Pioneer Village Motel - Looking out from the remaining habitable building into the desolation of the hotel grounds.

I give this hotel 5-stars for being a perfect movie set for a slasher film. The grounds and…read morebuildings look like they haven't been touched up or improved upon for at least thirty years and the natural state of decay they exhibit is deliciously foreboding! The immaculately clean rooms with vintage tube TVs and 1980s "Do Not Disturb" signs, combined with the musty smell of insecticides gave this visitor the unique feeling of spending the night like a pickled fetal calf snuggling in a jar of formaldehyde on the shelf of a 1950s science lab. The peeling paint, peeling shingles and abandoned rooms of the motel wing provide fertile opportunities for imagining buried bodies, desiccated mummies and abandoned hope. Of course all of this is very sad, because Pioneer Village is about the great achievements of America. Methinks there is a metaphor here.

We stayed in the campground behind the motel. It appears the motel is falling apart just as badly…read moreas the Pioneer Village itself is. Our friend stayed in one of the rooms; musty, smoked filled room-dripping faucets, toilet ran all night, light bulbs were burned out, moldy tub/shower, curtains fraying, etc. Why, don't they take care of the pace? As for the CAMPGROUND - not much better. It was obvious that the bathrooms were not being renovated, they just decided not to repair or do any upkeep to them so we had to walk to the motel where they had cleared out four rooms to use as the "bathrooms". Disgusting, out fixtures, lights didn't work, no a/c, water barely came out of the shower. toilets looked like they were not cleaned in years, never had an toilet paper, not paper towels or blowers, no soap! Electric hook up did not work, we had to buy and extension cord to plug in at another site. One of the "clean outs" was clogged and running on the ground, smelly really nasty. Trees hadn't been cared for and the limbs were so low we had to trimmed them to keep them off our trailer roof. Don't stay at either the motel or campground!
