My first time in the store and range was today. Not a fan. The store is small and was packed. This is not a problem, but the people behind the counter just aren't very friendly at all and don't maintain a very clean or organized shop. I don't have a whole lot of tolerance for people that are rude - there's just no need for it especially when running a business and when I've simply asked a pertinent question with a smile and friendly tone. The range is tiny and packed with people. More than should probably be let in to be honest. It doesn't feel like a very controlled environment at all and one can begin to understand the stories of negligent discharges in the past. The RO was friendly enough and really the best part of the overall experience (just a hello and good bye upon arrival and departure). Be ready for high powered rounds also. They're very loud in a such a small inclosed space, even with ears on. end result: i won't be going back. i'll drive a little further for better service and space. read more

This place is total crap. The only reason why I gave it two stars is because on the off chance you go there, the staff just might be in a good mood and you get some pretty good service. Normally they are rude, rush you away and have zero patience for questions. I don't expect the best when I open the door and there is a wall of people fumbling over each other but a little effort would be nice. Good selection of overpriced firearms and ammo. From the start, I should say that if there were other options of public ranges within 30 miles, this might read differently, but with nothing public and local to compare with, it's a solid 3. The range is clean and well ventilated. Rates are around 8 bucks for a half hour and THEY DO NOT RENT FIREARMS. The range officers swing anywhere from friendly to standoffish, but I have never seen them be rude to anyone. They DO have a habit of making examples of people. They are very clear about the rules when you enter the range and hand them your receipt. The number one violation is NO UNCASED WEAPONS OUTSIDE THE PORTS. I have shot here a dozen or so times and 75% of the time, sometime while I'm there, someone will arrive, listen to the rules, then proceed to uncase their weapon on a table designated for loading. The range officers tend to fly over, yelling and making the person appear foolish. If you dont like this, dont disobey the rules or dont shoot here. The counter staff can be extremely helpful and friendly, or short and unwelcoming. As mentioned inanother review, just step to the counter and ask for what you want. Have your #+%* together, in other words. This place may seem unwelcoming or rude to some. While looking over the merchandise, I've heard sales people give advice that I believe might not be in the customer's best interest. I wouldnt recommend anyone who has never handled a firearm to walk in off the street and expect a welcoming smile and a free lesson. BUT, if you want to show up with your gear, obey the rules, and have a place to shoot, it'll do just fine. read more

The Bullet Hole experience for a new gun buyer was a very positive experience for me. I wasn't sure what I wanted. The staff was patient and encouraged me to touch and feel every gun. It was very busy and a they had customers who were impatient, asking if they rent guns, and those who seemed like regulars. Even with all the interruptions from those who can't wait their turn it was a great experience. The range although small seems to be run with my best interest at heart. The range officer seemed to know who the new shooters are and took time to teach me the proper way to shoot in a range. He also held those who weren't following the rules accountable. I felt he was keep me and those around me safe. I went at 10 in the morning and came back at 8 pm. The same staff was there. They work long hours it seems. I'd recommend them to anyone. read more

I would give this place zero stars if given the option. I went here one evening to inquire about the NJ Hunter Education program and pick up the workbook/DVD for myself and a buddy. The older guy behind the counter on the right side when you walk in was SLEEPING on his hand when I walked in. After asking him a few questions about the program I was answered back with very short and attitude filled responses.. Sorry to wake you up from your nap grandpa... And how about looking someone in the eye when talking to them? Courtesy is NOT common at this place, HORRIBLE service. As other reviewers have mentioned.. the staff here is extremely rude. When I asked for the workbook and DVD you'd think I asked him to run two laps around the block given his demeanor when he needed to get up, walk two feet, and reach down into a bin to pull a workbook and DVD. Another great thing is, you don't get the renters/tourist crowd. This range is to enjoy the hobby and hone your skills. Not a positive review, not a negative review. Bullet Hole is cheap, it's close to home and as an indoor range it serves its purpose. The staff is neutral, they are not friendly but they are also not disrespectful. If you are new to guns and you're looking to get answers from the people behind the counter, good luck. They have good prices on ammo, firearms and gear so do your research, know the law, know what you want and simply walk up to purchase. I never dared to ask questions because I was afraid a shoe would be thrown at me. If you are not concerned about personalized service and are just looking for a place to shoot your gun and buy supplies at the best prices around this is the place for you. If you are new to firearms and you want someone to teach you the ropes, give you useful information or make your buying experience memorable go elsewhere. My main reason for visiting this place is the range itself and to me it is fine. I don't care about the cluttered range area or the arrogant range watch dog. Follow the cardinal rules of firearms and nobody will mess with you while you shoot. I have purchased a firearm at Bullet Hole before and I had no issues but then again I knew what I wanted and I had all the right paper work to avoid having to ask any questions. I am a law enforcement officer in N.J. I have never had a problem with the staff at the counter. Always knowledgeable and helpful. The only issue they have is with the old guy in the range part of the store. I realize it must be a tough job making sure no one gets hurt, but this guy has absolutely no people skills. Ok, I'm writing this review as a person that's never shot a gun before. The whole idea of guns makes me a little uneasy in general, but I went with a group of guys as part of a bachelor party. For me, it was a bit intimidating when I first got into the shooting range area waiting my turn. Even with the protective earphones on it was loud. However, the 2 instructors we had working with us were excellent. They really took their time explaining safety, loading, aiming and firing the weapons. They showed a lot of patience and really made it a fun experience. I actually did very well and found it to be quite the rush. It was also very cool that they let us shoot a wide variety of weapons. I'm not really up on the names but I think we shot a beretta, glock, 2 types of revolvers, a shotgun and an AR-17. Again, being a novice and not having anything to compare it to, I thought the whole experience at Bullet Hole was very positive. read more

I highly discourage anyone from going here. I've only been here once and that's more than enough. I walk into their store and was unimpressed with their closet sized store front and got the ultimate stare down from their bored staff of three. I could care less that I wasn't greeted but when I requested to see their selection of holsters particularly their IWB selection it's as if I insulted this guy's mother for making him walk 15 feet to their discombobulated bin of holsters and even then they only showed me one. Afterwards I inquired on their lubricants particularly Frog Lube and they only had one small container overpriced for $10. I purchased it because I ran out and needed to clean my firearm asap. I left assuming everything was ok and I come to find out while stuck in traffic going home that the small can they had it in was cracked and some of the lubricant spilled in my jacket since they didn't put it in a plastic bag. Now I will admit I am partially to blame for not checking out what I bought however it's poor practice and unprofessional to conduct business in this manner. I guess the only saving grace was after calling to inform them of the mishap they offered me a refund but by then it was too late and I was nearly home. I haven't been to their range and quite honestly I don't intend on going I'd rather go to Gun for Hire in Woodland Park at least there I won't be treated like a suspected felon. read more

I have been to the bullet hole ONCE and will never go back again. I shoot a handgun and a 9mm rifle and the port gets crowded with cases and weapons to say the least. They mark your entry time on a board so you are getting not a second over than your time paid. The staff is a bit condescending and this is NOT a place for beginners for sure. I have even witnessed a range officer snatch a weapon from someone's hand ..that was surely not one of the safest things I have ever seen on any range. I'll continue to drive the 2 hours to Hagues Range in south Jersey..its a hike but you can shoot anything there with a helpful friendly staff. read more

DO NOT BUY FROM HERE! I went here for my first weapons purchase and was treated like a child, instead of customer making a 1st purchase and needing a bit of guidance. I kept my cool, purchased $800 worth merchandise. I was sold the most expensive S&W 40 cal ammo, but didn't know any better to ask if there was something cheaper. I felt they took advantage of me. I said to myself it would get better once I got to shoot ... but it only got worse. I stated several times this was my 1st time shooting, but no one bothered to show me how to load or operate the weapon. In retrospect that was extremely dangerous. Don't go here please. They are ALL RUDE (I interacted with four employees), the place is cluttered and cramped in both the sales floor and range. Also you most likely will have to park almost a block away in an area that is a bit shady along train tracks. read more

Honestly I would like to start of saying this place maybe in a crappy area and a little small inside it gets the job done if you would like to go to other gun ranges like gun for hire you can easily spend like $150 minimum if you rent a gun and buy ammo and if you bring a friend. but in bullet hole you can't rent guns you have to bring in your own gun and ammo but I'll tell you if you have your own gear your total will come out to $30 to $50 overall this place is great for shooting at targets and hanging out with your friends for a low price read more

I understand and respect the opinion of others but i bough a carbine in this place on Friday, and receive an excellent deal as soon as I walked through the door. when i left I was very satisfied with the service and purchase I had made, and the price. I call eight different places before any purchase had my option open. And no one had the product,2 places where they had it. they were charging me $200 in one place and another $400,above the price. and when i called "Bullet Hole" i couldn't believe that they had the right and best prices, they didn't have that ridiculous prices they had the other places. I'm very happy with "Bullet Hole" and the four staff that were working that day, were very professional and friendly .From now on this is my place to buy. try Bullet Hole on your own and experience, you will see that this is a excellent place. This is not my local range, that alone should say something. This location has a gunshop/gunsmith/25yrd shooting range. If you are interested in shooting you are welcome to do so in any of there 10 ports, you have the option of shooting for 30min or a full Hr. As many other gun shops if you would like to look at a particular gun you must have you permit available before any gun is placed in your hand. I recommend monday through friday 11a-4p. sat and sun 10a-1p. I recommend these times just to avoid the general traffic in the store or in the range. The staff is very knowledgeable and are used to dealing with a educated audience. First time purchaser my feel weary to some of the stern faces, but just consider in dealing with guns you unfortunately cant greet all with open arms and smiles. You will be treated with respect and provided for the information you seek. I purchased my first handgun here and have no regrets! The bullet hole DOES NOT rent guns, unfortunately but their selection is impressive well over 150+rifles on display well over 100+ hand guns in their display for purchase. read more

The Bullet Hole is a safe, extremely well stocked place to shoot/buy firearms. I went in there yesterday to sight-in my Crimson Laser Grips. I ran into a problem, with one politely asked question, I had one of the older staff members (equals experienced) spend all the time that was needed with me in my lane to straighten the problem out. Not only that, on the way out, I ran into the owner. I introduced myself to him and asked him a question about the pros and cons of installing a Wilson Combat compensator on my Kimber. He told me the truth, that is sometimes not what people want to hear. He advised me against it. When I asked him why he felt that way, he took 10 minutes to explain to me all of the details of how a 1911 semi-auto functions. He talked about carbon build-up, the harmonics and how that would affect the functionality of the main spring & the entire gun. I received an education from the man who started this business over 30 years ago. The people that go in there with the attitude that they are 1 step below experienced sharp-shooters, and ask questions accordingly, probably won't have the experience that I had. I have ALWAYS learned something & had a great experience there. These people that comment on staff there that are "curt" with them while on the range are forgetting the most important thing in this business, "SAFETY". After reading many of the reviews, I decided to try and add an additional take on this shooting range. I'm giving it 5 stars because if you're an experienced shooter with your own firearm, there is no better value. Bullet Hole will give you everything you need to have a solid day at the range and keep up on your shooting skills. To start, you cannot rent firearms here; Bullet Hole is for firearms owners who are looking to practice / improve / maintain their shooting skills or just squeeze off some rounds. As a result, the patrons are generally experienced shooters and there's a no-frills, but friendly/good vibe atmosphere that permeates the range. Although it's usually busy on weekends, I've yet to encounter wait time as there are enough ports to handle the volume of shooters. You park on the side of the building as mentioned in other reviews, pulling in to the graveled area running along the train tracks. There's always plenty of space and have yet to encounter any difficulty finding a parking spot. They have an impressive array of all types of firearms (handguns and long guns) for sale and the prices are virtually identical to any other gun store in NJ; they are expensive, but you will not get ripped off any more than purchasing any where else. Ammo prices, however, are EXCELLENT and rival online bulk purchases when factoring in shipping. Prices for shooting are perhaps the most affordable in NJ; less than $15 for an hour of range time and targets at $0.65 each; an hour with 5 targets is less than $20.00 and you can share your port with someone else for no additional charge. The staff is very helpful with people who have questions; in fact, every time I've been to the range (I frequent 3-4 times per month) the staff is assisting a customer and taking time to thoroughly explain and help with a potential purchase. As far as the staff being "rude" as posted by a few reviewers, they have a no-nonsense attitude and have to remember that this is a gun shop and range - not a Starbucks. They have to keep a watchful eye on what's going on in the front sales/staging area as everyone who is there for shooting is carrying a firearm (again-no rentals). For the customers' protection, they are professionally cautious with individuals that are new but once you get to know the staff and they recognize you, they are quite friendly and they begin to treat you like part of the Bullet Hole "family". A few of the staff have some "Northern NJ attitude" but it's nothing personal nor intended to be offensive and when you understand it, it's actually their sense of humor; being born and raised in Northern NJ, I was never offended and joke right back with them. As far as the range itself is concerned, it's kept clean and well organized especially considering it's size compared to some of the larger ranges in NJ. The ventilation system is powerful (you can hear the roar of the exhaust fans when you're outside) and I've never left the range with even the slightest hint of smelling like gunpowder. The target holders work just as well, if not better than some of the other ranges as the clips are fixed on the racks and are protected by the upper steel frame. John, the main RSO on the weekends is a no-nonsense individual who does a great job keeping an experienced shooting crowd in-line and safe. He is extremely helpful and will answer any questions you may have. He has eyes like a hawk and will notice safety transgressions, while at the same time not being too obtrusive into your range outing; testimony to the professionalism yet solid experience one has at Bullet Hole. Once again, keep in mind that the experienced shooters coming here are often packing some serious rigs and the vigilance of the RSO's over that much firepower is for everyone's safety and benefit. John, for one, knows his stuff and is very friendly with regular shooters who often chat with him. An added benefit to shooting side-by-side with experienced individuals is that many patrons will discuss their firearms with each other and are willing to let each other try their firearms (firearms DO NOT leave their ports - again, the RSO's are vigilant and do their jobs very well) - you have to step into another port if you're offered by another shooter to sample their firearm. This is what adds a really good vibe to the range. Overall, I highly recommend Bullet Hole; if you're looking for a no-frills, economical range that is very safe and where you can shoot just about anything, this is the place for you. read more

There are many ups and downs to the place. The ups are that its probably the only public gun range in the north jersey area unless you're apart of an expensive club in one of the small towns that has their own range to members only. They also have a good selection of guns as mentioned and also the option to buy cheaper ammo just for the range instead of he more expensive type. However, as mentioned, the staff at times can be rude; its probably family operated and when they have a good day its all good, when they're having a bad day everyone notices it. The old man in the gun range has made jokes with me at times and made me laugh and other times he can be an a**hole lol. The best thing to do when you go to bullet hole is know all your information ask for the ammo the range and keep a serious face be like one of them. I only use them for gun range not the purchasing part. Those of you looking to purchase check out the Ramsey outdoor sports crew. They have locations in Ramsey and Paramus. I have only been to the ones in Ramsey. The staff their is the nicest staff I have ever come across at any gun store. Let me start off by saying this is the first time I'm writing a review, it was so bad i have to warn others to stay away from here. Me and my husband went here to buy a firearm it was his first purchase to say the least they were not very helpful but answered some of his questions thats why i gave it a 1 star. After he made his purchase we went in to the Range to try the firearm, we where rudely greeted by the awful RO(Sergeant Slaughter) that was there. He was so rude and disrespectful he yelled and spoke to us like we were not paying customers. This was 2nd time at a range the first time we went to Gun for Hire this place was totally clean, staff was very helpful and treated people with respect and courtesy. I will not be going back to bullet hole i felt totally uncomfortable and told my husband to pack up and lets get out of here. I would rather spend a couple of extra dollars for range time and get treated like a person. I will never step foot in this place again. I will continue going to Gun for Hire. read more
