First time here in Rome and most of our meals were structured by our tour. But on our last night…read morehere we had some free time and our tour guide recommended this place. My wife and I were not too hungry, having enjoyed a big lunch elsewhere.
So we skipped the appetizers, salad, and dessert. The pizza menu is extensive, so it might take awhile to decide. No pressure though. I ordered a pizza
Nisida (Tomato, mozzarella, sausage and peppers) but I got served Pozzuoli (Tomato, mozzarella and sausage) OK, close enough. My wife ordered Spaghettino alle Vongole (Clams, tomato and garlic) € 13.
For beverages, my wife tried to order a mixed drink but they didn't have a bartender on duty, so we both settled on a glass of Chianti.
The pasta came out first and my pizza a couple minutes later. The pasta had several small clams and my wife enjoyed it. The pasta was not home made but was just fine.
The pizza is basically personal size and sufficient to satisfy. It was thin crust, had fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil. It was somewhat watery, but aside from the sausage crumbles was very tasty. It came uncut which posed a minor challenge having to cut it with only a butter knife provided, but it worked out. Where I come from (grew up in NYC) there is only one acceptable way to eat pizza, and that is to pick it up. To use a knife and fork is unacceptable. Anyway, once cut I was able to pick up the slices and eat it properly.
The staff was friendly, spoke English well, and service was prompt. But here's an important tip! I read another review about this place complaining that they were ignored to the point they left in disgust.
Thanks to our tour guide clueing us in, we learned that the waiter will not come to take your order unless you hit a switch to turn on a little red light to alert them. They do this not to rush you. The switch hangs from the pendant light, and the red light is just above it.
Ditto for requesting the check because Italians often are in no hurry and like to linger and talk after eating.
All in all, we enjoyed it and would probably go back (but we would probably like to try other places first).
