Full disclosure, our pet did not stay at Starved Rock Pet Resort. We planned to and the folks…read morerunning it were kind and accommodating to a fault. We were very excited to have our labradoodle stay here. The issue was that kennel consisted of a series of outdoor / indoor cages with their bull mastiffs in parallel chain linked cages. As we pulled up, the dogs were barking and biting at each other though the fences. This might be totally fine if your dog mostly lives outside and is used to being around large barking dogs. This is not the case with our coddled, living room dwelling labradoodle. The reason I gave three stars is that there was no was for us to know this before we pulled up.

I'll be honest...I started a Yelp account just so I could review this place. Every few years, my…read morefamily has a reunion at Starved Rock State Park. I am currently serving in the Army, and for the last three consecutive reunions, training, deployments, or other responsibilities have kept me from seeing my extended family. My fiancée and I have two young puppies, and we wanted to make sure that they were boarded in a comfortable facility close to the reunion. A quick Google search showed me that the Paws Here pet resort in Oglesby fit the bill. The problem was that they closed at six PM even though it was located at a private residence. My chain of command promised that we would be released at noon on Friday, giving me ample time to get there, but nonetheless, I called to verify that we could drop our dogs off later if necessary. Long story short, one of my Soldiers was having a pay issue, and I was forced to stay at work later than expected so that he and his family could pay their bills that weekend. Once we were on the road, we called Paws Here to let them know that we would be coming in late, and the underlying circumstances therein. Their tone was markedly different. They got back to us an hour later to tell us that we would have to wait till 0830 the next day to drop off our dogs, thereby throwing a huge wrench into our plans. We were debating between sleeping in shifts with the dogs in the parking lot, driving to a relative's house 40 minutes north of the park, or finding a different hotel that allowed pets when my uncle located the Starved Rock Pet Resort. We called them and let them know about our situation. We received clear, concise directions to their facility, and dropped our dogs off around 930 PM. The owners were very kind, and asked numerous questions about our dogs' individual behavioral quirks. Their facility was very clean and well maintained, and we felt very comfortable leaving our dogs there. The owner called us twice the next day to let us know that our dogs were settling in nicely. When we picked them up on Sunday morning, our dogs were relaxed and happy. Overall, it was a great experience for both us and our dogs. Other relatives of mine are now considering boarding their dogs here rather than leaving them at home. Guess which of the two pet boarding facilities they will be using?

You might say my husband and I were anti-boarding. We'd never read about a boarding service that…read moreseemed like it would be as good for our dog as it was convenient for us. Play All Day, though, is a totally different kind of boarding. The dogs are active throughout the day, both with other animals and with the people who work here. April is great with dogs of all sorts of personalities, matching them up with other dogs they'll like, and gradually helping them warm up to the new environment. Our dog was very nervous about the daycare/boarding, but she worked with him over several visits, and by the time we picked up him after a 10+ night stay, he... well, he was happy to see us, but I don't think he really wanted to go home! The services here are more expensive than at many other boarding facilities, but we found that it's ultimately an awesome value for the great care that they provide, and the knowledge that our dog isn't just getting fed and let out to potty, but is actually having a great time. We will definitely be using Play All Day again and would recommend to absolutely any dog owner to try them out for daycare or boarding.

I would not hesitate for one second to call and ask if she can come to daycare for any reason. We're wanting to take a vacation, call PAD. We wanted to go to the fair for a day and had no one to let her out at home, called PAD. They really are like a second home to our dog and I'm so glad I called and got on the waiting list when she was only 10 weeks old. We used to use the vet's boarding in town for my older dog and it was awful because he was in a typical concrete kennel with dog barking echoing in his ears for 24 hours a day, only being let out to potty a few times a day. I did not want this for my young dog so I looked for alternatives and this is the complete opposite at PAD. My dog is only crated at nap time and bed time, just like it would be at my house and I know she's so tired from running crazy all day that she probably gets in her crate at daycare and goes right to sleep. Daycare is a 50 minute drive for us one-way and as soon as we turn onto Carver Ln, she's pacing back and forth because she knows we're almost there. We walk in, they say hi to Ruby and she's already racing towards the play door. This is a heart-felt review and I feel like when I drop her off, sounds silly, but it's like dropping a toddler off at grandma's house. You know she'll be taken care of and you don't worry that she's getting into things.
