level 2. A lot of sites for RVs run parallel to the road 3. Some RV sites have services opposite of the road so the door opens on road side of the RV 4. Heavily treed so satellites do not work 5. Laundry facilities are not clean. Did not check rest rooms or showers 6. There are no signs to indicate washer & dryer cycle time (1 hour each) 7. You can only camp 14 nights at a time. If you want to come back (we cancelled our return) you have to be gone for 4 nights 8. They offer no refunds 9. Check yourself for ticks. I had 2 on me when I left the park. That all being said, it is one of the least expensive campgrounds in the Washington DC area read more

It would be a nice park but they decided to add a pool and a shooting range which totally ruins the whole being in the park experience as parking is limited and you hear non-stop gunshots. Extremely crowded, need a permit for grilling even if there is literally no one there. The annual bluebells would be nice except for the crowds and non-stop shooting. read more
