    The cracked bucket
    Cassandra R.

I have stayed at all of the Ohio State Lodges. I have enjoyed them ALL until coming upon this one. This was the worst and an embarrassment to our state. First, upon arrival our DELUXE cabin was dirty. We needed to clean it to use it. The bucket we were provided was cracked except for 2 inches at the bottom and the mop should have been thrown away years ago. The screened in porch was so full of dirt that we needed to sweep it prior to mopping. We ended up with over a dustpan of dirt. The top of the fridge had not been cleaned for a long time. The full size bed at the head went to the floor. It ended up it was missing a support board. To get out of the bed the person had to climb at the end or over the other person. We requested towels, as we were only provided with 2 sets for 6 people, and 24 hours later we drove to the lodge to get them. The linens were a fitted sheet on the bed and another fitted sheet to cover with. There were NO blankets provided. We were provided with a thin comforter. We were provided with no tissues and needed to use TP as tissues. The indoor pool was closed. Upon check in we were told the beach was down the path next to the lodge. There was no beach down the path by the lodge, it was a boat dock. The pictures on the website should be updated. If you look at the pictures there is a nice mini golf and tennis court. However, when you are there the pristine mini golf is overrun with weeds as high as your hip. The tennis court has last falls leaves on it and garbage. For example, there was a Gatorade bottle left on the court so long that the top bright orange cap had turned a light orange almost white color. We were offered a refund of 1 night from the manager. UPDATE: Upon speaking to the GM we were refunded a second night and they are updating the cabins.

Closest: veggie burger with chips Further: buckeye burger with fries

My boyfriend and decided we needed an escape from the city life...so we ventured here. The lodge is set back in the park so it's a little drive to get to. The lodge is a little older and kinda needs remodeling. There is a restaurant/bar in the lodge. There is an indoor pool but no hot tub. The rooms are simple, but bring your own pillow (theirs are flat) and bring a blanket (if freeze baby like me) the sheets are thin. We ate dinner in the lodge and the service was friendly but slow. We ordered a dozen wings (half BBQ and half buffalo). The wings were really good but they listed them as "jumbo" and they were on the small size. For main course he ordered the buckeye burger with fries. He said it was okay nothing special (he eats a lot of burgers). I ordered the veggie burger with their homemade chips. I thought that the burger was good but nothing I would do a kart wheel to go back for. I also ordered a hot chocolate and that was fantastic. It's a nice get away here to bring the family.

We stopped in the restaurant for dinner. Food is pricy for the quality... $50 for two, including desert. The veg (no choice offered) was obviously canned, surprising at the height of farmers market season when good local produce should be available (and used). Service was good but spoiled by the quality of the food. For those who plan on hiking the many local trails box lunches (sandwich, apple, cookie, soda/water?) are available for $11.

Welcome brochure: "Our entire staff is dedicated to one purpose, and that is making your stay as relaxing and refreshing as possible. We want to exceed, not just meet, your expectations." Reality: Maintenance was banging around in the storage room next to our room, at midnight. It stopped after 15 minutes so I didn't complain, but when it occurred again on the second night I called the front desk. I asked that she have them stop moving furniture into the storage room, since it was 1220 in the morning and I needed to get some rest. Her response was "I'll mention it to them." No apology was offered, and certainly no meeting or exceeding expectations philosophy was in evidence! It went on for another 15 minutes, and I was about to go out and have the front desk wake up THEIR manager, but it stopped. I don't recommend this establishment, but if you DO go, stay away from room 219!

The place could use a few upgrades, but wow the staff are so nice and helpful, especially in the restaurant.

Vegetarian options were not plentiful at all. The others enjoyed their meals, but I was stuck with the side salad and potato

One minute you're driving along backroads in Ohio and then BAM, you're starting at a medieval castle. Ravenwood Castle is well known for its focus on games of all kinds - board games, social deduction games, scavenger hunts - you name it, they have it. My mom and I came for a special weekend where they were hosting a murder mystery. Put on by a separate company, but hosted within Ravenwood Castle, our murder mystery experience started on Friday night and ran through Sunday morning. We worked in teams to solve the mystery and along the way participated in goofy and quirky games and puzzles to help us score points. When you stay, you can eat on site, or you can book a cabin and bring & prepare food in a small kitchenette. Alternatively, there are a few places you can order from / go out to in the surrounding areas, but nothing is particularly close by because the castle is in a remote area. While I found the food to be mediocre, the beer and whiskey selection is great, and a surprise stand out was their version of butterbeer, which is dangerously chuggable. If you're someone who loves board games and wants a weekend away to connect with friends or family, this is a great place to go!

There is a plethora to choose from as soon as you check in or when you're dining in the pub or premade scavenger hunts to do while walking around the property during your stay. My husband and I aren't board game enthusiasts but we did have a great time at the castle. After checking in we made our way to the King Arthur Suite, a short walk from the check-in desk and through the dining hall. The door to the King Arthur Suite is quite literally in the middle of the dining hall which we personally felt was kind of awkward because it is a prime gathering space for most of the guests. The two story suite was spacious, painted in a funky green and featured a giant jacuzzi tub which was the highlight of the room. A comfortable four poster bed on the second story made us feel like royalty and is close to the door that leads to a porch over looking the grounds behind the castle. My husband made a fire in the large fire pit outside of the castle that is closer to the cabins. The area was stocked with wood and we spent the majority of our evening enjoying a warm fire on the cool fall night. The pub downstairs serves beer and basic bar fare. It wasn't very busy when we stopped by but service was wonderful and we felt very welcome. Another couple proposed the four of us play a game together and we reluctantly obliged. Our patient competitors taught us how to play "Ticket To Ride" and it was a blast. So, in the end, Ravenwood Castle (and our new friends) did turn us into game people.

They in the midst of a renovation, but around a bit of dust here, anda paint splash there, it was still clean (much cleaner than a previous place in Wilmington). The staffer that checked us in was pleasant and efficient. Our beds were comfortable, lots of pillows. We had a little problem with the shower the first night (operator error, or rather we didn't know the trick for a janky tub/shower valve). We called and they sent someone within about 5 minutes. [It was one of the maids that had experience with our room, a sweet soul, very pleasant...I do have to ask though, how many tattoos are too many tattoos]. The breakfast was pretty well put out, two hot protiens each day, eggs, potato options, oatmeal, cereal, pancake machine, etc. Even the most finicky kid would not walk away hungry unless they wanted to, for whatever reason it is that finicky kids do things. The hot tub worked, good temperature, pool was nice, neither had too much chlorine. While you didn't have to walk through the lobby (like some hotels- why designers, why?) there was a giant window from the front lobby/breakfast area to the pool area. My wife was a bit off put by that. I guess you would feel a bit like a fish in the aquarium if someone was there looking in. Definiteley a good stay, nothing is cheap anymore, so $346 for two nights in a non capitol city in Ohio might feel steep, but hey that's what the market will bear, so all good that's good. We would come back if in the area.

My family and I booked the room specifically so our children could enjoy the pool over the weekend. We are local, so the pool was the only reason for our stay. When we arrived, the front desk staff completed the check-in process and only afterward informed us that the pool was closed. Had we been told this before checking in, we would not have proceeded with the reservation at all. Because the pool was unavailable, we stayed in the room for less than an hour while trying to resolve the issue. The front desk told us they could not cancel since the booking was through Expedia, so we contacted Expedia directly. Expedia reached out to the hotel, but the hotel declined to issue a refund even though we did not stay and primary amenity we booked for was unavailable. Charging nearly $300 for a stay we could not use is unfair, especially when the lack of disclosure prevented us from making an informed decision. We would have never checked in had we been told the pool was closed. I have stay at this hotel many of times and have never had issue this time however was different. The pool was the reason i left however, i was upset already because when we arrived she said there was a 250 deposit which I have never had to pay all the other time we stayed and she was going to cancel then and I said no ill figure it out however if she would have informed me the pool was close before checking us in I would have let her canceled.
