We loved all the thoughtful touches in our room--from the welcome cheesecake and strawberries to the snacks, drinks, Keurig with a wide selection of coffee and tea, warming eye masks, quality toiletries, and bubble bath. Our room featured an adjustable king bed and a large jacuzzi tub, and the bed was the most comfortable we've slept in on our trip. After dinner, we enjoyed relaxing on the front porch, strolling through the quiet historic neighborhood, and spending time in the beautiful secret garden beneath the old trees. Breakfast the next morning was absolutely delicious and served at the time we requested. The Chestnut Cottage is more than just a place to stay--it's a place where you feel genuinely cared for. We left feeling refreshed, grateful, and already looking forward to our next visit.

Pro Tip Depending if you are a hilton member or not, you get a breakfast voucher but I would get downstairs and grab a seat before 7am because it will fill up fast during the week and the weekend especially if a party is staying there for an out of town game or something.

Unfortunately, turning the heater on made that remarkably worse. We picked the side opposite the interstate hoping for it to be quieter. Nope. On Valentines Day morning, we were awakened by car after car and motorcycles revving their suped up engines and horribly loud mufflers. There must have been a car show nearby. At one point one sounded like it backfired (which to me sounded like an explosion next to my 3rd floor window). Our dog flipped out and tried to fit under the bed to hide. Breakfast is NOT free, no it is a hefty $19.99 per person - no thank you. The floors by the elevators had food dropped all over them and the elevator floors were dirty as well. We heard EVERY noise in our room from people in the hallways talking, kids running and playing, and the cherry on the sundae? Music started blasting from the room adjacent to ours leaving us wondering what was going on in THERE. Finally, room service only comes every other day which I find as a lazy and annoying reminder that COVID made standards plummet never to return again. The bathroom is the only mirror so I had to dry my hair in there. Unfortunately that means hair all over the floor and toilet which I hate. Unfortunately you just have to live with it until it's your day to get your room cleaned. I hated this hotel with a passion and would never stay here again.

The reason I am giving it 5 stars is because it is excellent at what it sets out to accomplish. The hotel is modern, clean, spacious and relatively inexpensive. For a great price you can get a spacious room with two beds and a pull-out sofa with room for my family of 5. This is a big deal when we travel because it is super convenient to avoid splitting my family into two rooms. Not to mention that we often simply can't afford two separate rooms when we travel. I love this hotel and what you get for the money. The staff is friendly, the hotel is clean, the breakfast is more than adequate and the beds are comfortable. There aren't many other hotels that can match the Hyatt Place when you factor in what you get for the price. Thanks Hyatt Place for being there for this weary traveler and his family!

I did feel very unclean in this hotel, and for a Hyatt, it is greatly disappointing. I most likely will not be back because of this issue.

The big down side is that it is hard to enter and exit the hotel's parking lot. It is on a busy road that curves. The staff were nice and the breakfast buffet was great. The pool was ok and they do have a fitness room. The room was a great temperature, clean, and the bathroom was a good size. We had to request the pull out couch linens but it would have been nice if they were in the room. Some of the blankets were in rough shape but the bed was comfortable. Overall it was a perfect fit for our family and I would stay here again.

Downtown Columbia can be a bit dicey in terms of crime, but the parking lot is brightly lit and safe. Our suite was spacious and clean. Since we were traveling with two kids, using the laundry room was necessary, and I was pleasantly surprised. The machines are free to use and work remarkably well, and you can buy individual laundry pods and dryer sheets at the front desk for $1 each. The gym is also clean, and the equipment is in excellent condition. I used the treadmill a few times during our four-day stay without any issues. My only concern was that the hotel is located in an awkward location, right off of 126, and turning left from Huger street can be a little tricky (but not impossible). It's a minor issue that is definitely outweighed by the amenities. We will definitely book here again!

Even if the people in the lot and just outside the entry door were guests, the enforcement of quiet hours would make a SIGNIFICANT difference. Yelp Review by Captain 619…read more Spring has draped Columbia, South Carolina, in her finest gown--dogwoods blooming like lace, azaleas blushing at the sun, and a warmth that seeps into the soul. Amid this Southern reverie, I find myself on a six-day work mission, lodged at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott on 511 Lady Street. Let me tell you, friends, this isn't just another hotel--it's a sanctuary stitched with kindness. By day two, I realized the heartbeat of this place isn't just its crisp linens or spotless halls (though they shine brighter than most). No--it's the people. Each morning, descending the stairs feels like stepping into a hug. First, Shirley, with her radiant cheer, greets me like an old friend, her laughter a melody that chases the fog of sleep. Today, Debra stood beside her, her smile a quiet sunrise, her presence wrapping the breakfast nook in tranquility. Ah, the breakfast--far more than a complimentary perk. Here, the coffee isn't just poured; it's offered with a "How's your morning, sweetheart?" The pastries aren't just displayed; they're arranged with a tentative care, as if each item and yogurt cup were chosen for a loved one. I've stayed in countless hotels where the meal spread feels transactional, but here? It's nourishment--for the body and the spirit. Shirley remembers how I take my coffee. Debra and her calm voice a balm for this weary traveler's soul. It's the details, you see. The way the dining area hums with warmth, strangers swapping stories over scrambled eggs. The way the staff treats every guest--whether a road-worn business soul or a family passing through--like kin. Shirley and Debra don't just work here; they minister here, turning routine interactions into tiny acts of grace. Without them, this would've been another forgettable stay. But because of their excellence--their humanity--SpringHill Suites has etched itself into my memory. To the team: thank you for crafting not just a hotel, but a haven. To future guests: come for the comfort, stay for the hearts that make it shine. Captain 619 sails away with a full heart--and five stars, well earned.
