A few months before BonChon and the other Korean chicken joints came to the Philippine shores,…read morethere was Chicken Charlie. The first time I tried it was in this branch in QC. There was a long line and a long wait just to get one box of the soy garlic chicken. With one bite, I understood why. The chicken is so crunchy, the whole deal seemed unreal. Close your eyes when biting and you wouldn't even know it's actually chicken. That is until you cut into the juicy, flavorful meat. The first experience was simply unforgettable. To this day, I get really bad cravings for their chicken every time I remember how good that first bite was. I love how creative they've become with the menu. There's the usual chicken portions -- they have value meals with one-piece, two-piece or chops, they have a chicken basket with 3, 6 or 12 pieces, they have it in a burger bun, they have it in a bowl with rice, they have it on top of greens, you can even get your chicken with noodles.

I'm pretty sure Chicken Charlie was here way before the whole Bon Chon craze. I remember being…read moretreated here by my aunt during the first week that I just got back from the U.S., and I told her that I wanted to try something new (of course by then, I've had a good dose of Jollibee). Their chicken wings are double-cooked, and served as either soy garlic or spicy. They serve various meal items for chicken wings at a cheap price (at least cheaper than the competition), and somehow I like their version just a bit better. I always go for the spicy option, and I wasn't disappointed at all. It's hot enough to want an extra serving of rice, but not anywhere near tongue-burning sensation. If given the choice to choose between the two, I think Chicken Charlie offers a better flavor and price range than its competition. Also, they have Dynamite Jalapeños - hands-down winner for me!

The dim sum cart came around quick, and we loaded up on hakaw, siu mai, char siu bao, and those amazing crispy taro puffs--everything was hot, fresh, and tasted just like the old-school spots back home. The spare ribs were tender and saucy, not overly sweet, and the yang chow fried rice had that perfect wok hei. Service was friendly even though it was packed; our server made sure we had hot tea refills without us asking. Super affordable too--we fed six of us and still had leftovers for under 2k. Total comfort food win. Definitely heading back next time we're in the area. Five stars all the way!

I can summarily declare that all the items we ordered were below our culinary standards in the following order from worst to not so bad. HK style fried noodles, the sauce was peanuty tasting poured over noodles. Horrible looking. The congee is not very appealing to the eyes and the palate. The duck was bony. The congee itself was barely hot. Siomai was no good either. The roasted duck with rice again lacking presentation appeal. The tofu skin roll is ok thus the 2 star. The waiter was very green. Served our sodas without glasses. Avoid and don't believe the hype.

There are just too many memories in my life that I can credit to eating in Jollibee - from the 2-piece Chickenjoy merienda treat from my mom because I got first honors in grade school, to the reunion date with my cousins since we were super hungry and couldn't decide where to eat. Whenever I have business partners from abroad that come visit Manila, Jollibee is the first restaurant that I tell them to eat at, regardless of their social standing or their position in the company. The Chickenjoy taste is unforgettable and satisfying, yet strangely appetizing all at the same time. Whether sharing dessert or saving for a later date, the 3-piece Peach Mango Pies-to-Go has no match in sweetness and crunch. Although Jollibee has already expanded and branched out internationally, nothing really beats the original taste of the restaurants here in the Philippines.

The burger patties were good, no doubt, and the caramelized onions were cooked perfectly. The problem with the burgers here is the sauce, which tastes simply awful! Luckily, The Burger Project meets all of these qualifications to be a Maginhawa standard. The restaurant is cozy, with seating both inside and outside. You can seat larger parties here but be prepared to be brushing elbows. It helps the place feel more homey. The menu of available toppings and pre made combinations alongside sides and drinks are written artfully in chalk above the cash register and condiments bar. They have this cool template where you can literally build your own burger, customizing everything from the bun to the cheese to sauces, condiments and everything in between! Be warned though, every upgrade comes at a price and it can add up quickly. The standard patty is a very generous serving, and familiar to most Filipino palates, it's a bit on the saltier side. I do, however, appreciate its flavor and juiciness so I don't really think it's a deal breaker. Some standout add-ons to the burgers here include an egg, adobo aioli, a grilled pineapple slice, and garlic cream cheese among more standard and out there choices. I love their fries too! Definitely good for sharing for the size. I recommend the sweet potato fries (₱70), The Animal Style Fries (a nod to In-N-Out's famous fries of the same name), and the garlic aioli fries. They're great, especially the sweet potato fries because they walk a really nice line between kamote fries you'd buy on the street and the sweet potato fries you'd see at more American places.
