Plus, your library card allows you to access digital collections too; I have an audiobook checked out right now. The staff have always been kind and helpful and the library also hosts events and clubs for the public. I'm a regular at one of those clubs. It helped me make some friends with shared interests after I moved here. This is one of my favorite places in town.

This was my first visit to the library in town, & I have lived here in Athens 2 years. It was…read moresmaller than what I imagined, & I'm still getting used to their system. But I signed up for a library card & met some of the staff members (who are friendly & helpful). I sat down at a table upstairs & read & browsed through a book that was lying on the table. They also have DVDs & audio books to rent. Upstairs is the collection of young adult non-fiction & fiction (the room), there is also a children's section, a western section, a sci-fi section, & a mystery section. Those are the sections I have found so far. Since I have a card now, I hope to return so I can start checking out some books!

The library is of a size that one would expect for a community the size of Alto, yet it has distinguished itself by the vision, scope and quality of its special collections. The Stella Hill materials are unique enough that they would be considered a major collection within a larger institution such as East Texas Research Center, History Center at Diboll, or at Liberty. And -- the staff makes their collections very easy to access and work with, with easily accessible materials and finding aids that are well-cared for and regularly updated. Stella Hill Memorial Library has established themselves as a unique and important complement to the larger archives in the area, and I encourage you to check them out as you make your way through your research. It smells in here. It really does. I don't know if it's dust, or unwashed patrons, or if the…read morebuilding or carpet just need updating desperately, or what. It's also not intuitive, when you walk in, where different departments might be located. And ... there are always unhygienic members of the community lazing around in the entrance or out in front,... staring at you. In all fairness, I haven't tried the library's programming, interlibrary loan system, ebooks or other services - maybe they're spectacular. I hope they are.

Just traveling thru and stopped in to buy a couple of children's books. In addition to the previous items, they had thank you card writing to Veterans, free Halloween costumes and pumpkin carving kits.

They have regular sales of old books. Overall a good library, but very noisy. Don't go on a Friday 'Story Hour' is more like 'indoor Playground' with kids running around and yelling. Even on other days this library can get pretty loud and staff does little to keep the volume down.

Not…read moreonly were my three children and I not greeted with a smile or hello etc, we were told it was too late in the day to obtain a library card and that they closed at 4. Even with the earlier closing time, I'm certain we had time to get a card and the books my kiddos needed for a report. I even had a list of the books needed. We will be traveling further to get our library cards to a library that embraces and encourages literacy, as this one seems to be a lost cause My advice for the library management is to seek employees or find volunteers that will welcome patrons, not turn them away because they want to leave early.
