I see Dr Durasamy (female) who is new to the surgery, and I would definitely recommend her. She takes time to listen to what I had to say, and when I saw her recently to pick up some test results she said I was welcome to make use of my full ten minutes, whereas other doctors seem to be keen to get you out as soon as possible! The surgery also offers nurse services such as a travel clinic for vaccinations.

My elderly mother started to come into Watford General, a lot from the start of the covid…read morepandemic. She would come into the hospital with a small urine infection, otherwise okay in herself, and then weeks later, still there with delerium and it did not get bette,r till I got her back home. Care for her in this hospital ,was not always what I would have liked for my elderly loved one. I was her full-time carer and managing her syptoms well in her home. We tried to avoid the hospital ,because so many times , mum actually got worse in there. She would go in for one thing, urine infection, pace maker and weeks later still stuck there suffering with delerium. During july 2023 we had to give in , and take her down with chronic hypoxia symptoms. Quickly dispelled from resus, she was admitted in with a urine infection and after a week almost sent home without treating the Hypoxia. I so wish I had just taken her home but I was trying to help her get the seizures sorted out. She begged me to take her home as the staff were tipping her up and down in the bed and her stats were all over the place. Her time was up after a month and They sent her to a care home against her and my will, and in the care home they were woefully inept at managing her symptoms and at some point she started to a point of no return. Left in the bed on her own, fed food lying down ,when she had a hiatus hernia. She was physically sick and never could eat or drink again. Admitted back into A and E. The stroke unit refused to see her, and she had a massive stroke,whilst being injected with fluids. I saw it all happening, and it was as if she was being excecuted. The drs on the ward that day surrounded me, and stopped me being with her in her last breaths. They asked, what did your mother come in for originally? They were clearly frightened. So I now have ptsd from that day. Questions-why did the hospital send my mother to a care home who couldnt look after her? Why did the nurses on the ward not manage her hypoxia better? I am quite happy to blame Watford hospital but I blame myself more for sending her to you.

I was quite shocked, as I have been living in the UK for so many years now and this is the first time that this has happened to me. I believe that the fact that I am not originally English gave them the right to assume that I did not have any knowledge of the English language and that I required an interpreter during my visit. I would also like to point out that I did actually graduated in Interpreting and Translation myself in my home country and I honestly find such behaviour from the hospital staff quite concerning and offensive. The doctor who visited me was also incredibly rude and patronising; when I refused to take off my clothes as she asked me, as I only wanted some of my body parts to be examined during the visit, she kept making nasty remarks and wasn't even paying attention to what I was saying. In the end the doctor told me I was "free to escape" (using these exact words), which I found totally inappropriate. After this bad experience, I genuinely hope I will never come across that doctor again.

Nothing was too much trouble and they were always cheerful and attentive. His time in Elmwood sadly ended when he died, but the staff were aware the whole time and not intrusive. They gave my sister in law a great deal of support and help. Thank you staff in Elmwood.

The staff are absolutly fantastic with a variety of problemnatic areas and never hesitate to give as much time for you as they possibly can. The hospital itself is very clean, upto date and well maintained with 4 varied wards on site. I myself are in Hawthorns 2 - an acute ward holding on average 20 patients at a time. The ward holds a male and female corridoor and all patients are free to mix with everyone during the day. For any mental condition, this hospital will offer you outstanding help and support and you will soon be on your way to a happy and improved lifestyle. Fantastic!

There was a bit of a lack of…read morecommunication between the various nurses and consultants though so there was a lot of who told you that? going on. It seemed clean enough but far from sparkling. It has that old worn grey look. When I was waiting in reception one time, I overheard one of the receptionists coming back from the toilet saying That toilet spits out when you flush you know. That doesn't sound very hygenic to me, but I didn't test it myself.
