It's a very good, very cool store. Its current location which is located in old renovated movie theater offers a wide variety of things from craft supplies of all sorts to thrifting finds. It's a space that feels like a school art room where anything is possible with just a little creativity applied. You never know what you'll find from old magazines to old family photos to empty 35mm film canisters to old laboratory supplies. Their official thrift store is located in eye sight close by to if you want browse those offerings. This place is a true Durham staple since I was a kid and it was located in Northgate Mall and remains a Durham staple now (sigh... - because I'm older now too) many years later.

This gallery is run by locals and supplied by locals. It's not as fancy or jazzed up as some of their competitors, but feels a lot more local and old-townie. You'll find almost everything here: from jewelry to cutting boards, quilts to pottery, and of course a plethora of paintings and photography. You'll be greeted when you enter and might even be asked where you're from. The Hillsborough Arts Council reminds me of a friendly gift shop for the town of Hillsborough. Shouldn't be missed if you're looking for some local hospitality and to support a huge array of local artists.

I am fairly new to the area and went to the event by myself. The shop was empty when I entered and the staff did not even acknowledge me, despite me looking directly at some of them and smiling. This is a small shop. There is no way to miss when someone comes inside. I will not go here again. The items are very interesting, though priced higher you would expect, but the lack of service and friendliness made me very uncomfortable.
