There are two dining areas and a fascinating little store that sells tea, jewelry, designer clothes and in the hallway, beauty products (I think). Note: It is quite dark. I felt really old because I needed my phone light to read the menu, but our much younger waiter also had trouble seeing to process our credit card lol. Service was kind and professional. Tuscan food is unusual for us and we don't eat many of the ingredients, so our selections were a bit limited. Happily, we both found dishes that we enjoyed. My husband had chicken breast, which came with a salad snd sweet potato puree. The salad dressing was so light and lemony. I want to come back just for that. My white fish was Mediterranean in style and cooked in a sauce of cherry tomato, artichokes, olives and capers. It was delicious, but enough for two or three meals, so I took some home. Our meals came with herbed crisp breads and herb butter. They have a nice selection of teas and I absolutely loved the white tea with flower petals and lychee. Overall, a great find.

I've always want to go because of its history and because I'd heard it is beautiful. It is beautiful. The history: San Ángel Inn is located in a former hacienda, built in 1616. From 1806-1900, the hacienda served as a country house for various owners, and it became a hotel in 1907 - that's why it's still called San Ángel Inn to this day. The structure was declared a "Colonial Monument" by the National Institute of Anthropology and History in 1937. After a brief stint as a university-affiliated building, it became a restaurant on June 13, 1963. So when you eat at San Ángel Inn, you're eating at restaurant with a storied and incredible history. The building is absolutely beautiful. We were seated at a table in the courtyard which, in December, was incredibly special: tons of nochebuenas/poinsettias, tons of holiday decor, live piano music, a fountain, and more. It's a beautiful restaurant, perfect for a special occasion meal (we saw lots of families having dinner together). It's a wonderful setting for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The menu is incredible - broad and varied with dishes from throughout Mexico. It was hard to choose what to order. We had some wine, which we enjoyed with the starters they brought (bread rolls and butter, veggies with a creamy dip). My husband started with the poblano pepper cream soup, which was to die for. I started with the Aztec Tortilla Soup, which is poured tableside and which you can customize with certain ingredients they ask you about during the tableside pour (I said yes to everything, including chicharrones). He had a small dish of shrimp with orange mole for his entree, while I ordered a traditional Mexican holiday dish they had on the menu for the Christmas season: romeritos with shrimp, nopales, and potatoes in a mole sauce. If you're looking for a traditional, beautiful, special meal in Mexico City, I highly recommend dinner at San Ángel Inn. It's a special place and a meal here is a great excuse to spend some time in the beautiful neighborhood of San Ángel.

This restaurant was just a short walk from my hotel in Roma Norte-along the walk I think I counted 4 or 5 Michelin rated restaurants on my path-they are everywhere in Mexico City. When we arrived at the restaurant they seated us right away and I noticed how great the atmosphere was in the restaurant-this was for sure a date night or celebratory type of place-I wouldn't say fancy or upscale but definitely a step up from my restaurants I went to so far in Mexico City. Upon sitting down we started with a couple of really pretty cocktails-. Strawberry Fields-A gin drink that is a refreshing twist on a Negroni-I enjoyed it very much and may have been the best cocktail I had in Mexico City.($185.00) Margarita De Perlas-a tequila drink with lime and orange infusion topped with pearls of tapioca-It was a great spin on a margarita with the added slightly sweet taste of tapioca pearls-decent drink.($220.00) For dinner we ordered a few items. Bowie Burger-a burger featuring a top sirloin and wagyu cross patty topped with Swiss cheese, roasted poblanos, bacon, guacamole and tortilla chips-This burger was so delicious-perfectly cooked and seasoned,so juicy-it was spicy but incredibly flavorful -loved it.($275.00) Curly Fries-Perfectly seasoned, super crunchy-very tasty ($85.00) Caesar Salad-well made salad with great tasting dressing and crunchy croutons.($130.00) This place is a very special restaurant in a city that is filled with special restaurants-I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Mexico City, specifically the Roma Norte neighborhood-a true joy.
