    Inside our room's bathroom.

My wife and I were in town this past weekend for a funeral of a beloved Mother figure in our lives. We stayed at the Hyatt Place in Harbison, and what a major mistake it was! The place was AWFUL with all capital letters! For starters, we never got a room cleaning though the Hotel policy in writing on a ledger that clearly stated the room would be cleaned daily. Second, even when we called the front desk and requested that our room be cleaned, IT WAS NOT CLEANED! Additionally, the Hotel is not old I'm told by local friends, yet it is badly in need of repairs as the photos below clearly shows. We decided to leave the Hotel early and stay with a friend because we did not appreciate being disrespected and ignored after we had attempted to get our room cleaned. For the record, I have stayed in other Hyatt Place hotels in other cities and have enjoyed them, BUT this hotel was AWFUL in every way! I will be making every effort to take this to the Corporate Office of Hyatt Place. We were in Room #402.

    Bugs

Worst hotel ever. Water damage, bugs, bug bites when I woke up on my shoulder in picture, mold..no refund. Brandon the manager was nasty when asked & called for days n hung up on me. I'll never stay at another Hyatt like I have in past & thought they were nice. Came in late after being with my mom at hospital & had to leave early next morning to be back with her & this was closest hotel. Horrible experience. Was offered Hyatt hotel points only. No Thanks! I'd give it NO stars if I could!

The property is a challenge. Toilet leaked in first room. after three trips down to front desk I was finally moved to a second room same floor. Broken window. I ended up making a trip to walmart for lysol and Febreze, dollar tree for flip flops because i did not want to walk on the floor in socks. Breakfast was poor. Eggs, bacon, and pancakes tasted like cardboard. I could not eat them. I had oatmeal which was good. In room coffee pot and coffee pods a no go. I will say, the staff were very pleasant.

    Bed bugs!

This hotel has bed bugs! When I tried to speak with someone about this, I was told to wait bc the manager was on a personal phone call... When she finally made time to speak to me, she was extremely rude. She said they spray regularly and they couldn't possibly be bed bugs. She refused to listen to me and kept arguing with me about what they look like- even though I showed her side-by-side photos. I even caught several and gave them to the woman at the front desk! She refused to do anything for the inconvenience and told me she was "sorry if we truly had a problem with our stay." Two nurses (who coincidentally specialize in entomology) followed us out of the hotel and asked to see the photos of the bugs and the bites I receivedwhile staying in the room. Both confirmed they were in fact bed bugs. I cannot believe something like this happened, much less at a Hyatt.

A roach I had to kill in the room

The hotel and staff were horrible, and they are in need of a maintenance overhaul. I had to leave and go to a new hotel because they kept shutting off the water for hours at a time due to bad piping

    Water damage around the window

This place is in bad shape. The window of my room was open on the first floor with a lot of water damage around the window. A bar of soap and shampoo bottles were left in the shower. I only had a third of a roll of toilet paper and the other roll was not there. No blow drier. Both ice machines on the 3rd and 5th floors were not working. The only positive was the French toast pieces at breakfast. Really disappointed in Hyatt.

Very polite and professional staff! I had a king suite. Clean hotel and room. Nicely appointed and up to date. Free breakfast included with typical free breakfast fare. There are also snacks and sandwiches/salads for purchase throughout the day and room service too. I used the workout room which was small, clean, and equipped with 2 treadmills w/ personal tv, 1 step machine, 1 bike, earbuds, water, and towels. Our room was spacious with a large sectional couch, desk, bar area and fridge. The bathroom was tiny but new/clean and good water pressure. One problem I had was that the fridge was not working, but I called the front desk and they sent maintenance up to fix or replace it. The other problem we had was the ac turned off in the middle if the night and I woke up in an 80 degree room! I reset the thermostat and it cooled back down. Great location, close to tons of restaurants and shops. Great value for your money.

Bathroom door provides accurate representation of hotel overview

95% of the parking lot was blocked off w/ yellow tape for a hospital sleep study being conducted on the entire 2nd floor. I rode around the parking lot also noticing another guest doing same as we simultaneously shrugged our shoulders, gesturing w/ our arms raised, what is going on here. No access to the entire front of the hotel parking lot. I did not feel safe. we were told by customer svc the parking lot was to be repaved. The wrinkled bed sheets & pillow cases were unkept and clearly unchanged for some time. wrinkled towels appeared to be previously used, not crisp or fresh. bathroom door had obviously been pried/forced open. wood on bathroom door cracked and splintered significantly damaged. furniture was nasty, unclean. Shame on hotels.com for offering reservations, particularly nonrefundable.

Only item I did not like was the type of Starbucks coffee they serve which was too earthy and bitter for my taste.

I was only there for 1 night and it served its purpose of a place to sleep, shower and refrigerate my leftover food so I could take it for lunch the next day. The location is right by Harbison and away from a busy area. It is quiet and has ample parking -- also convenient if you have errands to run in the area (I had a quick return at HomeGoods and this was only a couple miles away). They also have continental breakfast and as I was limited on time I was taking it to-go. One of the staff members saw me trying to balance a couple items on a napkin and brought out a to-go box which made my life much easier. I'm sure it is supposed to be dine-in only but I really appreciated them accommodating me!

Overall Pro -Overall on the inside it looks great, modern design very welcoming and spacious at a pretty affordable rate. Overall Con -I am not a big fan of the open concept "business center" it's not even really a center its just an area with two computers and a printer (they all work which is good because not all Hilton computers work at the locations I have been in) but the lack of privacy when conducting business is a big problem especially if you have a business or career where you need privacy to exchange sensitive information that is not for everyone's ears and there is nowhere to have a private room on the first floor unless you go outside and hope there is no one out there.

Despite that call, our reservation was canceled, and we had to rebook upon arrival. We were then told that our assigned room had a "funny door." In reality, the door did not properly close or secure. I had forgotten about the warning because I have never stayed in a hotel where the guest-room door could simply be opened without a key. While I was showering, my guest entered the room without using one. We were both alarmed by the obvious safety risk and even more disturbed that the staff knew about the defective door but still assigned the room to guests. The overall condition of the property and room was also unacceptable: * The hallways were extremely hot and humid, with no apparent air conditioning in the common areas. * Our room was set to 74 degrees despite record-high temperatures. * There were visible signs of excessive moisture and possible microbial growth throughout the room. * The lamp had visible mold-like growth and rust. * There was mold around the shower. * The shower door did not close properly, allowing water to spill onto the floor. Because it was approximately 3:00 a.m., we were exhausted and dealing with personal circumstances, so we did not request another room at that time. That decision, however, does not make the condition of the room or the safety risk acceptable. The day before checkout, I contacted the front desk to request a late checkout and was told there would be a $45 charge. I have been a Hilton Diamond member for many years and have never previously been charged for a late checkout. When I explained the serious issues we had experienced to Jayson, he appeared indifferent and showed no concern about the unsecured door, the condition of the room, or our overall stay. This was not simply an unpleasant hotel stay. It involved a room that could not be properly secured, known safety concerns, visible moisture and sanitation issues, and dismissive customer service. We will not stay at this property again, cannot recommend it to others, and will be escalating the matter to Hilton and American Express.
