This is a great place and the teachers (Joseph, Jocelyn, and Aguns) are great teachers. There really good at explaining things and make the classes really fun. They don't give that much homework so that way people can balance out schoolwork. You can also book your own time so that's why it's really nice since the teacher's schedule are flexible. read more

I wanted to find a preparation course or tutoring for my son's ISEE and HPST exam preparations. Based on yelp reviews, I signed my son up here thinking that the premium I would be paying for one-on-one tutoring would be worth it. Two months+ and $2k+ later, he barely had an increase in any of five sample tests he took. I asked the program director Joan on a number of occasions about this lack of progress and she assured me she would talk to the tutors about it. I would be careful to continue to monitor your child's progress along the way. I feel my money would have been better spent at a group class as the individual "attention" did not yield any results. read more

This is such an amazing place! My daughter's ACT scores have gone up 5 points in just 2 months. She has worked with 4 or 5 different tutors there, and all have been fantastic. My daughter has been coming to MeriEducation since they opened. She has used them for one on one subject tutoring (at times last minute just to review). My daughter goes to Field Elementary and is in a Chinese Immersion program. The kids in this program only get 26 minutes of English a day, so my daughter was really behind in English, phonics, and spelling. I called the manager to ask about a tutoring option.The manager knew RIGHT WAY what I was talking about. Joan is the director and knows SO much about the Pasadena schools and area. It seems like she makes it a point to understand and learn about the schools. Joan was so familiar with the program; I was pleasantly surprised. She offered a free session and then develop a course structure for me to follow with my daughter for one on one tutoring...it has been four weeks and it's been so incredible. I've been looking for ways to motivate and create a "love" of learning for my daughter. It's been very difficult to find a place that has a different "feel" of being in a classroom. MERIEDUCATION is able to provide that much needed break from being in a classroom but yet continue to facilitate learning through tutoring. Not to mention my daughters tutor, Patty, is awesome. She knows when to push but most importantly she knows when to change gears to maintain her interest. My daughter truly enjoys spending time with her as she learns her multiplication. My daughter feels she can share with Patty subjects or topics she's struggling with in class. We highly recommend MeriEducation! Our son wanted to try to improve his SAT score after taking it and not getting a score he felt good about. Friends recommended MeriEducation in Pasadena. We were not disappointed. MeriEducation has a great program that starts with having separate one-on-one tutors for the English (Jordan) and Math (Farrah) sections of the SAT who really helped him focus on each of these areas. Our son's tutors were energetic, knowledgeable and very encouraging. Since MeriEducation requires that all the tutors have to have personally scored a very high score on the SAT - you can be confidant they will be good. They spent time with our son going over the MeriEducation custom curriculum to review knowledge needed for the SAT and gave him test taking strategies. A key part of the program is taking regular practice SAT tests at the Center that are proctored/timed. Following each test our son's tutors reviewed the incorrect answers with him. After each tutoring session the parents receive a session update that tells you what was accomplished in the session and how they are doing. They are very professional. Our son liked going to the MeriEducation Pasadena Center very much - very modern, bright, clean, with lots of positive energy. They are also able to accommodate the busy schedules of kids' activities with flexibility. The hard work paid off and our son was able to significantly improve his SAT score. Assembly line/cookie-cutter approach to tutoring. After two months of SAT prep tutoring, my kid's performance actually DECREASED. Meri Pasadena had a terrible time making and keeping appts as scheduled. They use an "account manager"-type person to "manage" each client's needs, but they never did an assessment after the initial intake, and never corrected course when we found the tutoring misdirected and ineffective. Got to the point where we were on the phone w/ them several times a week -- either to remind them for the umpeenth time that our kid couldn't start a 3 hour appt at 6 pm, or to remind them yet again that we in fact confirmed the dates they offered us and then let go, or to ask that they please assess and design a program that addressed her actual gaps in knowledge, rather than cookie-cutter ones. When exasperated, I let them know of my displeasure, my daughter's account manager made a negative comment about our family to her, which scared her and undermined her confidence. This place is, in our opinion, tutoring "lie"; it's formulaic, with no strategy, and no attention to the particular kid's needs. Today was the final straw, when i received an email apologizing that "a glitch in the system" meant every appt our kid had for December was actually not available, but that they'd let us know if anything comes up. A month before the actual SAT, and they'll let us know what works best for *them*? Very frustrating and disappointing. read more

First, let me say that I've used tutors for both my children for college test prep. I used another, more expensive company, for my oldest child. That test prep company was great. They provided excellent service and targeted the areas that my child needed improvement. They oversaw and took the lead on how to study, giving her test taking strategies, how often she needed sessions, when to take a practice test. Basically, I didn't need to think about anything because they took care of it. Now my second child is ready for college test prep. I was initially going to use the same test prep company that I previously used for my oldest child, however they raised their prices so I decided to look into other companies. After speaking with Merieducation, I thought they would provide the same services that I received from the other company. I was wrong. I suppose in this case, you get what you pay for! My child completed their Math and English workbooks and from there I'm not sure how they go about tutoring. I had to ask them to do practice tests to see areas of improvement and areas that still need attention. After months of tutoring, they still had not gone over the Science section of the ACT, they did not go over how to approach the test or give her test taking strategies. I had to ask them to do all of this. There was no plan or targeting the areas where my child could still improve. Twice the tutor was a no show. A friend of mine told me that her son had to correct his math tutor. Eventually, I had enough and went back to the more expensive college test prep company and it's been great! No problems. I don't need to think about anything because they are taking the lead on everything. My child's scores have soared. One less thing for me to think about - so I'm thrilled. I realize that test prep is expensive and the company we are currently using is extremely expensive. Something is better than nothing, so Merieducation can't hurt and by default (just because you are studying) your scores should increase at least a little. I just wonder if you would be better off buying a book and studying on your own instead of Merieducation. read more
