I thought that meant that they would actually handle it, but instead, literally got people off the street to carry my mom to her final resting place. Had I known that they couldn't do it (as they said they are a very small company), I would have selected the people myself! Then, they allowed the picture that I took to be freely copied from their website without my permission. When I confronted them, all they would say is we are sorry, we are small....no offer for any kind of refund or anything. And, they required payment before the service would happen, without any discussion of how payment would work. DO NOT USE BURNS, if you want a caring service for your loved ones!

Super callous, asked my mother if she was aware that there was great beer at the store by our house while she rocked back and forth and sobbed. I totally understand maintaining a tougher exterior in this business, but I show more empathy to my grade school students when their fish dies. I called Herring-Groseclose and the person I spoke with was very nice and gave me a price lower than the others, so I decided I'd use them. When my sister finally died just two months after my initial call I called them again to arrange the creamation. This time they quoted a price much higher than what was initially quoted. When I mentioned this they said the person who quoted that was wrong. I asked to talk to that person and they said he was not available. I asked if they could ask him to call me back and they said yes, but no one ever called me back. After I complained, they took a couple hundred off the new price, but it was still 100's of dollars more than what I was initially quoted. As I was in a hurry I went with them anyway, and now 3.5 months later I still have not recieved the death certificates and today was my third call to ask for them and I was told someone will call me back-we'll see.

My mother just had her service at this funeral home. How disappointing and a disgrace to her memory…read morethe funeral service was for someone who has been a part of the community for 50 years. First, the day of the viewing, the funeral director called an hour before the viewing started to say her hair and makeup was not done. The 2 daughters had to scramble and do the hair and makeup by themselves as attendees were walking in. Second, the day of the service the unprofessional funeral director came out at the start of the service to announce to all attendees the pastor (who he recommended) was a no-show. The funeral director asked another pastor who was just attending to officiate the service without consulting with the family. That pastor was not prepared nor knew anything about my mom and spoke about my mom's husband. Then there was the graveside service, lasted a whole 30 seconds after just 1 prayer. The funeral director told everyone 'if you want, you can add sand or a boutanier' and announced we were done. Everyone drove 20 minutes to get to the graveside and expected an appropriate and honorable graveside service for my mom. This whole experience with this funeral home and director was an embarrassment to the family and was a disgrace.
