Plus, your library card allows you to access digital collections too; I have an audiobook checked out right now. The staff have always been kind and helpful and the library also hosts events and clubs for the public. I'm a regular at one of those clubs. It helped me make some friends with shared interests after I moved here. This is one of my favorite places in town.

I like to say libraries have saved…read moremy life... its just amazing how you can find what you really need and it almost seems like it finds its way to you. Longview library is no exception. When it comes to my main interests since I've been here, like health and wellness, they have some of the latest new books by top people when I look for them, such as How Not to Die, by Dr. Michael Greger, MD! The staff for the most part is the best I've ever known in any library, especially David Hamblin. Always ready with a warm smile and ready to help with any questions or need, although he has now moved to the geneology department so I don't see him as much. Which is another point, they have a whole separate area for looking up ancestry and important local historical records. Pretty cool! They also have regular events! One of the best is "Chappaqua" in the spring, where they reach out by providing a fun day outside, with vendor booths and live music by others in the community. Lastly, I love getting audio books on CD and they have a great selection of both CDs and DVDs. It's a big library with lots of stuff. A great children's section as well-- You should go check them out!! :)

The website states that the library closes at 5:30. We are new to town and arrived at 3:20. Not…read moreonly were my three children and I not greeted with a smile or hello etc, we were told it was too late in the day to obtain a library card and that they closed at 4. Even with the earlier closing time, I'm certain we had time to get a card and the books my kiddos needed for a report. I even had a list of the books needed. We will be traveling further to get our library cards to a library that embraces and encourages literacy, as this one seems to be a lost cause My advice for the library management is to seek employees or find volunteers that will welcome patrons, not turn them away because they want to leave early.

This was my first visit to the library in town, & I have lived here in Athens 2 years. It was…read moresmaller than what I imagined, & I'm still getting used to their system. But I signed up for a library card & met some of the staff members (who are friendly & helpful). I sat down at a table upstairs & read & browsed through a book that was lying on the table. They also have DVDs & audio books to rent. Upstairs is the collection of young adult non-fiction & fiction (the room), there is also a children's section, a western section, a sci-fi section, & a mystery section. Those are the sections I have found so far. Since I have a card now, I hope to return so I can start checking out some books!
