HUGE place with a fantastic outdoor area…read more Very nice craft beer - their imperial stout recently won gold medal at world championship! Unfortunately, because of demand, it, wasn't available at the restaurant when we visited. We got a 7 beer flight to try a variety and I then settled on a larger pour of my fav - Ambar. We weren't hungry for a meal but ordered two snacks plus bread from their snack menu. And holy hotwheels, they were huge portions. Our selections were 1) grilled, salted peppers and 2) pica-pau (the pork version). It was literally enough food for full meals for 4 people IMO! And what is pica-pau you ask (it translates to woodpecker)? Well, in my book, it's pica-WOW! Cubes of pork adorned with some carrots, cauliflower, olives and parsley swim in a totally amazing sauce that we sopped up with the bread. We asked our server about the sauce and understood it was butter, chicken broth, white wine, lemon, garlic. Service was a little scattered. I think our original server left at shift time so we then ended up with a couple others pinch hitting. The scattered service along with no soap in either men's or women's restrooms = automatic star deduction.

The burger itself was big, but not that great. The meat wasn't freshly prepared and bland in taste. That is the main reason for three stars. If you call yourself a burger bar, the burger should at least be good. I had the Imperador, apparently the most frequently ordered. The fries were good and the milkshake was okay too. It was too bad they did not have an English menu. I got help with ordering, but you would think that a beach town burger bar like this would have one. Service was good, the guys are friendly here. Besides the burger and the menu, it was a good experience

They did not have an English menu which was a shame. I saw four tables struggling to order with the Portuguese menu. Being in a tourist section, restaurants should be prepared with translated menus. Other than that burgers were good. The meat was not fresh, pre-frozen for sure. But it was decent. Fries were great and our pitcher of sangria was amazing. Definitely recommend coming here for some burgers.

Now why would I bother to review a McDonald's in a foreign country that offers far more satisfying…read moreculinary pleasures? It was because this one was identified as "the world's most beautiful McDonald's". Just by whom, I was not clear, but it certainly piqued Jamie W's and my interest. Luckily, it was on the route between the tourist-centric Ribeira riverfront and our hotel. In other words, it was unavoidable. Opened in 1995, the so-called Imperial McDonald's is located in a renovated space previously occupied by Cafe Imperial, a famous Art Deco-style coffee shop since the 1930s. For no practical reason, McDonald's retained most of the main architectural features when it took over the location. This included crystal chandeliers, stained glass windows, and a giant bronze eagle above the entrance. Despite the historical decor, the ordering process reflects the current touch-activated menu process (Photo 7). While there are some Portuguese-specific items and even Sagres beer, the rest is typical McDonald's with American-styled fast food like the Miami Burger. Since we were between meals, we ended up getting the 2,3€ McFlurry Oreo and the 1,9€ Caramel Sundae (Photo 10). Nothing special. FOOD - 3 stars...familiar American-style fast food despite the Portuguese touches AMBIANCE - 3 stars...not really that spectacular and quite crowded SERVICE - 2.5 stars...typical McDonald's TOTAL - 3 stars...go if you're curious RELATED - Exploring Porto? Truly one of the most beautiful McDonald's in the world…read more Imperial McDonald's has dramatic art deco flair, having been converted from Imperial Cafe back in 1995 in Porto's central Avenida dos Aliados. You can't miss the giant bronze eagle above the entrance or the ornate glass panes & chandelier above the main counter that harkens back to the past. The restaurant is spacious with kiosks leading to the counter and seating along both sides along with a lower level. This spot was obviously packed when we first visited in the mid-day for photos, but were pleasantly surprised by the quiet vibes at the morning opening hour. We ordered several of McDonald's terrific local breakfast sets. The set included either espresso or juice to go with chocolate pancake or ham & cheese toast. I can't say enough about how fresh the orange juice tastes in this sun-kissed region! Skip it or hit it? We only discovered its morning charm on our last day in Porto, but it's definitely worth an early visit.

What we ordered: I got the veggie melt with fries and a glass of red wine. It was good, but they use the term "melt" very loosely here. The bread was slightly toasted, but nothing about this sandwich was toasted. The quality was great for what we paid. My dad got the original steak burger with fries and a bottle of water. All of this for around 16€. Not bad! My dad was missing American food (this is his first time in Europe and he's not quite used to the food change) so this was a nice change of pace! There were definitely some language barriers, but the staff was friendly and we figured it all out. I would recommend this Steak 'n Shake if you're missing American food!

My wife and I were in a state of hunger + anger and Steak 'n Shake came to the rescue. We came in around midday and there wasn't much of a line so we decided to eat here. I also ordered a chocolate milkshake and that was solid. Service was quick and friendly and they accept credit card! This location has upstairs seating and some seating downstairs, but for some reason they had their doors and windows open on a rather hot day. It was close to 30 celsius with minimal cloud cover. I am not sure why they did that. This place is good for a pretty quick bite to eat and you can rest assured things here are clean and well made.
