We just had a few hours in Rome, and after a wonderful golf cart tour, I knew the one thing I wanted to do was try a porchetta sandwich before we left. We used yelp to find this place and hoofed it over in almost 100F weather. It's interesting, there are actually two Cantinas DEI Papi a couple of doors down from another . One was bustling and super busy and packed, the other empty. They claim they're the same place, I'm not sure why one was so much more popular. I ordered my porchetta, and it was yummy, but I think the walk in the heat made me not really able to eat much. Both shops are small and a little cramped, but clean and well kept.

What a gem! We stopped by for a little lunch on our busy day. We went for the board and oh my it was so delicious. They really made an diverse spread for us. Service was so quick! The space is small, but we got lucky and didn't have to wait!

I say this with complete honesty, the two sandwiches I had from here are probably the best I've had in my LIFE!!! This place is the epitome of a small Italian hole in the wall that is serving world class food. If you eat pork, then do yourself a favor and get a sandwich that has the porchetta on it, if the sandwich you want doesn't have porchetta then add it! Occasionally you eat foods that you later have daydreams about, their sandwiches reach that rarified air of greatness. If I ever go back to Rome again, the first thing I'm doing is getting a sandwich from here.

Came by for lunch on the way from Colosseum to Trevi Fountain. Nice and quiet, we were one of few people dining. We tried charcuterie boards - medium and small sizes. They come with a variety of meat, cheese, fruit and toasts with spreads. They had a good variety of tasty things and pretty to look at too. I had a glass of white wine. We also took a couple of sandwiches to go, including a porchetta and pork jowel (great porchetta, jowel was a bit much for a whole sandwich). They have multiple locations throughout Rome, so it is easy to find one nearby. Food is all very affordable.

Excellent. Not exactly like all the super authentic spots we experienced, the ones that maybe were not tourist spots. But, absolutely amazing! The space was clean, unique and inviting. The servers were spectacular. Much wine knowledge and able to explain dishes I was interested in eating before I left Rome. We ordered wine for ourselves from their extensive wine selection. We then had their amazing focaccia--yummmm!!! I went ahead and got the Carbonara and my partner got yet another meat board ;). (Seems this is all Italy has to offer for him). The food was simply delightful. The atmosphere was enchanting. I even forced myself to have a second glass of wine. #whynot We loved this place, the food, the people. Highly suggest. #wheninrome

Hard to beat such a good lunch near the Trevi fountain. We got a medium sized board of meat/cheese and we walked away very happy/satisfied. The meats were all fresh tasting, and the cheese was fantastic. I have to say the presentation was a nice touch to add on to how tasty the food was. This food would of cost double in the United States if you could even find it laid out like this in the first place. The employees were also very nice/helpful to us foreigners! Highly recommend coming in for a lunch or dinner if you want to try a bunch of different meats/cheeses for a cheap meal.

    Crunchy juicy porchetta.

Best porchetta I tried so far! I tried different porchetta places but this is the one that made my taste buds smile.

Charcuterie board of the day with a glass of their house wine

The reviews don't lie!! This place is truly phenomenal, so much so that we went 2 nights in a row on our trip! The restaurant is a small family owned shop in a nice street with ice cream stores, cafes, and other restaurants. There's no "official" menu, but some papers on the wall can help you make your food decision. We ordered a charcuterie board for 2 (mind you the boards change by day depending on what ingredients are available so keep that in mind). The board had a variety of breads, spreads, cheeses, and meats. The portion size was more than enough for 2 people. We also ordered a bottle of their house wine which was delicious and cheap (around 10-12 euros). Overall, the place has a great atmosphere, delicious food, and incredible prices! We will definitely be back :)

Meant to mention the prices are so affordable which makes this spot a hit! Was looking for a sandwich place and saw this place. It's tucked away so it's easy to miss. I was sceptical at first but the food was delicious, nothing fancy but really flavorful. The#27 was warmed up so the bread was soft which made it taste even better. Salad and the other sandwich without the bread was so good.

What can I say? This place was an amazing hidden gym. The reviews were spot on the food was amazing fresh we wanted some thing that was not just pasta or pizza. We got a charcuterie board and it was absolutely delicious.

I enjoyed my sandwich very much. A nice spot to visit if you're craving something smalls or just want to split something with someone. I like a simple sandwich, so I ordered one with cheese, apples and prosciutto.

My husband and I agree that this was the best sandwich we have ever had. I will truly be dreaming about this delicious sandwich when I am back in the states and at work. We had just finished a long tour of The Roman Forum and The Colosseum and we're absolutely famished. This restaurant is off a side street and could easily be overlooked so make sure to add this to your itinerary. We both had a veggie sandwich. The bread was soft and airy. We added fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes soaked in olive oil and basil, sautéed onions, artichokes, sun dried tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, arugula and the best part was the zucchini which truly tasted like a pickle. The flavors of the vegetables were so rich that no extra condiments were needed. In the states, you often see people adding Mayo or mustard, but this sandwich has so much flavor that no condiments are needed. The lady who made our sandwich was nice and very hospitable. There are several tables available inside to sit at while you eat. I enjoyed sitting inside and looking around at the old pictures on the walls. I cannot recommend this place enough!! Truly the best sandwich I've ever had!

The "medium" charcuterie board option with the selection of meats and cheese from the staff.
    Sunie Q.

The reason for my 4 star review is simply because we had a charcuterie board and I consider that finger food. It was a great start to our meal that evening and I absolutely loved the cheeses along with the meats that were displayed and put out for our enjoyment. The service was fast and friendly. The seating is limited since they only have a couple of tables and chairs indoors while the others are outside. It's definitely worth a stop in center of Rome while you're sightseeing. Didn't get to try out their wine selections but hope to come back in the near future to try those out.

A jazz club for American tourists…read more Okay, there was one Australian lady and a few Chinese. Everyone else was American. Prices are sky-high because this is a soak the tourist situation. Alexanderplatz which is the premiere jazz club in Rome charges $18 euros for a month membership - no cover after that - and $12 per drink. So once you have paid your monthly cover charge, you can hear all the jazz you want for free - or if need be for $12 euros a drink At Alexanderplatz, the performances are legendary with some of the most innovative and technically amazing musicians in Rome. We dropped over $150 euros at Gregory's. We got a perfectly reasonable yeoman guitarist. But nothing like the artistic lions that routinely perform over at Alexanderplatz. Now to be fair, we had dinner at Gregory's and we never eat at Alexanderplatz. The standard "sushi dinner" was perfectly reasonable yeoman sushi. There was so little of it that we both had to order a la carte dishes afterwards. The extra extras seriously expanded the final tab. * * * One argument in Gregory's favor: their bar is extraordinary. The bar at Alexanderplatz is mediocre. Gregory's charges top dollar for its bar offerings, but what they mix and what is in their bottles is worth every single euro they ask for. I would be perfectly happy to just go to the bar, and order a few premium beverages. I would hear my wallet cry. But I would know that I was drinking supremely well in return for my investment. Fortunately, the bar is downstairs from the club. I would not have to put up with the shenanigans in the club. * * * The problem with the club is the crowd. At most, one third of the customers are actually there to listen to jazz. The room is filled with tourists taking selfies. There are also hot-daters playing snuggle-buns. Many of them will leave mid-set so they can go back to the hotel. Gregory's is less about the music and more about selling happy memories of Rome. * * * Alexanderplatz gets a mostly Italian crowd. You are looking as musicians, music critics, academics, and all purpose artsy types - as well as normal Italian human beings who just want to hear fine music. The music is taken very very seriously. Yeah, there are usually two or three tables with good time Charlies who are doing the phone recording, party hearty thing. But this is 8% of the audience at Alexanderplatz as opposed to 70% of the audience at Gregory's. To be fair to the crowd at Gregory's, the music at Alexanderplatz is simply better. The jazz at Alexanderplatz is capable of transfixing even philistines with tin ears. Gregory's jazz doesn't put that much on the table. But the crowd at Alexanderplatz sets me up for listening to mystic, complex music with the highest level of attention and aesthetic receptiveness. The crowd at Gregory's just gets me irritated. * * * If you are in Rome with a hot date, go to Gregory's. Be prepared to shell out the bucks. * * * If you are in Rome with someone who can truly appreciate once-in-a-lifetime musical experiences, take them to Alexanderplatz. After you talk about the music for half an hour after the concert, You can still go back to the hotel. Just figure that the hotel will be the second best part of the night.

My colleague went with a (what he said) excellent glass of the Zenato Amarone red wine, the server also agreed that it was one of their best. I prefer white and am partial to the island of my boyfriend, Sardegna, so went with the Su'entu Vermentino, and it was exquisite. Throughout our respective two glasses there the staff kept bringing by small bites/crostini to try--they were all wonderful and so tasty--we both especially love the simple fresh tomato. The issue I had was that I was in a super heavy tourist area and all of the restaurants we were walking past had people outside trying to lure us in. I wanted to avoid places like that, however via Yelp I discovered Il Chianti a short walk away. While still I assumed still touristy, the reviews were great and as we approached they weren't trying to lure us in, so we decided to try them out. I take this place is very popular since I noticed a sign instructing diners for form a line as we walked up to the restaurant. However, there was no line to be found and we were seated right away. Curb appeal is lovely, they have a decently-sized outdoor seating area though we opted to sit inside. The interior is a good size and compartmentalized into different rooms. The aesthetics are mostly classic with medium to dark wood tones. The menu contained some Tuscan dishes but also several that were more common outside of the region. We decided to start with two of their apps - a cheese plate and bread with fatty prosciutto, pistachio, and honey. The cheese plate was great, I love cheese and this one delivered - there was a good variety and the plate was paired with a few complements. The bread was great - the combination of the fatty prosciutto with the honey and nuts made for a great experience. There was a small salad in the center of the dish which was a welcome reprieve from the heaviness of the app. For my main I decided to get pasta - the paccheri with tomato sauce and burrata was speaking to me. The dish was great - pasta was cooked well and all of the components were super fresh. I've tried burrata in may settings but rarely in a pasta dish - it worked well and now I'll be seeking it out more often. Service was good - everyone was very friendly and there was a good pace to the rate our dishes came out. Overall, we had a great experience at Il Chianti - in a sea of touristy spots by the Trevi, this stands out as a noteworthy option for a good meal.
